Common Questions and Answers about Olanzapine in elderly

zyprexa

Avatar f tn I asked her if olanzapine can be stored in the fat cell or anything as I gained 35 kg from olanzapine and when I lost 10kg fairly fast I wonder if there was conection. I have read that some med's can be stored with in body's fat cells and when the body finally bracks the fat cells down again the drugs are reintroduced in the body again. She said she does not beleaive that olanzapine is one of the drugs that do that. I did not feel very confidant at all with that answer.
Avatar f tn I am about to switch from olanzapine to seroquel. Is it ok to just stop taking olanzapine and start taking seroquel? I am on a very low dose of olanzapine.
Avatar f tn While I have not taken it, I know that a good deal of the antipsychotics out there, including olanzapine, can cause sedation. Antipsychotics can also be activating where they will cause insomnia if you take them before falling asleep. I'm sure there are people here who have taken it and experienced sedation.
Avatar m tn I was given 4 types of drugs YEARS AGO in 2007 Olanzapine,Risperidone,Depixol,Trihexyphenidyl, i suspect it is the Olanzapine that has caused an internal burning gastric sensation below my navel area and around crotch area and wondered if you know of any drug, vitamins, herbs to reverse the damage caused and if you know what the problem could be?
6452367 tn?1430944592 I have not seen any studies that show olanzapine to be helpful in withdrawals. I would guess that it might help a few of the symptoms, but it would not be my first choice because of the side effects it presents. I will give you some alternative options. I have dealt with hundreds of addicts who have all told me horror stories of doing it by themselves. I would only guess that if are successful in doing it at home you don't end up in my clinic.
Avatar n tn Both drugs cause similar side effects, but Olanzapine shows fewer motor function side effects than Resperidone in comaparative clinical trials. Both drugs have found to be equally safe on clinical trials. Both cause weight gain, but weight gain with Resperidone is lesser than that with Olanzapine. So once you start treatment, your doctor may adjust your prescription to a higher dose if the starting dose is not effective.
Avatar f tn They took me to psychiatrist that put me on olanzapine 10mg and kept me in the hospital for 10 days. Traumatic experience. Than after 2-3 months the doctor put me on 7mg, and now I'm on 5 mg olanzapine. It was harder to cope with rest of the world the first few mounts. I didn''t want to do the things I wanted, It was hard to cope with my previous social life, I felt like I have nothing to talk to my friends, like my brain is empty, like I'm brain washed.
603015 tn?1329862973 I had the same reaction coming off olanzapine (Zyprexa) Unfortunately, in my own experience at least, the only thing that worked was just waiting it out. Olanzapine seems to be one of those drugs that has just as many side effects coming off it as going on.
Avatar m tn Many medications used to treat mental illness cause weight gain in many users. Different meds have different effects, so while one might result in weight gain, others won't. It's trial and error. When the only drug that works causes a lot of weight gain, that's a big problem.
Avatar f tn 5mg and Buproprion XL 300mg... After a couple months and not much change my doctor adds in Olanzapine 5mg, problem is I've been doing a bit of research online and am now too nervous to take the Olanzapine(Zyprexa) with the Clonazepam(Klonopin). Every thing I've seen has basically said that these two can interact very badly causing shallow breathing, loss of consciousness, etc. It would be much appreciated if I could get some feedback from anyone who has taken the two together.
Avatar f tn I have been on olanzapine for 15 years and has helped me greatly with anxiety, and other mental health conditions. I am 35 years old and have over the past 7 weeks experienced extreme pain in my feet and ankles. I had also over the past 6 months experienced tingling in the feet and legs which I believe is a side effect of long term use off olanzapine. I have been very concerned over the servere pain in my feet as it is all over the foot and can be painful to walk on.
Avatar m tn Yet in spite of the increasing evidence of the dangers of these anti-psychotic drugs such as Risperdal, Thorazine, and Stelazine (as well as other derivatives like risperidone, quetiapine, and olanzapine), they racked up a staggering $14.5 billion in international sales in 2007. These are three of the top 10 best-selling drugs on the planet.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was on Olanzapine until recently, and that made me gain about forty pounds in a year. That was bad. Now, on Lamictal (still on Olanzapine as well as a buffer while I break into Lamictal), I have found that my appetite has decreased significantly. I was able to lose some weight, and hopefully will lose some more over the next few months with a healthy diet and the right exercise. I don't think its anything abnormal, but if you are concerned, please talk to your doctor about it.
Avatar m tn Last night I took my first olanzapine pill(5mg), for panic attacks and apparently I did some weird things in my sleep. My girlfriend said my legs were twitching, and sounded like I was choking when I was snoring. It only happened last night, and not this morning when I was sleeping. I feel normal today, just a little dizzy(I slept 15 hours). Is this normal?? Thanks Also, I can't stop sleeping!
Avatar m tn Hi there So I'm not officially bipolar but I've had to deal with highs and lows for a long time, with antidepressants either not working or sending me walking with angels and talking to trees....After this I took olanzapine 5mg. I think it worked on the mood but it's hard to tell because they made me so unbelievably anxious, whilst sedating me so that I felt I couldn't participate in conversations because my thinking was so slowed.
Avatar n tn I do not know of any good docs in the city I am in and I am not in touch with my earlier doc. I just need advice here. Will this medicine keep making me put on weight on and on or is there any way I can curb this with diet and exercise. I have tried other drugs but I find this the best, except for the weight gain. What is the long term effect of this? Also I take Desval along with Olanzapine 0.5 mg. Is this alright for my Bipolar disorder or should I add in an antidepressant.
Avatar m tn Hi I tried olanzapine zyprexa. I gained 105 lbs in about 8 months and then i had to loose it. I was purely O before and then i started major contamination fears. I got off it after 6 years. I was sooo sick with the contamination fears and now i am not. I would not take it it is not approved for OCD i heard only schizophrenia. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn For 21yrs I've had severe diarrhea, sporadic moments of having a "normal" bowel movement. With that I've also had pain, started in the lower abdomen left side, cramps, air bubbling through, but also started in my joints, muscles, pretty much everywhere now, sometimes it's an ache others full blown crushing and sharp pain. Waking up takes so long in the morning, setting multiple alarms, sometimes I don't hear or must snooze the alarm.
Avatar m tn Another thought- has he been eating solid foods or is he only taking in liquids? If he has only been taking in non-solid food, this could wind up causing bulk not to form in stools.
Avatar m tn The notion that this 2nd generation neuroleptic either decreases or increases domamine sounds to me like this drug (generic Olanzapine) may behave like an adaptogen in a brain with someone with schizophrenia and/or bipolar.
Avatar n tn Are the blood blisters in the arms and legs of some elderly a vitamin or mineral deficiency? If so, what will help? This discussion is related to blood blisters.
Avatar m tn s during these more strenous workouts that I seem to be having a lot more trouble than usual getting out of breath (earlier in the workout, and under less of a workload) and then not being able to recover during the breaks we're given. My heart seems to be really pounding and I can really feel it in my head (a lot of pressure) and with breathing SO HARD. .....and it seems to have gotten worse for me! Then after the workout, I have a long lasting headache.

603015 tn?1329862973 I am on Epilim and Olanzapine, I have started to have a slight tremor in both my hands, on and off, then last week I had two days where my hands shaked violently when I picked up a drink, is this the meds or have they got my illness wrong and it is some other nerological disorder like MS or something. Another good reason to stop taking my meds.
