Nexium for peptic ulcer

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium for peptic ulcer

nexium

Avatar f tn I wouldn't take Nexium either without a diagnosis. Nexium suppresses stomach acid, so eventually your stomach will have to make more in order to digest protein and minerals. It becomes an ongoing chronic race between medication and the body's need to digest. But Nexium isn't for ulcers -- for an ulcer, they would give a potent antibiotic to kill the h. pylori. Nexium is for things such as IBS and GERD. The poster really needs a diagnosis in order to plan the next move.
Avatar f tn org/diseases-conditions/peptic-ulcer/symptoms-causes/syc-20354223. I suffered my first ulcer for several months before it was found on endoscopy and then I drank a chalky liquid for two days and felt better. So, it can be a quick recovery if this is the situation for you. Do you take a lot of nsaids by the way?
Avatar m tn I recommend you ask your physician to be tested for peptic ulcer disease (ulcer) if your symptoms continue despite 4-8weeks of twice daily PPI therapy. In summary, I recommend: 1.Talk to your physician/gastroentertologist about once or twice daily Nexium therapy for 4 to 8 weeks 2.Talk to your physician about surgical options for GERD, to include antireflux surgery 3.Talk to your physician about testing for peptic ulcer disease with an endoscopy if medication fails for 4 to 8 weeks.
Avatar f tn Do not self prescribe and I would suggest you to follow up with a gastroenterologist for a proper diagnosis and for titration of the dosage for you. Take care!

20830596 tn?1554933789 I did the usual things for an ulcer (careful with food, no alcohol or soda, no smoking, etc.), but healing that was awful. I went to a gastroenterologist who didn't seem surprised at the meds causing these issues, but she also didn't really have any ideas other than figuring out which medication I could tolerate the best. I'm worried that I might have another ulcer, so I was wondering if anyone had better luck with certain stomach medications or any other ideas in general.
Avatar f tn In reviewing my medical records from my gastroenterologist it seems they keep bouncing between a diagnoses of "non ulcer dyspepsia" and "peptic ulcer disease". The non ulcer dyspepsia is a fancy term for ulcer like stomach pain without an ulcer and no clear cause. Then I occasionally do show up with peptic ulcers, which I thought were from accidentally taking a migraine medication that had aspirin in it...but I've never been checked for the pylori bacteria.
Avatar n tn The second time the doctor(a dif. one) who was much nicer, told me I had a peptic ulcer, and prescribed nexium, which I took for a year but it didn't help very much so I stopped taking it. I wrote to the forum hoping to get a different answer other than a) menstruation or b)peptic ulcer. Also I'm living abroad at the moment and would rather not have any serious procedures done here. however, I am glad to have made you feel better about your reflux.
Avatar f tn I did not supplement my Ibuprofen ingestion with an acid reducer (Pepcid, Nexium) and after 4 months developed one peptic, esophageal ulcer and several erosions (ulcer precursors) in my upper GI. My GI doctor prescribed Nexium twice a day and is confident the GERD is NSAID induced and that my lesions will be healed in 12 weeks.
1373488 tn?1325148631 Peptic Ulcer and was adviced Nexium 40 mgs 2 times dly, H,Pylori was negative. On June 2009 had another Gstrascopy, Diag: Chronic Atrophic Gastritis, was adviced to continue Nexium 20mgs dly, H,pylori was negative but after a few days it came darker, Dr was informed but didn`t give me ABs. 20830596 tn?1554933789 I thought the issue could have been that they were making my medications not absorb properly, but it looks like these meds actually cause temporary changes in the brain for some people. I did the usual things for an ulcer (careful with food, no alcohol or soda, no smoking, etc.), but healing that was awful.
Avatar f tn about two years ago I had a peptic ulcer. had an endoscopy and that is when they found it. I took previcid for a while and it went away. I fely good for a long time. Now about two months ago I vomited in the middle of the night. The next day I felt the same pain I had when I had the ulcer. I went back on my previcid and it didn't go away. I went to the doctors. Had some blood work done. Lipase is elevated. 419.
Avatar f tn I need help for my cousin she has a peptic ulcer I gave her two geltazine but still she is suffering pain what should I do to make her better?
Avatar f tn I had peptic ulcer for about 6 years until recently after it bled, I did an endoscopy and they said the ulcer was gone. I was placed on nexium and motilium for 2 months which I didn't use since they said everything was normal . Have always heartburn like everyday but recently it has become terrible radiates to my throat, nose, chest and even my left arm. It's really giving me hell I sleep and wake up in it and am very tired most of the time. I didn't know acid reflux could be this bad.
Avatar m tn Hi, Functional dyspepsia, gastroparesis, peptic ulcer disease, subconscious swallowing of air while eating and drinking, eating gas forming food items and drinking carbonated beverages all can cause increased belching.
Avatar n tn Where are the pains exactly? I'm having intense stomach pains from the top of my naval to the top of my stomach and they are refrerring it to GERD (Acid Reflux Disease). I'd go see your GI and see if they can do an upper endoscopy on you. I'm going in on the 3rd to for one to see if I have GERD or a peptic ulcer. Drink a lot of water and a very bland diet (toast with peanut butter).
Avatar m tn A peptic ulcer is usually sores on the inside of your stomach or small intestines. This is what you are talking about? Or do you have sores on your mouth? Either way, neither is a risk for HIV transmission. Kissing is not a way that people get HIV. HIV in adults is transmitted by penetrating, unprotected vaginal or anal sex or sharing IV drug needles. That is really it. Saliva and air inactivate the virus so kissing is not a means of transmission.
1213000 tn?1280463161 53 years old. Had two angioplastsy procedures over the last three weeks. Result - 6 drug-eluting stents, 4 in the LAD, 1 in the RCA and one in the Ramus and some angioplastcy in some of the smaller vessels. Very fortunate that there appears to never have been a heart attack. Here's the issue: I have osteoarthritis in the knees and neck and some nerve pain that has plagued me since a bout with Bells Palsy in the right front portion of the neck.
3099520 tn?1341194531 This has been happening for the past few days, and last week i had constant nausea. What could this be, peptic ulcer? gastrointestinal problem? With my anxiety problem, these symptoms usually trigger a mild panic attack, so any answers would really help, thank you!
Avatar f tn Hi, dyspepsia is a vague discomfort in the upper abdomen or chest that may be described as gas,a feeling of fullness, gnawing,or burning. This can occur with peptic ulcer disease. Peptic ulcer pain is usually a burning pain. They commonly occur in the stomach and duodenum. Stomach ulcers cause pain on eating and duodenal ulcers cause pain on fasting (2-3 hrs after eating). Peptic ulcers are eroded areas in the lining of the digestive tract usually in the stomach and duodenum.
Avatar m tn This could indeed be due to acid peptic disorders such as peptic ulcer or GERD. Reflux usually presents with retrosternal burning discomfort, acid regurgitation and symptoms often occur after meals. While peptic ulcer presents with pain centered in the upper abdomen or discomfort characterized by fullness, bloating, distention, or nausea. Symptoms may be present before or after a meal depending on the location of the ulcer.

Avatar m tn Figuring it to be exhaustion I put up with it for a week. When the symptoms persisted I called the doc. His review was a peptic ulcer and prescribed 30mg of Prevacid along with 1g of Amoxil and Biaxin (not sure of amount). Since then, I have nausea in the morning upon waking even after eating and taking the pills. In the afternoon I start to cough and get a taste of mucus or bile. I am too young to have these problems. Please help or advise anyway you can.
Avatar f tn How were you diagnosed w peptic ulcer would be my first question. Did you have a H. Pylori blood test? If that is positive the treatment is 2 antibiotics and bismuth for 2 weeks. It is a bacteria that can penetrate the thick mucus lining in the stomach and causes ulcers. Protonix can cause constipation. I recently failed both Nexium and Protonix due to side effects. But the constipation was terrible despite everything I threw at it.
Avatar f tn For almost 10 years since the age of 16 I have been experiencing heartburn type symptoms. I've had numerous doctors tell me it could be heartburn, hiatal hernia, and/or a peptic ulcer. I have an appointment for an endoscopy coming up to figure out the exact cause. I've been prescribed omeprazole 20mg which does not even seem to make any kind of dent in relieving symptoms as well as over the counter medications.
1449501 tn?1284791872 Abdominal pain is seen in around 2-4 % patients but the cause of such pain is not clear. In rare cases it is known to cause stenosing peptic ulcer and pyloroduodenal obstruction which can present as severe abdominal pain. You may have to undergo endoscopy to rule out peptic ulcer, gastritis etc. Take care and regards.
