Common Questions and Answers about Nutritional yeast

Avatar m tn Brewer's yeast isn't a consistent source of B12. Nutritional yeast might be fortified with it, but brewer's yeast isn't. There are non-animal sources of B12, but how much of it actually gets into your system is in controversy. Spirulina, a fresh water algae, is very high in B12, but some don't believe it's well absorbed from it. Still, it's so high some has to get in.
Avatar f tn is also supposed to help with some of my physiological symptoms (icky digestion, recurring yeast infections, fatigue). I would love it if I could get some input from anyone who has tried nutritional therapy, special diets, or natural supplements as a part of or an entire alternative to traditional treatment. Anything related to the supposed mood-stabilizing effects of a no/low sugar and/or simple carb.
Avatar m tn Would you be kind enough to relay any information on nutritional/vitamin/mineral loss during hep.c treatment? Also, any additional supplements I should be injesting? Thank you.
Avatar m tn I am looking for somewhere to get some nutritional advise about good things to eat when you CLL. My mum is about to do her second course of chemo and is back on the old steroids.
Avatar m tn Would anyone know if it is safe for a 50 years old male to take nutritional supplements like "ensure"?
973741 tn?1342342773 Actually, the B12 in nutritional yeast is probably from an animal source. It could be from plant sources, but the definition of nutritional yeast is brewer's yeast with supplements added, and as you correctly point out, getting your B12 from plant sources is really really hard.
Avatar f tn Of course if you wish to check out the yeast infection angle first then get one of those new yeast infection tests found in the women's personal hygiene area. Also look up info on how to avoid future infections although some women are prone to them anyway. Good luck with everything.
387767 tn?1345872027 I understand how you feel. My cholesterol is within normal range, but I have had a heart attack that required one stent. I also have tried several statins and they were awful! One of them had me on the couch for a week feeling like I was going to die. Have you tried taking any of these meds just a few times a week instead of everyday to see if that helps? My cardio Dr said he has to do that with some of his patients. We have a natural alternative forum here at MH.
Avatar m tn There are a lot of things that can cause that...allergies, pollution, exposure to toxins or mold, systemic yeast infections or other fungal infections, certain bacterial infections (like Bartonella), Celiac Disease, and some chronic conditions, like Chronic Fatigue/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Fibromyalgia, and a variety of autoimmune disorders. I have it as part of my Lyme Disease and Bartonella so I know how frustrating it is.
Avatar n tn One differential could be burning mouth syndrome which may present as burning pain in the mouth, increased thirst, sore mouth or loss of taste. The cause may be unknown, or associated with nutritional deficiency, dry mouth, yeast infection, nerve damage, certain medications or hormonal imbalances. I would recommend that you have this evaluated by your doctor or dentist to determine the underlying cause and for proper management.
Avatar n tn Thank you!
Avatar f tn If this is not an actual dogfood, then this dog is suffering from nutritional deficiencies...Throw the bisquits away! They can only aggravate the problem...There are many excellent quality biscuits available....Purina one is awful!!!! Has he ever had a skin scrape done to determine if this is mites instead of just yeast & bacteria?? This is important & needs to be done FIRST! He needs to be bathed in a medicated shampoo (From the Vet) for Yeast & bacteria....Once a week!!!!
Avatar n tn If you don't have anemia, you don't have an iron problem. Vegetarians should have no problem getting sufficient iron, as it's present and best absorbed from a variety of plants. Examples are nettles, raw spinach, raw dandelion greens, beets, parsley, watercress -- you get the picture here, green leafy vegetables and others as well. Now, just being a vegetarian doesn't mean you're eating well.
Avatar n tn You mentioned the yeast pills.... Try going to your health food store and asking for nutritional brewer's yeast flakes (I like the large ones). They often come in bins so you can get as much as you like, but if not they are sold in containers also. Take some home and offer it to your dog. If he needs it, he will eat it without forcing it on him.
219373 tn?1274921434 Your symptoms are characteristic of burning mouth syndrome which can occur due to many causes like dry mouth, yeast infections, nutritional deficiencies, dentures, nerve damage, acid reflux and menopause. B vitamins, saliva replacement products, medications like clonazepam and capsaicin have been found to be very effective. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/burning-mouth-syndrome/DS00462 Please consult your physician about it. Take care!
Avatar f tn As far as I know, anti biotics are useless against 'yeast' infection. 'Yeast' is a fungus. Anti biotics are useful against 'bacterial' infections only. And the over use of anti biotics can lead to yeast infections as the anti biotics break down the body's own natural defenses. Your use of the word 'prone' makes me wonder if she has received too many anti biotics. I would suggest that you try to build up 'her' natural defense system.
1391114 tn?1279954121 I find this very strange as I am honest with my self about what I am eating and follow nutritional information religiously. I am expecting results from my latest thyroid test on Monday so we will see what the levels are now that I actually feel bad. I am wondering why my TSH dropped so much when I wasn't taking levothyroxine? I am also wondering if there is a link between yeast over growth and thyroid function.
703362 tn?1427766328 Here's a really short nutritional poll for everyone to give a try.....post your selection and I will come back this evening with the answer....Let's see how everyone does! What do potatoes, bananas, carrots, rice, whole-wheat flour, and dried beans have in common?
