Norvasc vs atenolol

Common Questions and Answers about Norvasc vs atenolol

norvasc

Avatar m tn I asked him if there was a medication that is commonly combined with Atenolol, and he suggested the generic for Norvasc, 5mg. So I've been taking 5mg on top of my Atenolol for about a week, and I've actually noticed that my blood pressure has been a bit more elevated, not to mention I feel a bit crappy in general and anxious. I'm not sure if this is my body attempting to balance itself with the Norvasc but I never thought that it would make my blood pressure worse.
2095551 tn?1333122531 Is there any other drug out there that will work the same way to open up small blood vessels like Norvasc but wont have the "bad swelling of legs and feet?" Anyone, please me know know, looking forward to hearing from you...
Avatar n tn I have been on Atenolol for many years. Started out at 50mg. Several years ago my doctor said I could go off it as I was on Norvasc and Diovan. Based on a 24 BP monitor, it was discerned I did not need the Atenolol. I was able to cut my dose to 25mg. but cannot get off it. I become irritable, jittery and have a short fuse. Recently, became a vegan and my BP has dropped so I tried to d/c the atenolol once again. Will I ever be able to get off this med. my BP is 101/60 just on 5 mg. of Norvasc.
Avatar f tn I take 100mg of atenolol, 5mg of norvasc per day for about 9 mths now, i eat well and sleep fine and it controls my hbp (130/80) and slows down my pulse. I think u may not be able to sleep cos ur bp is too high and thats quite dangerous, usually i cant get any sleep if my bp rises above 150/90. Side effects of atenolol for me are slow pulse, weak erection, weakness and tiredness, confusion, difficulty taking quick decisions.
1260320 tn?1270394906 I have tried numerous - norvasc, coversyl, enalapril, atenolol, diovan, propranolol n god knows what else. Out of all these, I have actually found one that suits me - nif-ten (a combination of nifedipine & atenolol). Unfortunately, it has a side effect of causing gum disease/periodontal. I am looking out for other meds to replace this.
Avatar f tn I just got home from the hospital yesterday after being admitted for heart block that the cardiologiest suspected may be caused by the Atenolol I was taking since my heart looked healthy from all the tests they did and I'm not that old. I was taking 100 mg a day for high blood pressure for about 7 years (increasing dosage) and stopped cold (replaced by Norvasc) a couple of days ago. While I'm sitting here quietly my heart rate is 110 bpm and I can feel it pounding in my chest.
Avatar m tn im currently on atenolol 50mg in the morning 50mg at night for frequent pvcs..my main symptoms are just feel my heart pounding all day and night...i think the atenolol is causing me some side effects and i have and allergies and it might be making it worse and also want to start taking allergy shots but heard its not a good idea while on beta blockers. im looking for a list or names of a few calcium channel blockers that can also help my symptoms so i can talk to my dr about changing my meds..
Avatar m tn I had high blood pressure years ago, and after taking one or two medications with little success, I was given 25mg of Atenolol, which worked extremely well. Since then, the dose has been increased to 50mg, and that has done the trick--kept my blood pressure under 140/90. Recently though, I've been having an issue controlling my blood pressure. I felt really crappy a few months ago, and when I came home from a hike, my blood pressure was around 160/100.
1102792 tn?1285925260 ve been had these attacks b4 but i attributed it to too much bp drugs especially when i bought a new pack of norvasc which i tot was fake and the prob went away after i stopped taking the norvasc, last night i didnt take any drug, just a lot of pineapples.
Avatar f tn For 3yrs I had controlled HT w/Lisin/HCTZ 20/25 & Norvasc 5mg. I was a very healthy 44yo Fe, 4'10 110lbs. In Jan 07 my ins co said they wanted me to switch from Norvasc to Lotrel because they were "the same". My Dr kept me on the Lisin/HCTZ & added Lotrel 5/40. 12 days later I collapsed. At the ER my BP was 56/48, I was discharged 3 hrs later at 80/54. Things haven't been the same since.
Avatar n tn t want to take fossamax or any more drugs than necessary, but also do not want a recurrence of breast cancer. Is there a clinical study and shows femara vs placebo rather than femara vs tamoifen (novartis trial)? What is the general recommendation? Can you stop femara if side effects become a quality of life issue? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Hello, This is my story: About 3 months ago I went to the emergency room due to palpitations. I was 230 lbs and not eating well. My height is 5' 9". That night I felt my heart skipping beats. I could not sleep that night thinking I was having a heart attack. The ER doctor said my heart was fine and all I had was too much adrenaline, and gave me Norvasc (which I didn't take). My family doctor then referred me to a cardiologist. I had a stress test with a nuclear imaging.
Avatar m tn I take a small amount of atenolol a beta blocker (12mg per day) and 7.5 mg of norvasc which is a calcium channel blocker for HBP. My blood pressure is normal with the drugs. My heart rate is low from the beta blocker (45-50 BPM). I have read that if you become anemic from the riba or boceprivir that the beta blockers could be dangerous. Anyone know or have any experience with these meds or something like them.

Avatar f tn i have to take blood pressure medication daily - i take at least three different types. i take atenolol (100 mg) and norvasc ( 5 mg) in the morning and clonodine (.4 mg) three times daily. my doctors have told me that if my bottom number reaches 100 to go to er, i also have nitroglycerin to take when my heart feels "funky". you start out with 1 pill; wait 5 minutes, if not better then take another one; wait 5 minutes take another one and call 911. hope this helps.
15714039 tn?1442450888 I got married and found the woman of my dreams. I also am taking a medicinal pill cocktail of Atenolol, Norvasc, Wellbutrin, Topamax, Lamotragin, Abilify, and Cymbalta. I also suffer from Bi-polar and have been on some od these meds and others for @ 15 years. I do know that I have to take most/some of these and that the SSRI's do/can cause ED. My ultimate concern is that my libido may have permanently be altered to a lower level and that it might not be able to be raised.
Avatar f tn My dad who is 81 years old in India is on Citilin 500mg daily. The neurologist prescribed it after he had TIA number of times. He used to get seizures like symptoms and loose his consciousness. He was bedridden and stopped walking completely. Now, he is up on his feet and doing his regular work after regular physiotherapy. At first, he had trigeminal neuralgia and he was on carbamezapine 150mg twice daily and then 300mg twice daily. I just need to know how long he has to be on Citilin.

401554 tn?1270213756 I take 100 mg once a day of Atenolol and 2.5 mg Norvasc. I am 36 and have spasm and mitral valve prolapse. My heart rate in the morning is in the 70s and in the 50s in the afternoon. When it gets in the 50s I can tell. Just keep your Dr. Informed on how you feel at what heart rates. Everyone is different.

Avatar m tn Should I go back to my Doctor and request he put me back on Atenolol? I believe the Atenolol was doing the job. I had a few spikes and most of them were while in a Doctors office. I might add I have been taking the Atenolol since my Heart Surgery in 1996.
Avatar n tn I am on Crestor, Atenolol, Cartia and Digoxin and Synthroid. I had Tachicardia and Atrial Fib. I have symptoms of shortness of breath, a dry cough, extreme fatigue, short term memory loss, extreme joint pain and stiffness, poor balance, weakness at times, vision gets dark at times, neck and throat soreness.
