Avatar n tn Are there other symptoms that you are experiencing? Niacin, or vitamin B3, is a powerful mobilizer of both fat and the fat-soluble toxins. Avatar m tn Niacin is important for the conversion of carbohydrates, protein and fat into energy! Adults need about 16 milligrams a day. Almonds, Niacin Content: 1 oz, 1 mg Daily Value: 6%. Eat them right before you go the gym. Their high in L-arginine that can actually boost your carb and fat burn during your workout. Navy Beans, Niacin: 1/2 cup, 1.5 mg Daily Value: 9%. Avatar m tn “No-flush” niacin preparations, such as inositol hexaniacinate and nicotinamide, are widely sold as niacin alternatives that do not cause hot flushes. In my experience, however, they simply do not work. In other words, no flush, no effect. The correct dose of niacin depends on what abnormality you and your doctor are trying to correct. To raise HDL and correct small LDL, a dose of 750-1000 mg a day usually provides full benefit.
Avatar m tn s as well, I do not smoke, and my body fat Percentage is 12%. I Do Not do any Drugs(steroids), and I eat in moderation. I've just learned that Niacin is not effective until I get to the 2000mg to 3000mg and I have increased to 1000mg and pending my doctors approval plan to take more. I'm also Considering to servings of almonds per day Accounting for 60% of my DV of Fat. Am I doing anything wrong? Any Suggestions?
1495437 tn?1288798915 I would recommend 100mg of Niacin along with Bromelin (a pineapple extract that dissolves blood clots and sometimes red spots) and then lots of antioxidants. Niacin has some interesting bonding properties to antioxidants and their release, and if you're going to increase circulation, you want to make sure what you're circulating are things that will help your body and your skin.
Avatar m tn Call it mind over matter or whatever but I started taking Niacin and inositol last week. I have felt a steady improvement in my mood and anxiety levels each day. I have been taking a B Complex, 100 mg everyday for the past 2 months. The Niacin I take is 400 mg so that is a 500 mg/day dose. Yesterday I bumped up to 400 mg in the AM and 400 at night. There is definely an improvement that I feel. i am not 100% yet but I feel better than I did a week ago.
Avatar m tn Having Chromium and Niacin listed as separate ingredients would not be the same as Chromium Picolinate. Separately, (Niacin would be niacin and Chromium would be Chromium plus one of the chelators). It can get very confusing, but with all of that said, per the National Institute of Health "...given the limited data on chromium absorption in humans, it is not clear which forms are best to take.
802198 tn?1237831666 It, the burning, has moved up my leg and is now most sensitive around my inner knee area and is also radiating up into my gluts and hip region. I get this from time to time. Not sure if it is stress-related but it sure hurts. I do nothing for it because I really don't know what it is. Episodes last from 1-10 days or so and eventually it diminishes.
Avatar n tn Try Niacin to raise your HDL and keep your trigs nice and low. Nuts would also help but Niacin for sure can improve that number..otherwise you have good numbers. I am a 44 year old male and take 2000mg of Niaspan every day and my HDL is up from 29 to 43..my LDL is down to 66 and my trigs are 82. Niacin plus a good diet can give you good numbers.
736575 tn?1288902558 She is also on BP medication and other meds I do not know of at the moment. She is complaining of a burning sensation in her skin...all over her body. Has anyone had this problem or know of anyone who has? She thinks it is the triglyceride medication because it started about 2 days after she started taking it.
Avatar n tn My 3rd toe is numb and when I touch it I feel a burning sensation. It's been like this for weeks. Also just this morning in my right hand my index, middle, and ring fingers including my thumb are numb and tingle when I touch the tips but burn when I touch lower than the tips. My pinky is fine though oddly. Will this ever go away and what might be the cause?
Avatar n tn I now take my meds which are Tricor and Pravastatin. But in addition to those I take 500mg of Niacin in the morning and again in the evening. He needs to get that number down because I have had multiple heart attacks from the plaque in my blood. And that comes from the high levels of triglycerides in the blood. That is the fat that causes the plaque to form. The Niacin is a good supplement in treating this.
Avatar n tn I am bipolar and have taken niacin for years....I took 500mg of niacin the reagular kind not the no flush kind It did cause me to have a niacin flush (which is typical)...it has never caused me trouble with mainia only made me flush wich eased anxiety and caused me to be tired afterwards...It might affect others diffently though. Nician is a B vitamin and B vitmins can cause you to more energetic you shouldn't take them in excess esp if you have bipolar....
Avatar f tn if you can try the slo release formula and make sure you take with food.. I use and research a lot of alternate treatments.. Niacin has the propensity to flare up causing those exacerbated feelings also your scalp may feel like its on fire too.. You should be ok and if it doesn't go away seek medical treatment ..
345079 tn?1299202476 It causes major flushing, itching, burning of the skin. I felt horrible and started to panic pretty badly. Never took it again. I saw my doctor yesterday and she told me I have to take it so she prescribed Niapan which is basically the same thing but in an extended release. However it still states the same side effects (flushing, burning, heart pounding, etc) it says to take at bedtime in hopes you will be asleep when the flushing occurs but it takes me along time to fall asleep.
237053 tn?1258828426 Yes, as we speak Skary, my face and arms are burning. I experience a few times burning from my forehead down my body. It was so hot and slightly visible that at first. All I could do was use ice and water in a bowl and a large hand towel and blot my body to try to cool it. What worked eventually was straight 100% aloe vera gel. TJ, it is also good to hear someone else on here say what I have been saying, We do suffer from our whole neurological system being damaged.
Avatar m tn FYI have been to the doctor, had chest x-ray (normal) had sonogram on right armpit and breast area (normal) and blood work (CBC and PSA and both normal). Back to Doctor next week for more specific blood test and exam.
Avatar m tn I was told to avoid niacin, excess vitamin C, along with marijuana and alcohol by my liver clinic. Risk and the way liver handles excess niacin outweighed benefit though certainly getting adequate amounts by use of a NO iron multiple vitamin would be fine. Statins have so many contraindications they will probably never pass muster for liver patients.
Avatar m tn t have enough self control to lose any weight. I had muscle pain and memory loss with statins, flushing and finally facial swelling with niacin supplements. The memory loss was so bad, I sold my veterinary practice and retired BEFORE the lawsuit. I ran for exercise until I wore out my left knee, now I walk. Again, these labs are before any medication.

479244 tn?1271563659 (uh oh) Anyway, I checked and found that someone with liver disease (I have mild inflamation and no fibrosis) should not take over 35 mgs. of niacin per day. This stuff I bought at the drug store has 25 mgs. of niacin. Is is all they had , but I am thinking about returning it. IYO - is it safe for me to take this or should I return and look for plain ol B12 liquid.
