Nexium ulcer treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium ulcer treatment

nexium

Avatar f tn I wouldn't take Nexium either without a diagnosis. Nexium suppresses stomach acid, so eventually your stomach will have to make more in order to digest protein and minerals. It becomes an ongoing chronic race between medication and the body's need to digest. But Nexium isn't for ulcers -- for an ulcer, they would give a potent antibiotic to kill the h. pylori. Nexium is for things such as IBS and GERD. The poster really needs a diagnosis in order to plan the next move.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Zollinger ellison syndrome. I had one small ulcer and I continued to loose weight and vomit a lot. I got scoped again and in uder a year I had 6 larger ulcers. I had a gastrin level done and it came back a little higher then 1000 so thats what diagnosed me.
Avatar n tn When it happened again after few years they put me on Nexium permanently and then even on Nexium I started getting pains for the past 8-9months and they did a series of tests again and couldn't find anything. Then we went to another GI specialist and he stopped my Nexium and then I had GI bleeding again. It is very rare to have a recurrent bleeding episode without any apparent cause except excessive acid. Do you have any explanation and remedy for this condition?
439522 tn?1214951189 Hi I noticed you have been on nexium for a few years can u tell me how long it takes before nexium kicks in. I have been taking them for about 10 weeks Recently diagnosed barratts oesophagus gastritis hiatus hernia oesophageal ulcer.
Avatar f tn I had a scope done and it showed severe gastritis with a small ulcer. I was put on nexium results for H. Pylori were negative. Symptoms improved but only for a couple of weeks. Once again I am vomiting and no appetite. I have lost over 30lbs without trying. 6 months after the first scope I just had another one done. This showed that in less then 6 months I now have 6 large ulcers, but none in the duodenum. Biopsies were negative once again for H. pylori and celiac disease.
Avatar f tn I have had an upper quadrant ultrasound - normal with no gallstones, blood work - all normal and a breath test to see if it was an ulcer - negative. I was put on Nexium OTC for 14 days. The pain went away on days 12 and 13, came back on 14, but then was gone for about 5 days after the 14 day trial. Now it is back daily and my doctor said some people have to take Nexium daily but will not explain to me the underlying issue.
Avatar n tn Obviously, increased gastric acidity or reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus can cause discomfort and changes to the lining of the esophagus. Whether an ulcer has formed or not needs to be assessed during the endoscopy. At the same time, your physician will be able to examine the lining of the stomach and esophagus for any other concerns. The important thing is that you are getting examined. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn mm not always.. well normally if you drink quite a bit you can develop fatty liver or pancreatitis (even small amounts of asprin can set it off). Liver tests would be elevated and accurate but testing for the pancrease is only accurate during the acute phase but over time (let's say this is chronic weeks and months long) then the testing is not as accurate because the pancrease gets used to not functioning 100% and elevated enzymes are not caught in blood tests.
Avatar m tn put me on a high dosage of antibiotics a month later and I am on Nexium 40mg once a day. It has been 6 months and I still have some hunger type pains and nausea after I eat. A bit better but not any worse. No vomiting / high temps / blood in stool. I do have yellow stools which I assume are caused by all the tums and nexium I am taking. I have GI appointment at the end of the month. Is it possible to have a stomach ulcer for 6 months?
Avatar n tn Im on nexuim for 5 years constantlynow but the symtoms afterremoving of ulcer dont change Bail and acidreflux almost every day please help Can this drug cause weight gain? How long is it safe to continue drinkng nexuim?
264121 tn?1313029456 On the ulcer, there is a simple blood test that will confirm if the ulcer is caused by h. pylori (heliobactr). If it is, the treatment course is pretty simple and usually effective. A round (or 2) of antibiotics with an acid blocker. After than you may want to continue the acid blocker or not. I had one about 10 years ago and have never had subsequent problems except when taking medicatioins that upset the stoache or cause bleeding (aspirin, NSAIDS, etc.).
1213000 tn?1280463161 53 years old. Had two angioplastsy procedures over the last three weeks. Result - 6 drug-eluting stents, 4 in the LAD, 1 in the RCA and one in the Ramus and some angioplastcy in some of the smaller vessels. Very fortunate that there appears to never have been a heart attack. Here's the issue: I have osteoarthritis in the knees and neck and some nerve pain that has plagued me since a bout with Bells Palsy in the right front portion of the neck.
Avatar m tn I was wondering if anyone has ever tried Nexium (for over acid production). I infrequently have stomach pain, pop a nexium, and its like a magic bullet. Not only cures the pain, but I have the best dreams and generally well being feeling. I was thinking that the stress of life leads to acid production and that the nexium fixes (tricks) the brain into thinking more positive thoughts or whatever, thereby stopping the cycle of stress and acid production. Anyway, it really works well for me.

Avatar f tn i am 17 years old and i have had acid reflux for all my life and i used to take nexium for it. but lately i have been getting more than the usual nausea. lately especially i have been getting a sharp shooting pain in my stomach, it feels almost like a stabbing pain. It lasts for only about 30 minutes...but while i have the pain i always get really dizzy and i cannot see what is in front of me. What does this mean?
Avatar f tn I'd go with the stomach ulcer or with gerd. I've had what I believe is gerd the past few days. Last night in particular it was extremely painful and I got limited sleep. I too have been getting pain when eating and drinking and activity has been bringing on the pain too. I guess that is more when I am bending over. If you're lying down to relax and experience pain then that would fit with acid reflux. I put the pain down to the acid.
Avatar n tn My 19 year old daughter has just been diagnosed wtih an esophogeal ulcer. She was prescribed 40mg of Protonix once a day. She has been taking this medication for one week, and has been experiencing dizziness and nausea. She weighs about 120 lbs. I looked online, and it appears that these are side effects that some patients experience. My question is: would Nexium pose the same problems for her?
Avatar n tn I am having another episode and am extremely nauseous, have slowed bowel movements, acid reflux and pain above the belly button. My doctor suspects an ulcer flaring up and has given me nexium to treat. I will see her in a week. Nexium is not having much effect. What is a differential diagnosis and what test can I have to deny or confirm ulcers? Is it possible to have multiple ulcers? I also suffer from tremors and am not on any medication except for nexium.
Avatar f tn I may have gastritis or a stomach ulcer and the gastroenterologist I saw suggested that I try taking Nexium to see if it relieves my symptoms (I have heart palpitations that get worse shortly after eating, with no heart abnormalities). I had upper stomach pain a few weeks before the palpitations started and was instructed (by another specialist, a nurse) to take the Nexium but I never finished the bottle since the pain went away.
Avatar f tn She was to begin treatment with Avastin+Cytoxan, however a gastroscope revealed an ulcer in her duodenum and her doctor is reluctant to go forward with the Avastin. The doctor is now contemplating Taxol + Iressa. (My mother's tumor has not been tested for EGFR) Do you have any thoughts pertaining to this combo? Would it be more useful to use Abraxane since my mother has already seen taxol?
1201626 tn?1265421975 I have a stomach ulcer with H-Pylori and i want to know what i can and cannot eat? everything i try seems to irritate my stomach. Avatar f tn I'm 18, and I've never had any problems with indigestion before. Then this week, I started having severe burning in my throat and stomach after I ate, and drank, even if I was just drinking water. At first I tried just drinking some apple cider vinegar in water, since I read it was a natural cure for it, and it did help, for a few hours after a meal. The burning came back later, though, at night, too. The past 3 days were horrible.
