I had the physical therapy, it wasn't too bad. But be prepared to be very sore. For me they made me do exercises to strengthen my shoulder and upper back, did massage and put me on the cervical traction machine. It was OK, not too bad. I can tell you that everyone, as they age, has some degeneration in their spine.

Avatar n tn These accumulated changes caused by degeneration can gradually compress one or more of the nerve roots. This can lead to increasing pain in the neck and arm, weakness, and changes in sensation. In advanced cases, the spinal cord becomes involved. This can affect not just the arms, but the legs as well”. Taken from http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000436.htm Investigations like MRI spine are done to rule out.

Make sure your diet is mostly whole foods including low-fat dairy, whole-grains, lean protein, fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and healthy oils. Don't skip breakfast. 1448748 tn?1312956208 I tried all sorts of treatments such as physical therapy, diet change, and nsaids and stretching and heating pads, etc. They provide very little relief and It always gets worse after standing and walking for long periods of time and is relieved only somewhat by laying down or sitting and resting. Avatar f tn I brought my cat to the vet today for a physical...and the vet recommended I give him a type of Purina food that is easily digestible. However, Nature's Variety is such a better quality food....95% meat, no by products, no fillers, no grain, and no gluten. So my question is....should I stick with Nature's Variety??? Also, are beef and lamb harder to digest??? He eats lamb, venison, beef, and chicken. Should I just stick with chicken, rabbit, and venison??? Thank you!!!

Avatar m tn Ideally you should see a specialist and then get a referral to a physical therapist. This way you can learn the exercises that will help you build up your core muscles and take strain off of your back. My husband has the same issue and he is doing much better because of the exercises. I think he went to PT a couple times a week for maybe 4 weeks at least. Now he does the exercises at home everyday.
612551 tn?1450022175 My doctor said bright light can cause/aggregate the the MD condition and I said I never wear sun glasses and bright sun light and oncoming headlights don't give me a lot of trouble.. some of course, but not enough to make we think "put on sun glasses". With all the snow and associated extreme bright light recently I have been trying to wear sun glasses when outside on sunny days. Any experience on dealing with, slowing down the degeneration of the macular?
Avatar f tn Many patients are confuse about the term “degenerative” because it sounds like a progressive condition (get worse with age). The term applies to the disk, but does not apply to the symptoms. While it's true that the disk degeneration is likely to progress over time, the pain from degenerative disc usually does not get worse and in fact usually gets better over time. Physical therapy treatment is very important in herniated disk recovery.

Diet is just one aspect of my recovery. Today I lay in the sun and meditated to a bit of classical music and felt at peace. I also hobbled to the shop with my sick daughter to get exercise.

Avatar f tn These vitamins are used in patients with signs of macular degeneration, and include Vitamins A, C, E; zinc and copper; lutein; fish oil (omega 3). Do not take Vitamin A if you are a current smoker. No make-up or eye cream will harm the retina; surface irritation of the eye may occur if the make-up or cream gets onto the eye.

Avatar m tn There is no evidence that all your symptoms are tied together (although plenty of alternative health folks would have you believe it so they can "sell" you treatments). Things can just occur coincidentally. Vitreous syntheresis is no big deal. You're making a mountain of a molehill. If you find yourself continually obsessing about this, I'd recommend strongly you seek treatment for anxiety.
