Avatar f tn I saw a psychologist who gave me olanzapine to take and suggested I may be bipolar but I have refused to go back as I do not respect their opinion as they assumsed to think I was either bipolar or normal and did not take into consideration any other disorders. In the last 2 1/2 years I have also dealt with confusion about my sexuality which I have now mainly resolved (I'm straight).
Avatar m tn Therese is correct that the medication is a drug used for treating patients with schizophrenia and manic episodes associated with bipolar I disorder. Some of these conditions can be hereditary. If your wife is still suffering from the same symptoms after all these years, perhaps she needs to talk to her doctor about changing her meds. I wish you and your wife the best of health!
Avatar m tn Zyprexa (olanzapine) is an atypical antipsychotic medication. Exactly how it works is not known. It is thought to work by changing the actions of certain chemicals in the brain. Zyprexa is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression) in adults and children who are at least 13 years old. Zyprexa is sometimes used together with other antipsychotic medications or antidepressants.
Avatar n tn Is this alright for my Bipolar disorder or should I add in an antidepressant. If yes, then which one? Coz Mood stabilizers I guess curb the thinking power, so will the anti depressant boost my thinking ability.
Avatar f tn I have been on olanzapine for 15 years and has helped me greatly with anxiety, and other mental health conditions. I am 35 years old and have over the past 7 weeks experienced extreme pain in my feet and ankles. I had also over the past 6 months experienced tingling in the feet and legs which I believe is a side effect of long term use off olanzapine. I have been very concerned over the servere pain in my feet as it is all over the foot and can be painful to walk on.
Avatar m tn Was it for depression or bipolar or schizophrenia? Unfortunately, while those medications do often work well for the disorder, they do often have sexual side effects. Not for everyone but that doesn't matter since it happened to you. Have you talked to your doctor about it? You could talk to your psychiatrist that prescribed them or your primary care doctor both. I'm sure this is really frustrating. What's hard to understand here though is the drug is long gone from your system.
Avatar f tn If you have been diagnosed with Bipolar Affective Disorder, just been on an antidepressant is not wise - it can spike the mania (I've seen that, and it's not pretty). There are some medications but one that seems to have been approved by many governments is Zyprexa (Olanzapine). It should be in a generic form now, so it should be cheaper than the name brand version. As you have been diagnosed with BAD II, your doctor should not have a problem prescribing it.
Avatar m tn I was told once by a psychiatrist that i had a bipolar disorder and prescribed me carbamazepine and 300mg seroquel pills. thats when my parents decided to send me to a free-drug rehab. and it worked i quit every pill....for a while because im suffering from anxiety and stress again. ive started smoking pot every day, but just in small amounts to calm me down. (1/3 of a joint daily maybe) recently ive decided to stop smoking too much pot and decided to take 0.
Avatar n tn I'm on 5mg olanzapine and 20mg fluoxetine need to know the best dose before my review
Avatar f tn I had paranoia too, but it was just another characteristic of the psychosis I had with the bipolar disorder. The olanzapine did help, btw. I did end up on Seroquel, which worked mostly at maximum beneficial dose. . Quite a few people I know had tremors from the Seroquel, besides falling asleep on 50 mg, and as you know, that is low dose. They were slurring words because they were falling asleep as they were talking, amd would nod off.
Avatar f tn I have tried Seroquel (I reacted badly to that and had to come off it after a week), Depakote (which made me gain weight and left my mood very flat and did not help with the irratibility) as well as various anti-depressants (which of course made bipolar worse) and Metazapine (which caused muscle twitching). Is anybody else taking Zyprexa, if so how have you found it. Any advice, experiences would be much appreciated. I am finding the whole thing very difficult.
Avatar f tn Hi im desperatly in need to know of a good bipolar medication that doesnt make me gain weight, I was on olanzapine and I gained loads, then they put me on abilifyand I got 13 of the uncommon side effects, then they put me on sulpiride but they are similar to olanzapine, and all the time ive been on lamotrigine, but they dont seem to work as well on their own. At the mo ive stopped taking my meds and finding it hard, can anyone help please?
Avatar m tn What is your exact diagnosis? Olanzapine is also known as Zyprexa which is an antipsychotic. Mitrapazine is Remeron which is an anti-depressent. I would doubt an antipsychotic would be given for anxiety. So although you are on two anti-anxiety agents (Etazolam and Xanax which is the brand name for Alprazolam) you have another diagnosis, I would assume and another set of issues to deal with.
1748829 tn?1338037041 Patients with a history of major depression or significant depressive symptoms including history of suicide attempts, or bipolar disorder or psychosis, should be referred for expert psychiatric diagnosis and management prior to treatment initiation.
8798274 tn?1399988458 Hi, Zyprexa (olanzapine) is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. You should always follow the directions of your doctor regarding medications. Your doctor knows you and is able to take your numerous specific circumstances into consideration when deciding what medication and how much is likely appropriate for you specifically.
603015 tn?1329862973 I am on Epilim and Olanzapine, I have started to have a slight tremor in both my hands, on and off, then last week I had two days where my hands shaked violently when I picked up a drink, is this the meds or have they got my illness wrong and it is some other nerological disorder like MS or something. Another good reason to stop taking my meds.
Avatar f tn My 37-yr-old daughter (adopted) was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in her teens. She’s been on psychotropic medications for over 20 years now (starting with Stelazine, has also taken several other psychotropic medications, and finally has been on Geodon for the past 5 years). This year she developed tardive dyskinesia of the jaw/mouth and also respiratory dyskinesia. Her neurologist wants her to get off the Geodon and onto Clozaril.
728480 tn?1312059930 severe Schizophenia It all depends as well, what is your diagnosis? Erractic behaviour is common with folks that have Bipolar Disorder. Are you on any other meds? It's important, as much as you don't like it, to keep taking it, if you don't being non-compliant may cause issues with your therapy. Effexor can activate Bipolar hypo/mania. It sounds like it has triggered that.
Avatar f tn i am currently taking 10mg of olanzepine, and 200mg carbemazepine per day for bipolar. i am seeing a new psychiatrist who is strongly suggesting that i stop the olanzepine because i have greatly elevated levels of cholesterol and have gained 50 pounds. (have been on said meds for about 5 years). her 2 suggestions are abilify and ziprasidone--i know nothing about either of these meds and would greatly appreciate any info. and input you may have.
