Hello! I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. The normal blood glucose ranges for anyone, child or not are between 80 and 120. Some doctors will say 70-110, but it's all in the same range. Now, that's the target, but depending on what is eaten for example, a healthy person's blood glucose can rise temporarily up close to 200. As long as the values return to normal after a couple hours, all is well.

I guess the office worker got upset when my sister was trying to explain to her that a 480 reading is cause for concern. At this point, I got involved and checked her blood glucose levels. The meter was reading Hi, which indicates a reading of above 600. This was this afternoon. I called her primary care physician's office and explained what was happening. She didn't seem to care much and stated that there were no available appointments.

I meant that once the caloric intake is reduced and the body adjusts, that over a short period of time, the blood glucose levels would probably drop to within normal levels, assuming the individual is otherwise healthy and has normally functioning organs.

It really is imperative that she have a true lab test done to see if there really is a blood sugar problem. She could do a glucose test in the lab to compare the number with the number that the lab gets if she thinks that her machine is in error. Which doesn't seem likely to me since your husband's result was normal and significantly lower than hers. Herbs of any sort should not be causing this high reading.
If she is diabetic, herbal remedies alone will not solve her problem.
I worked in medical labs for years and it was quite typical to see glucose values over 100 when patients were given a glucose tolerance test. The normal values in our lab at that time were 80-120 mg/dL, but fasting glucose levels over 100 mg/dL typically resulted in follow-up testing for the patient.
The section of the lab I worked (Clinical Chemistry) didn't do the HbA1c test. It might've been done in a different section or it may not have been available yet back then.
In my 36 years with diabetes, I have noticed that sometimes I can FEEL the drop in glucose before my glucose levels get below normal. The symptoms that you describe can happen even when the actual number is normal at the time. In my case, when this happens it ALWAYS means that my glucose is on the way down towards hypoglycemia even if when i test it, my glucose is normal. If I test again in a half hour (and do not eat or drink any carbohydrates), the glucose will be low.
