Avatar m tn THIS HAPPENED WHEN I FIRST STARTED USING NOVOLOG MIX 70/30 FLEXPEN [APRIL 2009] NORDISK SUGGESTED THAT EITHER THE SAMPLE PEN(S) WERE BAD OR THEY WERE NOT STORED PROPERLY [REFRIGERATED} AT THE DOCS OFFICE !! STOPPED USING SAMPLES UNTIL MY ORDER CAME IN .. PROBLEM STILL OCCURS!!
Avatar f tn I have a NovoLog FlexPen with 100 units which stopped working after about 1/3 of the insulin had been dispensed. It simply stopped releasing the insulin left in the pen. I pay a lot for these pens since my insurance only covers about half the cost. I took it to my pharmacy who said I must get it from Novo Nordisk, Inc. How can I get a replacement?
Avatar n tn "So I was wondering if that sliding scale is a standard one for all patients or different for each patient." It is best to consult with your father's doctor to identify the exact amount he/she recommends. A sliding scale can be used on most patients when only using ONE insulin type, not two as in your father's case. The 30 in Novolog 70/30 is short/fast acting [70 intermediate/all day] and Novolog Aspart is entirely short/fast acting. Too much can induce hypoglycemia.
Avatar m tn I switched from lantus to novolog and the doses are different, I then switched to the 70/30 novolin (relion brand from wal mart) as it was much cheaper and the dose once again changed, although I am type 2 and monitor my levels closely, all insulin brands work differently so be careful and consult Dr. I did finally settle on the 70/30 mix, you can get the pens but it is much cheaper to just inject yourself, I get the needles that are the same size as the pens.....
Avatar f tn Well, I recently changed drs and the new dr put me on Novolog pen 70/30-I am at 18 units ever 12 hours and it is not lowering blood sugar readings at all. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the Novolog pen comparable with the NPH and Reg regamen? I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched. I asked my dr about it and he said that the Novolin was fast acting and the Novolg was slower and was supposed to be better control. I just dont see it.
Avatar n tn Cristophe, It sounds like skipping meals is working for you. And, as long as your blood sugars remain within the target range, thats great. But the insulin you are using was not really designed to be used that way. Mixtard is pre-mixed insulin containing 30% rapid-acting and 70% NPH insulin. It's maximum action is at 2-8 hours after injection. And meals should be timed to coincide with this.
Avatar f tn I asked about a 30 day supply of Novolog and it is $299.00 which is impossible for me to get since I am on a strict budget due to not working anymore.
Avatar m tn Sorry this is such a late response, but no, Humilin R (regular insulin) is not a substitue for Novolog, which is a fast acting insulin. However, her insulin supply is still good for up to 30 days after taking it out of refrigeration. Hope she made it there OK and you had a nice visit.
Avatar n tn i have taken Novolog 70/30 for many years and control the dose by my blood sugar readings

Avatar n tn Our doctor recently suggested that our 9-year old start using Lantus in the evenings in addition to her Novolog bolus for meals. She has gained 5 lbs in the past few weeks. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Avatar f tn t even lay on my back without being in pain so most exercising is out. i am on insulin the novolog 70/30 mix i was taking metformin 1000mg twice a day my doctor took me off that a couple weeks ago. i now take 7.
Avatar n tn JackieJo, As you may know, we're not physicians here. While we have considerable personal experience with diabetes, we don't know you or your particulars, so it will be very important for you to meet with a doctor or a certified diabetes educator (CDE) to tailor your transition. As a start, I'd recommend you check in with your local JDRF chapter or branch. They sponsor this Forum and have physical offices all over the US and in several other countries.
1273125 tn?1365077526 We agreed that if my mealtime numbers continued to be high that we would use a bolus insulin such as Novolog. I contacted her and she was going to call in the Novolog. My numbers have remained high and I am begining to worry about long term effects. The physician decided that this was not the best course of treatment and stopped the script. I waited for an hour at the pharmacy. I called the next morning and we kind of had issues.
1367276 tn?1278801812 t working so I changed it myself today to 20 units of novolog 3 times a day, and 30 of Lantus at bedtime. With what my endo was doing my sugars stayed over 250, but with what I'm doing my sugars are between 120 and 160. I have been searching the internet to find out on a 1500 calorie diet how many grams of carbs, protein, and fat I should have a day. I am a 39 year old female and I'm over 200 lbs over weight so I need to get this under control.
704262 tn?1247674638 I take Novolog and Lantus insulin in the pen forms. I just started taking them like this about 6 weeks ago. I really like them!!! I take the Novolog 5 units in the morning and 5 units in the evenings, with meals. I also use a sliding scale with it. The Lantus I take just before bedtime. Right now, I'm at 25 units, from 45 units 3 weeks ago!!! I've found that when I take both just before bed, my morning fasting blood sugars are really low...like below 80.
Avatar n tn Suddenly reports having readings that fluctuate greatly, and taking an average amount of insulin (split shot, 70/30) and having to supplement at night with 20 to 30 units of regular insulin (in 10 units at a time) and still having high readings. I seem to remember some talk of this sort of thing happening to long term patients for some particular reason but do not remember what initiates it or what the implications of the situation are. Does this scenario ring a bell with anyone?
209227 tn?1242346745 Is there a difference between Humalog and Novolog insulins? I was told there are exactly the same. But is this true?
Avatar n tn Lantus, Humalog, and Novolog ALL require prescrptions because 1) they have not been out on the market as long as the conventional porcine/bovine insulins (Humulin N, R, L, 50/50, 70/30, etc), 2) The onset of actions for Humalog, Novolog, and Lantus are quite fast (anywhere between 5 to 15 minutes), and although these insulins generally do NOT cause hypoglycemia episodes (low blood sugar), if patients do not know how to use them properly, they can lapse into a hypoglycemia episode and this can
Avatar n tn My pharmacist is telling me that most diabetics use Humalog (and Novolog use is rare). Has anyone else had problems or switched from Novolog to Humalog? Are there Novolog users out there? Thanks....
Avatar f tn Novolog is before meals And Lantus is before bed or late in the evening.
1763618 tn?1315807367 My last A1C was on 7/15/11. It was 12, so my doctor upped my medicine. I'm taking Novolog 16-24 units every meal, and Lantus 12 @ bedtime. I've noticed that since then my face, and body, are both swelling. Not pain swelling but bloated swelling. I feel and look very....FLUFFY is the best way I can describe it. I havent weighed, but it feels like I have gained a ton. Is this insulin causing me to bloat and gain weight? Anybody else have this issue?
Avatar m tn Normally your care provider would have provided you with instructions. Didn't instructional paperwork accompany the pen? Contact your care provider for the proper amount [units] designated for you. Then Google search "how to use novolog flex pen" [w/o the " " [quotes]], scroll down and click the link to [PDF] NovoLog Flex Pen. You'll need a .pdf reader to read it. If you don't have one, go to Adobe and download and install the free pdf file reader.
Avatar f tn I have been recently put on Novalog 70/30 flexpen for about a week now, I was taking oral medication and I finlly has not been keeping my blood sugar under control, my dr.
Avatar n tn I use a short-acting insulin, Novolog, and a 24-period insulin, Lantis. I give Novolog with each meal, and Lantus when I go to bed. I am having troubles with my sugars in the morning. I wake up at 7am, and eat breakfast. I give my shot immediately after eating breakfast, around 7:20. I test my sugar before I eat breakfast and it is normally good. Then at 8am, I head to school. When I arrive at school around 9am, I test my sugar, which is usually pretty high (200-300).
Avatar n tn s has type 2 diabetes which was not controlled with pills. He is on the Novolog Pen 70/30 Mix, which I thought was a short acting and long acting combined. The doctor didn't tell him to adjust his dosage as to what he eats, just to take 20 units before breakfast and dinner. He is pretty good as far as taking his sugars and drinking something if he can catch it before it goes too low. He fights with me when he has reached the point of where he cannot do it himself.
