Avatar m tn THIS HAPPENED WHEN I FIRST STARTED USING NOVOLOG MIX 70/30 FLEXPEN [APRIL 2009] NORDISK SUGGESTED THAT EITHER THE SAMPLE PEN(S) WERE BAD OR THEY WERE NOT STORED PROPERLY [REFRIGERATED} AT THE DOCS OFFICE !! STOPPED USING SAMPLES UNTIL MY ORDER CAME IN .. PROBLEM STILL OCCURS!!
Avatar n tn "So I was wondering if that sliding scale is a standard one for all patients or different for each patient." It is best to consult with your father's doctor to identify the exact amount he/she recommends. A sliding scale can be used on most patients when only using ONE insulin type, not two as in your father's case. The 30 in Novolog 70/30 is short/fast acting [70 intermediate/all day] and Novolog Aspart is entirely short/fast acting. Too much can induce hypoglycemia.
Avatar f tn I asked about a 30 day supply of Novolog and it is $299.00 which is impossible for me to get since I am on a strict budget due to not working anymore.
Avatar n tn s has type 2 diabetes which was not controlled with pills. He is on the Novolog Pen 70/30 Mix, which I thought was a short acting and long acting combined. The doctor didn't tell him to adjust his dosage as to what he eats, just to take 20 units before breakfast and dinner. He is pretty good as far as taking his sugars and drinking something if he can catch it before it goes too low. He fights with me when he has reached the point of where he cannot do it himself.
704262 tn?1247674638 can I take both novolog and lantus in the same day to bring my sugar down
Avatar f tn Well, I recently changed drs and the new dr put me on Novolog pen 70/30-I am at 18 units ever 12 hours and it is not lowering blood sugar readings at all. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the Novolog pen comparable with the NPH and Reg regamen? I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched. I asked my dr about it and he said that the Novolin was fast acting and the Novolg was slower and was supposed to be better control. I just dont see it.
Avatar n tn I use a short-acting insulin, Novolog, and a 24-period insulin, Lantis. I give Novolog with each meal, and Lantus when I go to bed. I am having troubles with my sugars in the morning. I wake up at 7am, and eat breakfast. I give my shot immediately after eating breakfast, around 7:20. I test my sugar before I eat breakfast and it is normally good. Then at 8am, I head to school. When I arrive at school around 9am, I test my sugar, which is usually pretty high (200-300).
Avatar f tn t even lay on my back without being in pain so most exercising is out. i am on insulin the novolog 70/30 mix i was taking metformin 1000mg twice a day my doctor took me off that a couple weeks ago. i now take 7.
Avatar n tn i have taken Novolog 70/30 for many years and control the dose by my blood sugar readings
Avatar n tn Cristophe, It sounds like skipping meals is working for you. And, as long as your blood sugars remain within the target range, thats great. But the insulin you are using was not really designed to be used that way. Mixtard is pre-mixed insulin containing 30% rapid-acting and 70% NPH insulin. It's maximum action is at 2-8 hours after injection. And meals should be timed to coincide with this.
Avatar n tn My pharmacist is telling me that most diabetics use Humalog (and Novolog use is rare). Has anyone else had problems or switched from Novolog to Humalog? Are there Novolog users out there? Thanks....
1367276 tn?1278801812 I am working with an endo they are the one that put me on this dosage. As of the 6th my endo bumped me up to 10 units of novolog 3 times a day with 2 unit for every 50 points above 150, and then I take 30 units of Lantus at bedtime. This still isn't working so I changed it myself today to 20 units of novolog 3 times a day, and 30 of Lantus at bedtime. With what my endo was doing my sugars stayed over 250, but with what I'm doing my sugars are between 120 and 160.
Avatar n tn You may need to check your blood sugar a couple extra times and may need to increase your Novolog dosage at one or more meals. Just be careful and take less rather than more to be safe. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Sorry this is such a late response, but no, Humilin R (regular insulin) is not a substitue for Novolog, which is a fast acting insulin. However, her insulin supply is still good for up to 30 days after taking it out of refrigeration. Hope she made it there OK and you had a nice visit.
Avatar n tn Are you sure they told you your child has to eat 30-45 grams of food or did they tell you your child had to have so many units of insulin per 30-45 grams of food? My son has to have 1 unit of insulin (novolog) per every 45 grams of carbs he eats. IF he does not eat the full 45 grams he does not need the unit. I usually wait until after he eats before giving him insulin because toddlers are so finicky they may not eat all of what you have measured out. HE is also on a slinding scale.
Avatar f tn he still constantly suffers with high glucose levels and low levels.doctors recently changed his insulin from novomix30 to humalog mix 25.but he has to have a cup full of apple juice with his breakfast then 1hour later a couple of biscuits (orders of doctors)as the fast acting insulin gives him hypos we cant increase his insulin levels in the morning to help bring down his levels in the afternoon example of his daily levels.BREAKFAST.7am (16.6 ) 10am (1.4) LUNCH 12.30 (6.7) DINNER 5.30 (20.
Avatar n tn If you were told to go to 100 units and you have only gone to 40, why are you surprised it doesn't work--you're taking less that half the prescribed dose. Everyone is different. If your dose isn't working for you, obviously it's not a strong dose for you--it's a weak dose. You're also not taking Tri-Mix if it only includes PGE1 and phentolamine--it's Bi-Mix. Tri-Mix will also include papaverine, which may be more potent than either of the other agents.
Avatar n tn 4) Finally, my Dr. was in on the study of Inhaler Insulin, anyone on it? He says the switch from the Novolog would be really easy, if I decide to try it. Thanks!!

Avatar n tn Our doctor recently suggested that our 9-year old start using Lantus in the evenings in addition to her Novolog bolus for meals. She has gained 5 lbs in the past few weeks. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Avatar n tn JackieJo, As you may know, we're not physicians here. While we have considerable personal experience with diabetes, we don't know you or your particulars, so it will be very important for you to meet with a doctor or a certified diabetes educator (CDE) to tailor your transition. As a start, I'd recommend you check in with your local JDRF chapter or branch. They sponsor this Forum and have physical offices all over the US and in several other countries.
193177 tn?1218690401 Am I in any danger if I take my nightime dosage and skip dinner. I take 30 units of Novalog mix 70/30 in the morning and 25 units at night. I can't seem to get a regular meal pattern, so how close together can i safely take my shots. I am close to getting my levels to an acceptable level, but I am still getting some readings in the low 200's. My most recent A1c was 6.7 down from 10.1 and I have lost 19 lbs. in 3 months.
Avatar m tn I dont know how to help with a mix insulin 70/30 is 70% slow insulin with 30% fast insulin mixed in. so every time you take an injection you get both insulins weather or not you need both. the slow insulin lasts 12 hours the fast lasts 4 to 6 hours. I use long 24 hour insulin with a rapid insulin last 4 hours. the long insulin is for my fating and the rapid is for high BG and food. easy to adjust and easy to get good numbers.
1273125 tn?1365077526 We agreed that if my mealtime numbers continued to be high that we would use a bolus insulin such as Novolog. I contacted her and she was going to call in the Novolog. My numbers have remained high and I am begining to worry about long term effects. The physician decided that this was not the best course of treatment and stopped the script. I waited for an hour at the pharmacy. I called the next morning and we kind of had issues.
Avatar f tn From what I have read after the first two to four weeks of treatment, your doctor will gradually decrease your dosage depending on your symptoms and the results of sed rate and C-reactive protein tests. For now you should speak with your Endocrinologist about adjusting your diabetes medication until you're off of Prednisone.
Avatar n tn Suddenly reports having readings that fluctuate greatly, and taking an average amount of insulin (split shot, 70/30) and having to supplement at night with 20 to 30 units of regular insulin (in 10 units at a time) and still having high readings. I seem to remember some talk of this sort of thing happening to long term patients for some particular reason but do not remember what initiates it or what the implications of the situation are. Does this scenario ring a bell with anyone?
