Common Questions and Answers about Oily skin medication

Avatar n tn My daughter is active in sports and is 16 years old. She has very oily skin and is experiencing frequent acne breakouts along with blackheads especially in the t-zone on her face. What do you recommend for treatment? We've tried Proactive and it seemed to make her acne worse. She also has sensitive skin.
Avatar f tn My dermatologist gave me a special cleanser to use 3 times a week, and he said I should otherwise use just water and try to do as little as possible with my skin. Problem is that I have probably the worst skin type ever, it's either really oily or super dry and flaky. When I wake up in the morning my face is covered in a thin layer of oil, so of course I need to wash it before putting on make-up. But after washing it it's all dry, so I need just a bit of lotion to moisturize.
Avatar m tn This might sound strange, but after testing myself for some time I can say, that ejaculation makes my skin oily and causes acne. After 4 days the skin gets back to normal (I've been testing this for several months and the results are always the same). I've read that the two things are not related, but my skin says opposite. I am 29 years old and have acne problem on my back, shoulders and neck, fortunately not so much on the face. My parents and brother haven't had problems with acne.
Avatar n tn Hey Everyone, Well I have Acne on my Face (I am a Teen) but I am trying to find something that may help me fight it. I have tried Proactiv and other types of Acne Medication, but I think I may know what is not helping… A few hours into the day, around 11am, my forehead (where the majority of my Acne is) begins to be very oily… I think if I was to able to keep the oil from my forehead throughout the day, this would reduce my acne.

Avatar f tn I am a 25 year old normal healthy person. I have suddenly gotten oily hair on the crown of my head even right after showering, and no matter how much I was my hair it will not go away. It has lasted about 2 weeks now, and seems to be getting worse. I have never had extremely oily hair, and I know it is not because I am washing my hair incorrectly. Has any one else had this happen, and how long does it usually last. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn this worked for me and i was the worst of acne sufferes, i have extremely oily skin. I have been a life long sufferer, and my daughter is becoming a sufferer. i may have found a remedy that worked wonders for me. Unfortunately i believe potato chips, soda and milk contribute to acne. i have told my daughter to stop eating junk food but of course a 11 yr old doesnt listen, she is starting to get very bad acne. I had very bad acne and i will striclty monitor her eating habits.

Avatar n tn Hi, I am 27 male Indian. My scalp normally stays oily in day time and I sweat too much from scalp in hot weather. Some time it becomes dry too.. No problem with these, but have below problems. Please check and help. 1. when scalp becomes oily it starts itching, sometime i can see itchy pimples. Avatar f tn After doing some research, I believe it is an over production and build up of sebum on the scalp. I have had acne problems, have rosacea, and my skin and hair is very oily. I found balancing shampoos on line that are supposed to prevent sebum build up. Aveda is one of them, but I haven't tried it. Sebum: substance with an oily consistency produced by the sebaceous glands. It lubricates hair, is an antifungal/antibacterial, and imparts waterproofing properties to the skin.
Avatar n tn Dear Doctor I'm 57 years old and have very oily skin from teens As years goes by I have white oily spots on my face and I can't get rid of it. Please advise. Is there a term for this kind of spots? Do you know which one I mean?
Avatar n tn It is a skin disorder affecting the scalp, face, and trunk causing scaly, flaky, itchy, red skin. It particularly affects the sebum-gland rich areas of skin. Side effects to inflammation may include temporary hair loss. If severe outbreaks are untreated for extended intervals, permanent hair loss may result, because of damage to hair follicles. http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn my oily hair was back within 3 days of being off it. My skin is still perfectly fine, but my hair is awful! By the end of the day my hair feels heavy and like theres that kinda wet oily feeling weighing it down. I've tried the tea tree oil shampoo, head and shoulders, clarifying and one by biolage for oily hair. None of them have worked.
Avatar m tn came across your post about black oil coming out of your skin. I have the same issue. Every time I sweat, even a little, these black oily dots come out of the pores on my upper cheekbones. I’ve had this problem since the late 90’s but never thought much about it until today. I don’t have any health problems except for follicultis and minor ezama. I used tanning beds 15 years ago. I’m a 41 year male. Eat mostly organic foods. I don’t think it’s toxins, but who knows?
Avatar n tn Extensive craving for carbs, sugars, alcohol, obesity, scaly skin around the eye, lower level of energy, depression, increased allergies and many more are symptoms of this nasty fungal parasite. Left untreated, Candida Albican infection spreads to other organs as well. Search for Candidiasis. See images. I have dealt with this for three years. Some doctors may not believe a systemic fungal infection and may deprive you of most needed strong anti-fungal treatment you need. Seek an expert!
Avatar f tn I have never had any problems with oily skin or oily hair ever. I wash my hair daily and condition. I have not changed my daily regimen in 2 years One thing I have tried was applied Shower to Shower powder to my hair before going to bed and washed out in the morning (not the sexiest looking thing at night but it helps). It drastically reduced the oil, but came back 2 days later. The only thing I worry about is clogging the glands that are producing the oil, so I don't do it daily...
Avatar f tn Then when increasing my dosage in the second trimedter my acnr got way worse. Skin so oily and cystic big ones! 800339 tn?1270437086 I have been on this medication combination for almost a year now, and have not had a problem with dry skin (usually it is too oily, and some days it is still...) until now. Any suggestions on why this might be would be appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I am on Armor for replacements. Lately I have been extremely tired, I have diaheria, My hair has become oily, and my skin extemely dry. I have been having a lot of headaches. I have neot been able to loose any weight. Do I need to go get my levels checked again. I know there is wide variety in the levels. What so I need to look for and what level do I need to be close to?
Avatar m tn If you have high levels of androgen or are particularly sensitive to their effects your skin may be excesively oily. Bacteria on the skin then feeds off this oil and acne develops. There is no medical evidence that certain foods affect the proceses involved in acne one way or the other. Although washing is important it is not enough to clear acne on its own. See your doctor for a course of oral antibiotics such as Doxycycline or Lymecycline. These kill acne-causing bacteria on the skin.
Avatar m tn I have only taken Pristiq for 10 days and have felt like I have been on a completely different planet for the entire time. My eyes have been dialated, my skin has broken out and has been dry/oily/irritated, I have also had blury vision, constant horrible sweating, heart pulpitations, lack of concentration, insomnia, increased anxiety and have not felt good at all. I have never taken an antidepressant before and am only on 50mg per day.
1747085 tn?1311582745 You have to drink lots of water and eat fruits and vegetables. If you can limit yourself from sweets and oily foods. Below are some guidelines that I do everyday. It really works PROMISE. 1.Tie your hair and use a headband. 2.Wash your hands with antibacterial soap so that your hands don't transfer more acne-causing bacteria to your face. 3.Wash your face with a lukewarm water and use a CYLEINA TOMATO SOAP or CYLEINA BLACK PEARL SOAP. [It's available here in the PHILIPPINES.
Avatar m tn I'm currently using a topical gel that has been working pretty well. At the same time...I tend to have oily skin when I don't wash my face, so I like washing my face using a face wash scrub. I also realize that a lot of the face wash scrubs contain salicylic acid which is an active ingredient in acne treatment.
996490 tn?1251868470 A topical synthetic retinoid such as Differin or Retin-A can be used in conjunction with oral antibiotics to speed up healing time. If your skin is oily use a good cleanser for oily skin such as Estee Lauder's Sparkling Clean cleanser. If your skin becomes fragilised due to topical acne treatments use a bland cleanser such as Eucerin, La Roche-Posay or Cetaphil. Eloise.
Avatar n tn It took me a long time and medication to be be comfortable in my own skin, so to speak and be alone with myself and be able to do nothing. My obsession was really crazy, it was feeling the need to mess with my ears constantly. Pick at my ear etc. I would also get lost in it and my daughter would say, Mom tune in Tokoyo because I would be off in this obsession.
Avatar n tn So, for the crown of my scalp to suddenly become oily really worried me. I am on heart medication and was looking to see if that might be the cause. I've used Nice and Easy color too but I've used it for years. This started about 2 months ago. I did just like everyone else...washed all my hairstyling tools...changed shampoo...made sure all the conditioner was rinsed out...all to no avail. I hope someone can come up with some kind of answer or at least a solution to this problem.
Avatar f tn It sounds like Acquired Cutaneous Adherence, or sticky skin syndrome, and it's quite rare. It's often caused by a medication, but not always, and it's not progressive, but is troublesome. Usually, when the skin is completely dry it's not sticky, but that doesn't seem to be the case with you, so it may not be this. You can find a discussion of this at... http://www.empowher.com/community/ask/any-help-skin-gets-sticky-when-it-gets-wet and may be able to get a better answer.
Avatar n tn Simply wash and then dry with a soft towel. Wash the skin twice daily, or more if the skin is unusually oily. Astringents can be used on exceptionally oily skin, but avoid alcohol-based astringents, as they dry out and can damage the skin. The second step in treating and preventing acne is medication. Acne medication can be found over-the-counter and in prescription form.
Avatar m tn I have oily skin with mild acne. In the morning (5am) and before bed(10pm) I use my medicated cleanser and moisturizer. When i come home from work I shower (5pm) and I'm not sure if I should use my medicated products or something different because if I use my medicated products than I would be applying the medication 3x a day. I normally reapply my make-up after I shower so I am forced to wash my face before bed as I will not sleep with make-up on.
