Novolog to lantus conversion

Common Questions and Answers about Novolog to lantus conversion

novolog

Avatar n tn I would suggest that you wait to take your Lantus shot until you normally take it the next day. You may need to check your blood sugar a couple extra times and may need to increase your Novolog dosage at one or more meals. Just be careful and take less rather than more to be safe. Good luck.
Avatar f tn HELLLO, I AM FRESH OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND THEY WANT ME TO CONTINUE MY INSULINE REGIMENT WITH LANTUS AND NOVOLOG BUT THEY DIDNT TELL ME WHICH ONE TO TAKE WHEN LIKE WITH MEALS AND BEFORE BED. I NEED HELP BEFORE I END UP BACK IN THE HOSPITAL. CAN YOU HELP ME FAST?
704262 tn?1247674638 Yes, you can take Novolog and Lantus in separate injections, but they may not be mixed in the same injection or at the same injection site. Generally Novolog is only prescribed if you follow a strict physician-approved routine. If you have a meter and strictly monitor results of various combinations under vary circumstances use of both medications should cause no problems. Be careful using the Novolog because you can easily drop your blood sugar to very low levels.
12861759 tn?1432917955 I did both at the same time. not that hard to do, just keep good records and test your BG. when your 4 hour PP BG is the same as your pre-meal BG then you took the correct amount of novolog for the carbs you eat. WHen your Pre-meal is under 130 and your fasting is under 130 your Lantus is correct.
Avatar n tn My son has recently switched to Lantus and Novolog. I have a question regarding bolus insulin for snacks. How many carbs can he eat without having to bolus? He takes Lantus at bedtime, then Novolog for breakfast, lunch and dinner at a carb/ insulin ratio of 1:12. He goes to school all day, and sometimes gets hungry and I am wondering if it is necessary always for him to take insuling even for snacks? Any ideas/input would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn Our doctor recently suggested that our 9-year old start using Lantus in the evenings in addition to her Novolog bolus for meals. She has gained 5 lbs in the past few weeks. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Avatar f tn One protocol is to take your blood glucose at night, then administer enough Novalog to bring it to normal levels. Then inject Lantus sufficient to bring the levels to normal in the morning.
Avatar n tn I use a short-acting insulin, Novolog, and a 24-period insulin, Lantis. I give Novolog with each meal, and Lantus when I go to bed. I am having troubles with my sugars in the morning. I wake up at 7am, and eat breakfast. I give my shot immediately after eating breakfast, around 7:20. I test my sugar before I eat breakfast and it is normally good. Then at 8am, I head to school. When I arrive at school around 9am, I test my sugar, which is usually pretty high (200-300).
Avatar m tn I switched from lantus to novolog and the doses are different, I then switched to the 70/30 novolin (relion brand from wal mart) as it was much cheaper and the dose once again changed, although I am type 2 and monitor my levels closely, all insulin brands work differently so be careful and consult Dr. I did finally settle on the 70/30 mix, you can get the pens but it is much cheaper to just inject yourself, I get the needles that are the same size as the pens.....
Avatar n tn Medtronic 512 and 712 - works with a blood glucose meter that sends results directly to the pump by radio frequency Deltec Cozmo - works with a blood glucose meter attached to it Animas - has several great features With an insulin pump you need to monitor blood glucose more frequently and be connected to the pump 24/7 but quality of life much improved over injections. Also, better blood sugar results and A1cs possible.
Avatar n tn NPH lasts 12-18 hours and Lantus lasts 18-26 hours. I think those doses are overlapping. My question to the Dr. would be why is she on Lantus and NPH??!?!?!?!? It is important to note that a diluted blood sample will produce a diluted reading.
Avatar n tn For the past year, I have been taking Novolog Insulin in combination with Lantus. I have noticed the beginning stages of cellulite around the areas where I give the Novolog injection. I am a 27 year old, juvenile onset diabetic. I am thin for my height and have never had a problem with cellulite until the change in medication. Can this be linked to either of the new insulins that I am taking?
Avatar n tn I am on lantus and the Novolog pen. I know when I first started lantus I got very anxious and before I had to take it, just in a dead panic. I can not fully answer your question, but I need your help. Can you ask your daughter if her lantus burns, itches, and/or does the area she injects it (arm, leg, stomach) feel heavy or like a big knot is under it?
Avatar n tn When the newer 24-hour Lantus was made available to diabetics, I switched and life is much easier now. The Lantus offers a base dose for about a day, with minimal peaks. The child then has to take a shot before every meal but the shot can be given immediately after he eats -- the mom watches carefully to see how many carbs he consumed and then figures the dosage out based on what he ate. The reasoning for using NPH instead of Lantus may be because more shots are needed with the Lantus.
Avatar f tn t take it, then I feel fine, and NO, it does not ever drive my BS down too much or really hardly at all. Lantus seems to be OK.I feel like I am having a reverse reaction to Novalog. Has this happened to anyone else? Seeing the doc soon.
Avatar n tn It could just be that your body is learning to adjust to the lantus, and the sweating will go away when you get used to it. Your weight gain could be because of the same thing, your body reacts differently to different types of insulin, and now your body is trying to figure out how to deal with lantus.
Avatar n tn I have had so much problem with that Lantus Opticlik that my Health Providers will switch me to the Levimere Flex Pen after I use up all the lantus cartridges. Is lantus a better insulin or is Levimere just as good as Lantus using it as a basal 24 Hour insulin???. I get my supplies from the Military Hospital because I am a retired service member and they do not have the lantus solostar flex pen but they do have the levimer flex pen.
Avatar n tn Lantus, Humalog, and Novolog ALL require prescrptions because 1) they have not been out on the market as long as the conventional porcine/bovine insulins (Humulin N, R, L, 50/50, 70/30, etc), 2) The onset of actions for Humalog, Novolog, and Lantus are quite fast (anywhere between 5 to 15 minutes), and although these insulins generally do NOT cause hypoglycemia episodes (low blood sugar), if patients do not know how to use them properly, they can lapse into a hypoglycemia episode and this can
1367276 tn?1278801812 t working so I changed it myself today to 20 units of novolog 3 times a day, and 30 of Lantus at bedtime. With what my endo was doing my sugars stayed over 250, but with what I'm doing my sugars are between 120 and 160. I have been searching the internet to find out on a 1500 calorie diet how many grams of carbs, protein, and fat I should have a day. I am a 39 year old female and I'm over 200 lbs over weight so I need to get this under control.
Avatar n tn I was warned by nurse that I might have reactions to the Lantus, but have not been able to get back to the clinic to find out if this is a normal reaction that will go away. So far, it does wax and wane so my motivation is confused. Will this go away after awhile?
Avatar n tn No, I am not aware of any people who have contacted us with any kind of resistance to Lantus. I do know that Lantus must be replaced at the end of a month on one bottle. The expiration date is really important, for near the end of the month, some of us find that it no longer crystallizes properly. Some people notice that when the Lantus bottle is about one month old, it doesn't work well. But if you just started the bottle, this is probably not the problem.
Avatar n tn I did however have an incident recently that took me to the ER. When I injected the Lantus into my ab, I was immediately able to taste it. I went to bed and woke up about an hour later with a blood sugar of 36. My daughter panicked and called 911. I was told in the ER that I had a common insulin reaction. It wasn't until the next day when I saw my family doctor that I found out that I did indeed hit a vein.
Avatar n tn Type 2. taking 20 units of Lantus at 6 PM. and told to take my Novolog on a sliding scale and given the sliding scale. 1 unit for every 50mg/dl over 100 mg/dl. Problem being I am always 100 + - before meals and don't need insulin. So when do I take the Novolog? I been waiting 2 hrs and using it to get from my normal 250 - 300 (After meals) down to an acceptable level.<140.
Avatar f tn The most effective and up to date diabetes regimen is a long acting basal insulin such as lantus or levimir either once or twice daily and a rapid acting bolus before each meal, dose determined by an insulin:carb ratio so that the dose is covering what you are actually eating. I would ask for a referral to an endo as your doctors don't seem to be up to date on treatment.
Avatar f tn I am a type 1A diabetic with normal insulin sensitivity and predictable bg responses to insulin doses. Until now. I went on a reducing diet (high protein, next to 0 carbs, increased exercise) but never decreased my once daily PM dose of Lantus (10 units.) Immediately my AM bg's jumped to over 200 and stayed there. No hypoglycemia during sleep (I never woke up, anyway.)I could bring my daily bg's down with my shortacting insulin.
Avatar m tn I am using Novolog 3 times and Lantus 1 time. I usually have a dinner 7:00PM, BS is raging from 110 to 160 at 10:00PM, 100-120 at 2:00AM, 130-150 at 7:00AM just before breakfast. What is the reason morning BS so high ? If it is a little bit high, I understand the fact that due to some hormon, it seems bit high. How should I adjust the insulin amount ?
