In my experience, however, they simply do not work. In other words, no flush, no effect. The correct dose of niacin depends on what abnormality you and your doctor are trying to correct. The memory loss was so bad, I sold my veterinary practice and retired BEFORE the lawsuit. I ran for exercise until I wore out my left knee, now I walk. Again, these labs are before any medication.

I've just learned that Niacin is not effective until I get to the 2000mg to 3000mg and I have increased to 1000mg and pending my doctors approval plan to take more. Avatar m tn Call it mind over matter or whatever but I started taking Niacin and inositol last week. I have felt a steady improvement in my mood and anxiety levels each day. I have been taking a B Complex, 100 mg everyday for the past 2 months. The Niacin I take is 400 mg so that is a 500 mg/day dose. Yesterday I bumped up to 400 mg in the AM and 400 at night. There is definely an improvement that I feel. i am not 100% yet but I feel better than I did a week ago.
Avatar f tn You may find that simply changing your diet to include lower fat meats, complex carbohydrates, and at least 5 fruits and veggies a day, coupled with a good healthy exercise plan will help a great deal. Diet and exercise may not be the complete answer, though. Some hyperlipidemias respond to diet and exercise, many do not.
Avatar f tn you need to see a nutritionist for a diet plan to try to control it through diet and exercise (pretty much eat a lot of whole grains and vegetables and cut WAAAAY back on red meat and cut out trans fat as completely as possible). The Neutrophils and Lymphs are part of the WBC differential...I would like to see that ENTIRE differential and the total WBC count. That said, your Neutrophils look a tad low while the Lymphocytes are high which indicates some type of infection.
Avatar n tn Try Niacin to raise your HDL and keep your trigs nice and low. Nuts would also help but Niacin for sure can improve that number..otherwise you have good numbers. I am a 44 year old male and take 2000mg of Niaspan every day and my HDL is up from 29 to 43..my LDL is down to 66 and my trigs are 82. Niacin plus a good diet can give you good numbers.
Avatar m tn I was told to avoid niacin, excess vitamin C, along with marijuana and alcohol by my liver clinic. Risk and the way liver handles excess niacin outweighed benefit though certainly getting adequate amounts by use of a NO iron multiple vitamin would be fine. Statins have so many contraindications they will probably never pass muster for liver patients.

Avatar f tn I am trying this special scale now that tells me my bone density, water and muscle level. The number are 40% for fat, which is strange, 35% and 35% for water and muscle, and bone is 4%.
Avatar m tn It is best to eat lots of fruits and non-starchy green veggies, go slow on fats, eat carbohydrates in moderation and increase your protein intake (lean cuts, whites of eggs etc). Drink plenty of water and non fattening fluids such as clear soups etc. Look for hidden calories in salads and soups and avoid them (eg: cheese, butter, dressings etc). Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn I've never been able to lose weight without exercise, but many people do. Cutting simple carbs, such as those found in sugar, products made with white flour, white rice, most processed foods will go a long way toward helping you lose weight. Center your meals around veggies, high quality/low fat protein, such as lean meats, low/no fat dairy, eggs, nuts, seeds, whole grains etc. Most important is to make water your beverage of choice. Even diet sodas will not help you lose weight.

Avatar n tn I now take my meds which are Tricor and Pravastatin. But in addition to those I take 500mg of Niacin in the morning and again in the evening. He needs to get that number down because I have had multiple heart attacks from the plaque in my blood. And that comes from the high levels of triglycerides in the blood. That is the fat that causes the plaque to form. The Niacin is a good supplement in treating this.
Avatar n tn I am bipolar and have taken niacin for years....I took 500mg of niacin the reagular kind not the no flush kind It did cause me to have a niacin flush (which is typical)...it has never caused me trouble with mainia only made me flush wich eased anxiety and caused me to be tired afterwards...It might affect others diffently though. Nician is a B vitamin and B vitmins can cause you to more energetic you shouldn't take them in excess esp if you have bipolar....
Avatar m tn I also consider more to be better as far as the water-soluble vitamins go (the Bs, vitamin C, and some others are water-soluble, while A, D, E, and K are fat soluble). 'Bear in mind that the RDI (recommended daily intake), DV (daily value), or whatever, is calculated to be the dose that keeps you from overtly DYING of a nutrient deficiency. 'I believe that the state of optimal health is unattainable at doses approximating our RDIs.
Avatar f tn if you can try the slo release formula and make sure you take with food.. I use and research a lot of alternate treatments.. Niacin has the propensity to flare up causing those exacerbated feelings also your scalp may feel like its on fire too.. You should be ok and if it doesn't go away seek medical treatment ..
Avatar f tn Magnesium 750mg, fish pills about 8 of them daily, Niacin about 1grm..........fish pills and Niacin along with about 40 minutes of walking every day will decrease your blood triglicerides down to below 150, and increase your HDL levels to desired levels while DECREASING blood pressure, stress, blood sugar, weight, etc.............If you are able to tolerate Garlic like I can now, then you will get back to near normal. BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO STAY WITH THIS AND NOT STRAY.
