Avatar f tn IR or insulin resistance is a sign of type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. I am assuming you are referring to either the A1C or fasting blood glucose levels. The first thing of course is a change in life style. This does not mean you have to stop eating everything but to be more judicious in your eating habits. In addition, regular exercise is paramount in reducing those :numbers". Talk this over with your physician and get started on these changes.
Avatar n tn On the report it did not show outside the normal but she said the usually accepted cut off for insulin resistance was lower than my level. I was placed on 500mg metformin, told to cut out process/refined sugar, carbs, and be re-tested. This process has continued and now I am on 2000 mg of metformin and my levels are actually higher. I have not been perfect with the diet but certainly much better than before.
1033523 tn?1258035082 Normally there are no antibodies to insulin. If you have IgG and IgM antibodies against insulin, your body reacts as if the insulin is foreign. This may make insulin less effective, or neutralize it. Normal values are 5-20 mcU/mL while fasting; values may differ per laboratory. Check your lab results paperwork for the exact ranges. As far as daily testing, it's to early to tell until the doctor exams your test results. Good luck and let us know everything goes.
1287446 tn?1313947638 I’ve done a lot of research online and when I read about insulin resistance, it seems to pinpoint nearly everything I’m experiencing. I’m not overweight, and I think that doctors tend to think you have to be overweight to have an issue (at least my current doctor does). I’m paranoid about becoming overweight and have always monitored calories, macronutrients, etc.
Avatar f tn If you are type 2, insulin resistance is considered key part of the problem (though insulin resistance can also happening in Type 1). To address insulin resistance you can:- 1. Lose excess weight if you are overweight 2. Adopt a low carb or even a ketogenic diet (be sure to get enough protein and don't overdo the fats) 3. Regular vigorous physical exercise 4. Insulin sensitizing drug such as metformin.
Avatar f tn Obesity is associated with insulin resistance....and insulin resistance causes a compensatory hyperinsulinemia.....and high insulin levels affect the response to Peginterferon in the first 24 hours. It lowers RVR and SVR. Since the response to interferon is affected within the first 24 hours, that means you have to get rid of the insulin resistance BEFORE starting treatment. Avatar f tn From all my research, it looks like inflammatory cytokines due to insulin resistance caused my thyroid cellular resistance. My cellular thyroid resistance symptoms have improved since reversing insulin resistance and reducing visceral fat (still have a way to go getting rid of all that stubborn internal fat!).
Avatar n tn Is there a test that can be done to determine whether or not you are insulin resistant? Can you have insulin resistance alone, and not have PCOS or diabetes or anything else? What does Metformin do (is it to combat insulin resistance)? Once on Metformin, can you eventually stop taking it once your hormones and weight and everything are under control, or will your body go back to being out of whack? I didn't really get the opporunity to ask my Dr.
Avatar m tn In studying the insulin resistance of 29 people with Hepatitis C, Australian researchers have confirmed that they have high insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes. However, almost all insulin resistance was in muscle, with little or none in the liver, a very surprising finding given that Hepatitis C is a liver disease. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps the body use glucose for energy. The two most important organs that respond to insulin are the liver and muscle.
Avatar n tn Wow, that is a very technical question. I'm just a parent, not a medical professional, but I'll take a stab at it. (Sorry, bad needle pun). Most of us will only know what insulin does with muscle tissue, not fat tissue. I've found studies that talk about how high triglycerides can cuase insulin resistance, but not that insulin helps create them.
Avatar m tn Although insulin levels were never extraordinarily high, the increase between the 2nd and 3rd hours seems to be abnormal and indicative of delayed insulin response, a pattern associated with insulin resistance. Several years ago I had elevated cortisol throughout the day. Last year, is was below range for most of the day. It seems to have flip flopped, while DHEA has stayed consistently borderline high (but still in range) and testosterone is elevated.
Avatar n tn Anyone (not just PCOS sufferers) with a large waistline is at risk for developing insulin resistance. This is why Type II Diabetes has become more common. Other factors contributing to insulin resistance are what we've always been warned of: sedentary lifestyle, high fat diet, lack of exercise, etc.
Avatar m tn Hi there, Since 5 Years im having high triglycerides and cholestol. Some time it is getting with in the limit by medication or diet or herbal medicines.arround 4 years ive been diagnozed with fatty liver and Initially SGPT has gone up to 160 after getting the cholestrol control tablet(lopid)it has come down up to 80 and again come down to 32 by the help of udiliver (URSOCOL300 mg)tablet and syllimarin.
568322 tn?1370165440 Dr D tested me for insulin resistance. He felt, going back 3 years ago, that insulin resistance hindered the effectiveness of SOC. Does anyone know what the incidence of insulin resistance was in this study? Did people with no insulin resistance experience any benefit?
Avatar f tn t lose weight with hyperthyroidism due to insulin resistance (high insulin means the body is in fat storing mode). I already had severe insulin resistance due to eating a high % of refined sugar in my diet (I do not overeat due to a poor appetite) but hyperthyroidism worsened my insulin resistance further and I also developed pre diabetes due to hyperthyroidism as well.
Avatar f tn Hi ChrityJo: The link desrt gave you is to my journal (thank you desrt). The page I called, "What you need to know about insulin resistance to increase SVR" has an explanation about insulin resistance and its association to HCV and SVR (let me know if you have any questions). The second page is a list of links to studies about insulin resistance.
Avatar m tn You need further information / evaluation. IF it is high insulin becuase you have insulin resistance then it can be treated with diet, exercise and a drug such as metformin. If it is high for other reasons, then it would need to be handled medically. I would expect that it would more likely be becuase of insulin resistance. Are you normal weight? Do you have any history of diabetes? How old are you?
Avatar n tn Metabolic syndrome is also known as syndrome X or insulin-resistance syndrome; the majority of patients with PCOS have insulin resistance and/or are obese; insulin resistance is a listed side effect of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).
