Novolog flexpen sliding scale

Common Questions and Answers about Novolog flexpen sliding scale

novolog

Avatar n tn Dear WaveRider: My father was recently discharged from a nursing home and he takes 2 different kinds of insulin. Novolog 70/30 and Novolog Aspart (Sliding Scale). I've heard about sliding scale before but when i brought it up to his pharmacist she did not know much about it (got me concerned). I found this one sliding scale online, listings of how much units to give depending on what his blood sugar level is.
Avatar n tn my fathers blood sugar is 224 how many units of levemir flexpen do i give him his Dr put him on a sliding scale. i dont know what the dosage is ???? i give him humalog the scale is 200 to 250/ 5 units and so on. Is there a guideline of units for levemir ?
Avatar m tn I take 24 units of lantic once a day NovoLog on the sliding scale what's the scale
704262 tn?1247674638 I take the Novolog 5 units in the morning and 5 units in the evenings, with meals. I also use a sliding scale with it. The Lantus I take just before bedtime. Right now, I'm at 25 units, from 45 units 3 weeks ago!!! I've found that when I take both just before bed, my morning fasting blood sugars are really low...like below 80. I've had it drop as low as 53. It was soo scary!! This morning, it was 89, which I was satisfied with.
Avatar m tn Does anyone use Novolog sliding scale for insulin diabetes? What health benefits you people get from it?
1367276 tn?1278801812 Your doctor has you on a very outdated method of determining bolus (meal) doses, called a sliding scale. The standard of care is called an Insulin to Carb Ratio, which has you count your carbs then take the amount of units needed for what you are actually going to eat. In addition, if your numbers are that high even between meals you may need more lantus. 15 units is quite low for a type 2.
Avatar m tn THIS HAPPENED WHEN I FIRST STARTED USING NOVOLOG MIX 70/30 FLEXPEN [APRIL 2009] NORDISK SUGGESTED THAT EITHER THE SAMPLE PEN(S) WERE BAD OR THEY WERE NOT STORED PROPERLY [REFRIGERATED} AT THE DOCS OFFICE !! STOPPED USING SAMPLES UNTIL MY ORDER CAME IN .. PROBLEM STILL OCCURS!!
Avatar f tn I have a NovoLog FlexPen with 100 units which stopped working after about 1/3 of the insulin had been dispensed. It simply stopped releasing the insulin left in the pen. I pay a lot for these pens since my insurance only covers about half the cost. I took it to my pharmacy who said I must get it from Novo Nordisk, Inc. How can I get a replacement?
Avatar n tn Depends on how you use your insullin. My doctor gave me an insulin to carbohydrate ratio to use. I use 1 unit of insulin to every 12 grams of carbs I eat. The less carbs I eat, the less insulin I use. I have a very physical job for four hours a day and I don't even need my Humalog when I eat lunch. My pen generally lasts me the whole month. My Humalog is only good for 28 - 30 days.
Avatar f tn I take 40 units Lantus (long acting), and sliding scale Novolog (fast acting) insulins. My bg is always so high in the mornings, I have to take Novolog and wait for sugar to come down to eat. I've had diabetes for many years, but never knew for sure which one! My dr would switch my diagnosis all the time. But went to endo and they did a blood test, and said I'm type 1. I'm angry my dr. never did anything about this.
Avatar n tn No I have not had that experience with Humalog-in fact it works very well for me. I use a sliding scale of Humalog at mealtimes and I use 14 units of Lantis each evening. Lantis is a 24 cylce insulin or a long acting insulin where Humalog is short term or short acting insulin. But this just shows you that different people have different needs. Before I used Lantis I used to use NPH-which is a shorter long acting inuslin-more like 8 hours. Have you tried giving your Novolin before you eat?
Avatar f tn Has anyone done this, and know how I could go about trying it? I take 40 units of Lantus at noon every day, and sliding scale of Novolog. My sugar was 199 when I went to sleep last night, and 356 when I woke up!
Avatar n tn I recently started thyroid medication and I am gaining weight. Does thyroid medication worsen insulin resistance/ glucose tolerance?
Avatar n tn m 19 been diabetic since I was 4 and and I have gained 15-20 pounds with my new insulin regimen started about 6 months ago.I take humalog on sliding scale 1 unit per 10 carbs and I take it every time I eat and I also take 50 units of lantus at bed time.So my question is can this be causing my weight gain? I think the lantus initially caused me to gain about 20lbs. to begin with 6yrs. ago and I'm now over weight.I'm on my feet constantly at work 9 hrs.
Avatar n tn Most endocrinologists will put a diabetic patient who uses insulin on a sliding scale of insulin, depending on what the blood glucose is when you test before a meal. The ideal is of course for glucose levels to be in the "normal" before meal range of between something like 70-126 (different doctors use slightly different numbers, but this is pretty typical). But we can't always have the ideal numbers -- if we DID, we wouldn't be diabetic!
Avatar m tn I feel I am on a huge dose for my sliding scale, which still barely seems to keep up. I am on Lantus 40 units, twice a day. Humalog sliding scale, starting at 20 units. For every 50 mg/dl over 150, 2 more units. In a typical day, Between 20-28 units multiple times a day. A1c=7.7 currently. Is Humalog maybe not the right choice if I need such high dosing?
Avatar n tn Take 10 units of Humalog before meals and 55units of Lantus before bed. What is the sliding scale when sick. Have sinus infection and bad cough.
12183454 tn?1424003995 m a typ 2 using the Lantus Flexpen at night and Novolog Flexpen during the day with meds of course Last Night my BG was 328 and I was Just in the Hospital due to having a BGR of 468 a while back then I had abdominal pain with reminded of of when I had Pancreatitis So I went it, so they did ekg, blood work , urine sample, ct scan, and an xray on me they come back to tell me my white blood cell count was high and that I have blood in my urine and i have an infection but we don't know where it
Avatar n tn I lost my sliding scale card that my Diabetes (Metabolic, Endocrine, and Diabetes) doctor gave me to use because I haven't had to use my Novalog since before Christmas. I currently have a virus and my sugars are out of control. What is the recommended dosage because I don't want to give myself too much or too little.
Avatar n tn I went to a diabetes education class that teaches about the sliding scale and how to take your Humalog. However, my doc gave me a formula to use to counteract high blood sugars when not enough insulin has been taken. It's (bloodsugar) - 100 divided by 40. So, if your blood sugar is 300 you would subtract 100 to get 200. Divide that by 40 to get 5 units of Humalog. I also have a scale for when I eat. It's for every 15 grams of carbs I take 2 units of Humalog.
Avatar f tn But u need to speak with ur nurse to find out what excatly the want u to be doing/eating to get the required results. Gd is a sliding scale and some women can not control their levels with diet and exercise alone.
Avatar n tn I had Gastric By-Pass January 7, 2007 and have lost about 74lbs. I still want to lose about 25 more lbs but since surgery I am having a really hard time controlling my blood sugars. I take 35 units of Lantus and I'm on a sliding scale of Humalog (I take anywhere from 3 to 10 units of Humalog). I just got back from lunch (I ate about an hour ago) and when I checked my blood sugar it was 310. It has gotten to where 250 - 300 is more the normal than before when it was about 80 - 120.
Avatar n tn I have type 2 and have developed severe neuropathy throughout my body. My weight is normal I'm 45 years old. This last year has been very hard because I'm falling a lot and it has advanced to a point where it's very difficult to walk at all. I don't have insurance so getting the proper care is hard. I recently admitted to myself that I'm no longer able to work and I'm in the process of filing for disability. The question I have is this.
