Avatar n tn As for the medication and how quickly (or not) it worked, are there clear instructions on how to take it? With my Diltiazem it's quite clear that I should not take it with any food. So I can take it one hour before eating or have to wait 2 hours after eating. Perhaps taking your Lanoxin with food interfered with the absorption and that's why it took longer to kick in. Or maybe it was just a coincidence. Check out the instructions. You want relief as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn What test was given that shows a dilated left ventricle? "Normal" or expected range is 3.5 - 5.7 cm. Is your son a large young man? Is he an athlete? Athletes have a larger left ventricle that is very efficient with a reduced heart rate at rest below 60 bpm. The symptoms for an enlarged LV can be shortness of breath, weakness, possibly chest pain, etc., nosebleeds, dizziness and headaches don't usually represent symptoms for DLV.
Avatar n tn Is your uncle taking Lanoxin (heart medication)? Lanoxin has shown to increase the pumping strength. My father had a weak heart beat and after being on Lanoxin for about 10 years now, he's heart beat is strong (very strong per taking his pulse). Ask your uncle's doctor about Lanoxin.
Avatar m tn The ultrasound came back normal. She is due for her CA125 test next week. He asked not to go in for a CT/PET for now because last time it did not show lot of activity but on opening her up they found extensive spread. He said that her CA125 is a good marker for her so well just monitor that and occasionally do an ultrasound We are back at the same dilemma as to the next steps.
Avatar f tn I recurred about 7 months post chemo. That was carbo/taxol, 6 treatments. Question. Should I consider maintenance therapy? Should it be chemotherapy. I do not want to go on Avistan due to bowel involvement. Has anyone had success with maintenance. My doctors are considering it. One says he doesn't object. The other one said that it can harm my body while off chemo. Is maintenance always chemotherapy? Are there any good drugs out there? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn acknowledging that we do not know what to do and adding more chemo stresses your bone marrow. This philosophy would suggest a watch and wait policy and to save therapy for such time as when a recurrence happens.
Avatar m tn Have tried intron A , peg-intron, Pegasys and 72 weeks of infergen and until 6 months ago have been on maintenance therapy. I was a stage 4 with a enlarged spleen. Last biopsy and mri came back a stage 3 and a normal size spleen. As I understand the purpose of this study is to test how safe and how well this new medicine (PEG-rIL-29) fights the virus when it is given either by itself at different doses or in combination with the approved dose of ribavirin.
Avatar m tn I had no problem with the insurance for the last year for maintenance but they things have changed, Just wondering what other people have experienced.
Avatar n tn Digoxin is the generic for Lanoxin, so they are the same (just in case you are taking both). Coreg is a great beta blocker, so that should really help the fast heartbeat and blood pressure. Lanoxin helps the heart to beat stronger and get a better fill. Lanoxin will strengthen the heart muscle. Sounds like the medications are really improving your heart. That is really great news!! Yes, your heart can get better.
Avatar f tn I knew the results of the trial for maintenance therapy were negative but this article spelled out just how negative they were. We sure won't be doing that. -Ev WEDNESDAY, Dec. 3 (HealthDay News) -- Maintenance therapy using low-dose peginterferon doesn't help patients with advanced chronic hepatitis C who haven't responded to an initial round of treatment, new research suggests.
Avatar f tn My doctors were against maintenance chemo for me, even though after all my treatments I still had some residual cancer implants. They said there is no evidence that maintenance chemo extends the remissions. I feel like without trying more chemo I am not trying hard enough to beat the disease, but my onc and my gyn/onc agree. I like to be more proactive. I know there are several others here that have had or are having maintenance chemo. Hopefully they can give you some answers.
Avatar m tn These findings make a strong case for considering low-dose peginterferon alfa-2b as a maintenance therapy in patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension who have failed hepatitis C eradication therapy," said principal investigator Nezam Afdhal, M.D., Chief of Hepatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Avatar m tn She was seen by doctor suggested to wait until she is 3 months and stay under supervision and there is 90% for the hole to close until then. prescribed Lasix(centoxin),Lanoxin (frusin) And KT for her to start immediately. I know that Lasix has some side efects as to pottasium loss and water loss, is it dangerous for a newborn to be taking these medications . I am really worried for my baby.Is it safe to use the medication? Is it recomended to go for surgery?? and when?
Avatar n tn 50, T3 uptake 33, TSH 0.968, which all fall into the normal range. Others who have been to an endo say that those tests mean nothing, and I need to go to a specialist, especially since the thyroid and autoimmune run in my family. I am reluctant to begin the rollercoaster ride of "what is wrong with me?", especially after having been diagnosed with Wegener's Granulomatosis in '93, and fighting tooth and nail for 5 years to have it disproved, which it was.
Avatar m tn but i been on and off that shot for years. i spotted before, my breast have never felt like this. any suggestion?
Avatar m tn My post spoke to the many people who were deterred by the early findings of the HALT-C trials, and decided to wait for any permutation of maintenance or suppressive therapy. Not only can the maintenance therapy possibly work but by treating an even better outcome may be attained than expected. (I think my friend will SVR) Yes..... I'm sure that you were not trying to be dismissive when in 2 posts you wonder if I had read the article.
Avatar f tn Low-dose peginterferon alfa maintenance therapy was another promising potential strategy for reducing liver disease progression in patients with a prior nonresponse to peginterferon alfa/ribavirin.[38] With regard to this strategy, final data from the Hepatitis C Antiviral Long-term Treatment Against Cirrhosis (HALT-C) were presented in Boston (Capsule Summary).
Avatar n tn Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) means that from time to time your heart beats very fast for a reason other than exercise, high fever, or stress. Types of SVT include: Atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT). Atrioventricular reciprocating tachycardia (AVRT), including Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. During an episode of SVT, the heart’s electrical system doesn't work right, causing the heart to beat very fast.
1327431 tn?1327072104 They should give you the range for FT4 when you call for test results. You need to know the position in the range, not just the result. If possible, always get a copy of the lab report and write on there how you were feeling and your med dosage at the time. These become very valuable for future reference. Also, I would lean on them hard to do the FT3 test. Explain that you are aware of the possibility of inadequate conversion of T4 to T3 and want to make sure of your FT3 level.
Avatar f tn The heart gets enlarged from the over workload and due to high blood pressure. EF of 46% is much better than what you had at 20%, but normal is far higher. You still should get enough rest and not overwork yourself. I would definitely try to avoid any stressful environment if you can. Make sure that you are taking your medications as prescribed by your doctor. The medications really helps and are best.
Avatar n tn Beta blockers like metoprolol and ACE inhibitors like benazepril have been been shown to be of value in patients with congestive heart failure as well as for hypertension. Simvastatin is of value for patients with both diabetes and heart disease. Talk to your doctor and changes can be made to minimize the side effects.
