Why do I see questions that mention the generation level of a test? What does that mean? SHould i be concerned if my tests arent of a particular generation?

Hi, I have been reading this (and other) forums and I could not figure out one issue. I'd like to be tested for HIV, but I am waiting the window period. Most experts say that modern HIV tests are much more sensitive than the previous ones, that is why the window period would be shorter nowadays. However, oraquick (only as a example) is perhaps one the most common test in US (free cost - I don't have health insurance). But as far as I know it is only 2nd generation.

Can anyone please tell me what generation of HIV test the Chembio HIV1/2 STAT-PAK is? Thanks!!!! P.S I'm doing TONS better!

t manufacture 2nd Generation ELISA tests anymore. They manufacture 3rd and 4th generation tests. When they did manufacture 2nd generation ELISA tests they only tested for HIV1.

Just can anybody tell me which generation perform in public health departments i been testing dear using UNIGOLD rapeed test and conform whit EIA ,but i steel not now which generation,i lot of info about shorter window period if you use late generation Ellissa ,but i just whanna now how quik can detect antybody older generation ofEllisa test.

Tridot HIV test is 3rd generation Tridot HIV + Ag is a 4th generation Had the poster asked Tridot + Ag test it would have been fourth generation but just a Tridot HIV test is 3rd generation.

Thanks, by your comments, i ask you understand me , i 'm still worried. the point is that i 'm not sure the generation of my elisa test. I ask lab and they said me that the test they performed to me it was 3rd generation but i don't trust a lot them , the reason is that i live in Venezuela and i don't belive that for a lab of resources not very high they could have this expensive technology ( 3rd generation test) .
