Avatar m tn The doc (a new one now) was open to the thought. He did full blood/urine work. All came back normal. Even did PSA to check the prostate. tomorrow morning I go for another ultrasound of the groin to check if node has changed in shape/size/content/etc.. as well as a CT scan to see if there is additional growth anywhere else in my body.

Avatar m tn The swelling is not consistient, some days it is bigger than others but never bigger than my thumb which apparently is a normal size for the gland anyways. It just feels firmer to me. It happens on both sides but the right side seems to get affected more when it does happen. it does not hurt really unless I play with it and sometimes it leads to a slight discomfort in my ears but never pain. Is this normal to have happen?
Avatar n tn Added to this, the last few times we have had sex, I start to lose my erection....Is this mental or physical. I am at normal weight in good shape.

Avatar f tn It definitely makes you gain weight at a rate of about 15% of your normal body weight. I had always been thin, athletic and an easily controlled diet. I was thin when my doctor put me on the medication for hypothyroidism. And the weight gain began. I fought it hard but I couldn't win. I gained 10 pounds steadily even with diet and exercise twice what I normally would. I would have gained much more if I continued to eat normally.
Avatar n tn I am able to run again, lift weights without fatiguing too easily, and am losing weight. For anyone who is low on the normal range, I encourage you to look into trying this therapy. Of course you should consult with a proper physician. If you get a 'no' answer, see another. I connected with a urologist after being told I didn't need this by my internal med doctor, and can relate many examples where I had legitimate conditions where doctors swore I had no problem.
Avatar m tn In animal studies, Victoza caused tumors of the thyroid gland in rats and mice. Whether it will aid in weight loss is unknown as no weight loss studies were conducted. Your best solution is a lifestyle change; proper nutrition and exercise. No pill can do what you can to do for yourself. Lisonopril - Do you have kidney issues? I would ask your doctor why "he seems to think this is a good medication to take." For what?
Avatar m tn lots of gym work and cardiovascular treadmill and Stairmaster work, and I am of normal weight etc. For the last couple of years I have had periodic prostate problems. I have a consistent PSA of 0.5 -- 0.8. DREs show lesions on the left lobe of the prostate---the lesions I think have been noted by physicians for years and therefore semm to be nothing new. Urine samples showed no bacterial infection. A biopsy was once attempted but my reaction was violent and it was aborted.
Avatar m tn I do smoke , I do walk almost very day at least 3 miles if not more, my weight is high side of normal. The only meds I take is for prostate problem.

3060903 tn?1398568723 Testosterone levels in healthy men typically decline with age, which is one of the factors involved in prostate cancer, as your prostate gland requires testosterone to remain healthy. One doctor who is trying to re-educate people on this point is Harvard-based Dr. Abraham Morgentaler. He has meticulously demonstrated that restoring testosterone levels in aging men does not increase their risk of prostate cancer. On the contrary, those with low testosterone are the ones at greater risk.
Avatar m tn Antibiotic therapy is prescribed for long durations in prostate infections in view of the poor permeability of the prostate gland to antibiotics. The course will be for about 15-21 days and may even be for a few weeks. Ensure that you keep your fluid intake over 2000 ml per day and avoid prostate irritants, such as caffeine, alcohol, citrus fruits, and spicy foods. Also avoid sitting for long periods of time or on surfaces that are not well padded.
Avatar n tn Pain during or after ejaculation or voiding is usually due to prostatitis or inflammation of prostate gland. During sexual arousal the prostate gland manufactures fluid that accounts for about 2/3 of the volume of ejaculate. Ejaculation beyond the capacity of the prostate to fill and empty may also cause discomfort. If one ejaculate infrequently too, fluid still builds up from thoughts, dreams, fantasies, etc.
Avatar m tn Hello, The most common cause of these complaints is an inflammation of the prostate gland or prostatitis. Too frequent or too infrequent ejaculation, sexual arousal without ejaculation, withdraw at the time of ejaculation, aggressive bike or horse back riding, and excessive spicy foods, alcohol, and caffeine in the diet can predispose you to this. The other causes can be urethritis, epididymitis, urethral stricture, spinal problems and hernia. I suggest you a urologist’s evaluation.

Avatar f tn Hello: My husband (58 year old, otherwise healthy, normal weight, somewhat enlarged prostate, 1 visit to the bathroom per night, steady PSA of 0.8 for the last couple of years, family history of aggressive prostate cancer and other types of cancer) had his annual screening 6 months ago. The doctor suggested doing the new test, the PCA3, because of his family history. It came back at 45.
Avatar m tn At the outset, I would like to mention that your urologist is following the correct procedure for treating this condition. The prostate gland is not easily permeable to antibiotics and this is the reason that the course of antibiotic treatment is so protracted. If the trimethoprim was prescribed based on the sensitivity report that was done for the organisms isolated from prostate fluid, it will be effective in treating the problem even if it takes a few more days.
Avatar n tn If he's just recently started doing it there could be something wrong which might need attention. His Prostate gland could be enlarged, or he could have developed diabetes, or have a urinary infection. I don't know exactly what, but this might not be a behavioural problem, it might be a medical one. A good idea would be to have him checked over at the vet's.
Avatar n tn Is it normal to have and elevated PSA at all. I would think this is clearly a sign of Sytemic Prostate Cancer. Should we be seeing someone else for an opinion. Do you start any treatment now. Is there anything we could be doing rather than just wait?
Avatar n tn Hi, Ejaculating 7-8 times a week is fine as long as you do not have any pain in the penis or the perineal region. The prostate gland produces the semen which nourishes the sperm produced in the testes and transported by the epididymis. Depleting semen beyond the capacity of the prostate to produce it can cause irritation to the prostate and may cause prostatitis. But if you are comfortable with your current frequency of ejaculation, there is no cause for worry.
428185 tn?1203745389 15, haven't decided on treatment yet, still getting tests and consultations. Gleason score 8; two biopsies show it's confined to right apex, rest of gland looks clean; second biopsy and MRI/bone scan show no escape from prostate. So far most doctors have suggested I'd have to go on hormone deprivation before any kind of surgery, and I do not want that in any way. The side effects are too debilitating, and there's no evidence it works well enough to justify those side effects.
Avatar n tn Hi, Hyperviscous and hypercoagulating semen can be caused by problems within the prostate gland. The prostate gland secretes most of the fluid in the semen and it secretes the enzymes necessary for keeping the semen in a liquefied state. Decreased force of ejaculation and quantity of semen can also be due to prostate abnormalities and will need to be evaluated thoroughly. Your urologist can perform a physical exam to assess whether the prostate gland is enlarged.

Avatar f tn One of my first symptons was losing hair and I went to a specialist and they did a biopsy of my scalp and said alopecia and indeed you can get alopecia with thyroid. I take proscar that they give men for prostate gland and it was a long time coming back but never as thick as it was before. I do not want to lose anymore. Just keep on demanding something and go to a specialist and someone will finally discover the problem. Do you have tingling in your fingers? Good luck to you.
Avatar m tn A sluggish thyroid (or hypothyroidism) is a commonly overlooked cause of fatigue. The thyroid gland supervises your body’s energy production. More than half the people with hypothyroidism don’t know it, according to the American Thyroid Association (www.thyroid.com). With as many as 26 million people suffering from thyroid disease, that’s a lot of people with an undiagnosed, fatigue-producing condition.
