328799 tn?1276565732 Just to help prevent this next time, all iceberg lettuce is "bad." It has absolutely no nutritional value. Switch to Romaine and Green Leaf, or even better, a spring mix or something like it that has dandelion greens, parsley, watercress, and the like, which are chock full of minerals and good nutrition. That will save you from the fact that iceberg does go bad more quickly in spots than other lettuces. (From an old produce manager).
594189 tn?1386916607 If you are eating the regular iceburg lettuce, I will agree that there is little food value; however, other types of lettuce - like romaine, green leaf, red leaf, etc DO have nutritional value, as well as baby spinach, swiss chard, etc. I agree that you should try to include other things with your salad. And you said you ate your chicken on a bed of baby spinach - which is very good for you. As usual - keep us posted and wishing you the best of luck.
Avatar f tn If you do salads, use spinach or romaine lettuce...ice burg lettuce really has no nutritional value to it. All veggies are good...just ear what you like. Don't force yourself to eat a veggy that is going to make you gag. For breakfast a scrambled egg or 2 with some fruit or whole grain toast is goid. Avoid a lot of breakfast meats (bacon sausage etc) as they have a lot of nitrates in them.
Avatar f tn I was wondering at what to put the nutritional value of food over the amount of calories they contain. For example, I regulate my calories fairly closely and usually am always well under the daily recommended amount, but there are some days that I feel like I am hungry all day. As a general rule, I enjoy eating raw mixed nuts as a snack, but they tend to be high in calories.
Avatar n tn Juice covers a lot -- virtually anything can be juiced if you're doing this yourself. Fruit juices contain a lot of sugar, but can also be powerful antioxidants, but vegetable juices can be very valuable. Wheatgrass juice is great. So this depends on what you mean by nutritional juices. Most important, avoid anything that's not organic. When you juice anything, you use a lot of it, and that enhances the amount of harmful chemicals that exist on whatever you're juicing.
Avatar m tn You might want to hit the lights and check, because for the first time ever, the FDA is allowing fresh spinach and iceberg lettuce to be zapped with radiation in order to kill bacteria such as E. coli and salmonella. Puts a whole new spin on "nuking" your food, doesn't it? The goal, as with most wrongheaded ideas, is to "protect" consumers. And as usual, the FDA has chosen incorrectly. Are you surprised?
Avatar n tn or if they dont just dont order the bun extra long leaf lettuce... sushi restaurants (tho I dont eat fish lol) have cabbage rolls and lettuce wraps...
Avatar n tn We have just had our 7 year old son tested for allergies. We will get all of the results next week, but I did learn that he has a severe allergy to lettuce! I've never heard of such a thing!! He literally CRAVES lettuce and salads and is quite sad at learning that he can't have it. Has anyone ever heard of an allergy to lettuce? I can't seem to find any information on this at all!
8793709 tn?1409594060 I do the same as you, except that when hubby gets home I turn the stove back on to reheat it instead of microwave. I believe that even if it loses a little bit of the nutritional value, it's still healthier and cheaper than ordering or eating out.

568875 tn?1424397205 You will have to check the labels on foods. Chinese and Mexican foods typically have a ton of salt. But if you make everything yourself you'll greatly reduce your salt intake. Breakfast- Eggs (no salt!) on toast with fruit. Lunch- Hummus with vegetables! Very high in protein and very filling. You could also try a lettuce wrap. Buy some Romaine lettuce and fill a leaf with cooked meat, cheese, etc. Be CAREFUL of deli meats as they're usually high sodium.

325405 tn?1262290178 I think if you freeze it, you would take away from the nutritional value. You could get the same nutritional value from eating bean sprouts on a salad. Would be easier for you.
