The most likely cause is chronic bacterial infection of the nose, sinuses or gums, sometimes infection with a fungus. My family has been telling me that there is a terrible oder coming from my nose, nearly all the time, sometimes its so bad that they smell it just sitting in the car with me! No one else has told me this but I think thats just people not wanting to comment. However I can never smell the odor myself. I do have a "stuffed nose" often, but this is usually pre/post a cold, so I'm not sure if thats really the issue.
sounds like a fungal infection. antibiotics taken too many times for "ear infection" caused the fungus to grow. i understand the smell; it follows me like a dirty pair of diapers smell. i just found out last week, after researching for 2 years to find a name for this invasion into my head, that it is called Coccidioidomycosis. it is debilitating, and degenerative disease, that needs to be fought hard daily, to help alleviate its many symptoms and cycles.
I know this sounds weird, every time I bend over to pick up something or what ever reason, I get this horrible smell in my nose. Sometimes it's something I've recently smelled but it is always a very unpleasant odor, mornings especially. I don't have a runny nose or allergies. Did have a major nose surgery about 24 years ago although this has been happening only about a year. Other than that, no other nose abnormalities.

My doctor gave me anti hestamine and nose spray but my nose become dry after taking the anti histamine, and this few weeks i started to have a foul odor in my nose and still my nose bleed coming back from time to time. I had a bad smell coming from one side of my nose. I tried almost everything until one day I took a q-tip and soaked it in purex. I removed the excess so that it would not be too saturated. Then I bent my head over and lightly swabed the inside of my nose. Tried not to breathe in until some of the fumes went away. Did not have an odor for several days. I did it one more time when I begin to notice a slight smell again. Since then I haven't had any more bad odor.
I too have this bad nose odor, I cant even walk into the grocery store without feeling depressed. People arent shy about letting you kno you stink these days! Recently, I have noticed that my teeth really seem to have an odor. I notice it when I floss and also during the day even after I have recently brushed my teeth. If I rub a finger on my teeth and smell it, it has a strong odor. I don't know if the odor is bad breath (and no one is telling me the truth) or if i have a weird thing growing on my teeth/gums.
