I know I'm probably a little late, but I just saw your post. I am a 40 year urology patient. Trust me...there's an underlying cause! Your best bet would be to see a good Urologist. As far as how long you might have to treat this...well, it depends on the cause. Some bladder issues may be quickly resolvable, some are not, but all but the very, very worst can be managed. I too have to take Nitrofurantoin Macrocrystals after intercourse as a prophylactic.
I've been told I have a UTI and was given Macrobid/Nitrofurantoin. I have taken 3 tablets but out of curiosity I looked them up on the internet and it said some women have lost their babies days after taking the tablets.
Has anyone taken these and had a healthy pregnancy?!
has anyone taken nitrofurantoin mono/Mac 100mg for a uti? if so what the outcome and was your baby Ok afterwards?
I’ve been suffering from IC for 5 years now and for some odd reason Nitrofurantoin/Macrobid seems to work well for me, even when my urine culture comes back negative. I take it (100 mg X 2 for 10 days) when my IC flares and within a few days the symptoms are essentially gone. They often come back 3-5 months later, but at least it works temporarily.
My doctors have no idea why this medication works, but it’s been working pretty consistently for the past 3-4 years now.
I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?
Hence, doctor prescribed some medicines like Uribid with nitrofurantoin in it, Prothiaden M, Montemac FX for allergy and Hifenac-P for fever and also Cital syrup for UTI. My mother continued the course for one week, now fever and tiredness have decreased, but the burning sensation continues. Is this mixture of tablets fine, or any other suggestion or recommendations for treating this urinary tract infection of K.Oxytoca.
9 days ago Nitrofurantoin (200g a day for 5 days) was taken and daily birth control (Qlaira). Both are known to decrease levels of haptoglobin but nothing about complete depletion.
Could this be an extended effect from Nitrofurantoin? When should the test be repeated ?
A couple of weeks later I developed a urinary tract infection. Urologist prescribed nitrofurantoin for the infection. Immediatedly after starting the antibiotic my ears gradually starting feeling clogged. Now, two weeks later, they are both very clogged (no wax buildup) and I can barely hear. Logic tells me the ear clogging is somehow connected to the nitrofurantoin. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? Will this clogging go away by itself?

My gyne suggested that I have a UTI. I had no symptoms thereof. I was put on nitrofurantoin for 7days. I finished the course and now 3 days after I finished the antibiotics I tested my urine and the leukocytes/white blood cells are still very high.
What other infections/circumstances can cause this? I am very concerned as I only can reach my Dr. on Monday.
I took nitrofurantoin for a UTI infection and finished my course on Tuesday morning. Yesterday (Friday), I noticed what appears to be hives (small raised bumps with no redness, they didn’t itch) on my legs. I counted 13 - primarily on my thighs and shins. They appear to be gone today, but after I took my puppy for a walk this morning, I noticed small red bumps on my feet and they itched. Is this an allergic reaction to the antibiotics?
I have been taking ciprobid, doxyl and nitrofurantoin for a month now. but still the is no change. I still have some pains. I was diagnosed with an UTI, in the urine and blood test the was no Chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis in short no STI. my doctor told me that you can't take that antibiotic while you are pregnant. It's not a safe drug for the baby. I have had numerous UTI's over the last year and she told me that if I am pregnant and I get a UTI they have to find a different antibiotic that is safe to take. I just saw the doctor on Wed.
Diagnosed with uti 9/17 treated with nitrofurantoin. After one week symptoms persisted so was given ciprofloxacin. After one week symptoms persisted again so another culture was done and diagnosed with staph infection. Treated with amoxicillin but after one week symptoms still persist. Another culture done and came back contaminated was treated with metronidazole. Now done with prescription and systems still persist. Going to call doctor to see if another analysis/culture.
I want to know the name of the meds the doctor gave you for a UTI and how weeks were you ?
I live in Tennessee. My job post is actually a sitting down position except for rounds I have to make every hour... Outside. I thought about working at a call center, think I'll look into that. I am also concerned about job security switching jobs but I will likely keep my current job but I WILL need a part time one also so that I'm not living check to check. Thanks for all the suggestions!
