Avatar n tn m not sure which country you are working in but in the UK and US there will be an occupational health unit that can advise you. Otherwise you can take the HIV DUO test at 28 days and be assured of a negative result.
Avatar m tn If you actually live in Zambia, where the worlds most HIV/AIDS epidemic exists, you would know. 1 out of 7 adults in Zambia has HIV. So I know you are not from Zambia.

Avatar f tn The opacities can be caused by chronic infections like tuberculosis, sarcoidosis and due to occupational lung diseases like silicosis, asbestosis etc. Tuberculosis can produce typical changes in X rays and typically affects the upper lobes. This further correlated with blood tests, which show a raised ESR and lymphocytes. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I work in occupational safety and health field. There was a question about firing practice at gun ranges during pregnancy last week. I posted some recommendations to prevent lead exposure to pregnant mom's and fetus. Based on an article in Seattle Times, October 19, 2014 "Loaded With Lead" I personally will no longer be visiting a firing range during pregnancy, and hope other pregnant mom's will do the same. Children in general are more susceptible to lead posioning.
Avatar f tn I'm from johannesburg South Africa . Just noticed how different our health systems are.
Avatar n tn I have been working here in Zambia on a 6 month contract. During my time i have hooked up with 4 girls. One is a CSW. All the encounters have not involved intercourse. Just unprotected oral giving and receiving. Most recently however i have protected vaginal intercourse with one girl (Not the CSW) and unprotected oral. The condom did not break and was intact. No CIM Given the scenario, and the responses to most queries, it seems oral and protected condom sex involves no risk.
Avatar n tn The results of this research have provided the EPA and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) with information to evaluate the potential health effects of workplace exposure to formaldehyde. Long-term effects of formaldehyde have been evaluated in epidemiological studies (studies that attempt to uncover the patterns and causes of disease in groups of people).
Avatar n tn Most everything lasts a while past expiration before deterioration, including food. Expiration dates have a margin of safety built in. That being said, the above is true, but vitamins usually have way more that anyone needs in them so a little deterioration in potency isn't that big a deal depending on why you're taking them. After all, much of them just goes down the toilet anyway, so again, a margin of safety is built in there, too.
Avatar m tn s responsible for your employee/occupational health. As part of the reporting and follow-up, there is usually an attempt to identify information about the source patient (Hepatitis B and C, as well as HIV). The CDC website (http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dhqp/bp.html) has excellent information regarding how blood borne pathogen exposures in the health care setting should be managed. The specific link related to Hepatitis B is: http://www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/HBV/PEP.htm#section1.
Avatar f tn Now his company want him to see the Occupational Health Dr. The hospital and GP agree that he cannot return to work yet. He has no problem having the referral and seeing the Occ. Dr. He has not told work that he has Hep C, but Liver Impairment. The nurse specialist can supply a letter confirming Liver Impairment. What we want to know, does he have to disclose his Hep C and if so does the Occ. Dr. have to tell his employer.
Avatar n tn Dear Debra, For your conference and the part of your trip when you are staying in the 5-star hotel, you will be in "developed world" conditions. And, for the excursions and "off the menu" parts of your trip, you in and of our "developing world" conditions.
Avatar m tn With regards to asbestos exposure, he should discuss the situation with other employees, his employee health and safety representative, and his employers. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) can provide more information or make an inspection. This link may be helpful: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/asbestos Take care and best regards.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am a student. My major is about Occupational health and safety. That is, this topic is very interesting. Although I do not have experience to manage fatigue yet, I give some thing as reference if you want. I have some points as suggestion as follows: The first, Should be make more discuss between the employers and employees to get opinions from the employees which know the most clearly the situation, risks from the workplace as well.
Avatar f tn m pregnant and due to various reasons my boyfriend and I have split up. He is now in Zambia for 4 months and I was certain I wanted an abortion (I also wanted to say the right thing) Since he has left, all I can think of is keeping the baby. Any thoughts would be appreciated about what to do.
Avatar m tn The CDC focus national attention on developing and applying disease prevention and control (especially infectious diseases and foodborne pathogens and other microbial infections), environmental health, occupational safety and health, health promotion, injury prevention and education activities designed to improve the health of the people of the United States.
Avatar m tn The occupational exposure is common in the clinical settings and represents an important risk for health care personnel. The estimated risk of contamination through percutaneous injuries involving HIV-contaminated sharp objects is 0,32%. However, many factors are known or suspected to affect the infection risk in specific cases, including the wound's depth, the volume of biological material and the viral load.
Avatar f tn My company just moved into a new building in 2006 and since the move there have been 5 females (including myself) that have been diagnosed by a doctor of this condition. This building we moved into is an older building and we are near a waste dump and a golf course in CA. It seems too ironic that we all have this condition and there are 2 other females who were diagnosed prior to the move who have said that they are getting more frequent attacks since the move.
681148 tn?1437661591 In case you missed it, the FDA cited a food processing plant in Yakima, Washington called Snokist for moldy applesauce. This company is a food supplier for the government school lunch programs. An article I just read had even more deplorable description of the facility than what was reported in the nightly news. Absolutely disgusting the descriptions I read about the condition the facility has been in while it is processing this stuff as food that goes across the entire country.
Avatar f tn Hi all Approximately 5 weeks ago I had a stick exposure to a human immunoglobulin (igG)  formulation in my laboratory.  It was in a glass ampoule that snapped in my hand and cut my finger quite deeply and bled quite a bit. Given this is a human product I read over the certificate of analysis which stated it was negative for hep a, b and c. However it was ELISA and Western Blot indeterminate for HIV. It was tested for HIV RNA (at sensitivity of 50 copies/ml) was negative.
