You need stomach acid to absorb essential nutrients and kill off bacteria, fungi and parasites. Low stomach acid leads to fractures, bacterial/fungal infections, parasites, lowered immune system, systematic health decline, gastritis, stomach cancer, heart failure....

1274110 tn?1270792161 I am on plavix also and was taking nexium for gerd. My cardiologist told me to go off the nexium because the FDA has found that the nexium or any of the PPI's inhibits the plavix from working properly. I am now on pepcid instead of nexium. I am curious to find out if your cardio's had mentioned this to you. Protonix is in the same group of PPI's as nexium. Google plavix and ppi's or go on the FDA website. You will read a lot about the two meds. Just for your info.
Avatar m tn This led the FDA to ask Plavix maker Sanofi-Aventis to specifically study interactions between Plavix and Prilosec and between Plavix and Nexium, FDA safety evaluator Mary Ross Southworth, PharmD, said at a news conference. "We think there is a significant interaction," Southworth said. "In general, patients should avoid the combination of these two medications." But the FDA recommendation goes far beyond the two drugs studied.
Avatar m tn nexium, prilosec [which is omeprazole]), the FDA made a statement to take up to 14 days, 3 times a year. There is a good reason for this. You NEED stomach acid to absorb essential nutrients and kill of bacteria, fungi, parasites. Muscle pain could be due to magnesium deficiency for instance. This is the newest warning out by the FDA. A magnesium deficiency can occur within 3 months of taking a PPI.

You need stomach acid to absorb nutrients, kill off bacteria, fungi and parasites. My mother was on nexium for 5 years. 5 years too long and the side effects were numerous (some life threatening).
Avatar f tn The latest FDA warning for PPI's (nexium is a PPI) is hypomagnesemia - magnesium deficiency. "FDA notified healthcare professionals and the public that prescription proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drugs may cause low serum magnesium levels (hypomagnesemia) if taken for prolonged periods of time (in most cases, longer than one year).
Avatar m tn nexium, prilosec). That is in addition to the black box warning of increased risk of fracture to wrist, hip and spine. You need stomach acid to release nutrients from proteins, release instrinsic factor which binds to vitamin B12 for absorption in the gut, and kill off bacteria, parasites, and fungi. However, most cases of non obstructive acid reflux is due to INSUFFICENT stomach acid.

Avatar m tn Don’t drink everything that says “DRINK ME” Last week I read about a new “BLACK BOX” warning the FDA placed on the reflux drug Reglan and it got me thinking about Alice in Wonderland. Remember when Alice followed the white rabbit down the hole? She comes upon a tiny door, but she’s too big to squeeze through it to get to the beautiful garden on the other side. So she drinks a bottle labeled “DRINK ME.” She shrinks down small enough to fit through the door.

Every one of your symptoms is listed under nexium side effects. Number of nexium side effects listed: 9476. While all your symptoms may not be caused by nexium, stopping this drug and correcting nutritional deficiencies is the first step to health.
Avatar m tn ah, ok thanks Red.... I will do the test! I know I shouldn't but I took a nexium today.. it REALLY helps.. so if I have too low of a stomach acid what does that do acid wise, I guess I don't understand how having low stomach acid can cause hight stomach acid??
876503 tn?1240169553 These symptoms have continued to worsen, and a month ago I've started fainting and vomiting with little to no warning, and not during menstruation. I dropped and had a seizure in a parking lot in the middle of the day! I've had an ultrasound on my pelvis that came back normal. I also have very low blood pressure (usually in the 80/50 range, 56/30 when I faint) ... and I'm considering attributing everything to that? Was tested for low blood sugar and came back negative.
Avatar m tn My only question then, is as so many people take nexium or Prilosec why not just say nexium or Prilosec. The listed the specific names of many others. And as you said P-gp inducers but then you said omeprazole is a P-gp inhibitor so as I read that it is not the same thing. Yes as nexium inhibits gastric acid secretion I could see why one would think that but I don't see where they have said no to and in fact I did see on the drugs.
Avatar f tn Were you also aware this can also happen under the care of some Naturopathic doctors? The FDA has also proven to be untrustworthy. FYI-the FDA and drug companies are friends. This world is not what it once was; scandel after scandel. The government protects you at bare minimum and they will not confess when they are wrong or doing wrong to the American people. We are still free enough to put our trust in whom we desire; do your research.
Avatar f tn Lowering already low stomach acid is a ticket to ill health but then again so is taking any acid blockers long term. The FDA put out a warning in March 2010 to only take proton pump inhibitors (eg: prevacid, nexium, prilosec) to be take for a maximum of 14 days, 3 times a year. A very good reason for this warning as you need stomach acid to absorb essential nutrients and to kill off bacteria, fungi, and parasites.
1776879 tn?1314391127 This is a short term drug only. Maximum of 8 weeks however the FDA issued a statement to take PPI's (eg: Prilosec, Nexium) up to 14 days, 3 times a year. You need stomach acid to release nutrients from proteins, release instrinsic factor which binds to vitamin B12 for absorption in the gut, and kill off bacteria, parasites, and fungi. The side effects are in the thousands from nutrient deficiencies to poor bone health to heart failure.

1295419 tn?1276826472 PPI's are short term drugs only. FDA warning for PPI's - up to 14 days, 3 times a year. Stomach acid is essential for nutrient absorption and to kill off bacteria, fungi, and parasites. If you have obstructive issues, then you need to correct it. Obstructive conditions include obesity, and hiatus hernia. My mother had GERD and LPR severely for 5 years. Now she doesn't. Stopped PPI nexium and OTC gaviscon. Started digestive enzyme supplements and betaine HCI with pepsin supplements.
Avatar f tn Yea I was told every time you do an infusion you go in twice, spaced 2 weeks apart and then every 6 months but yes based on what your blood work shows it could be more often. Rituxan is not FDA approved for NMO as well. So Im feeling blessed that my insurance company finally approved it! I go in for my first infusion this week, the 16th and then the second one on the 30th! Hopefully wont have to do it again for another 6 months.
394687 tn?1290924440 I will try the Enbrel one more time tomorrow night and pray it doesn't floor me again - as I am already bed ridden. There is a box warning about virus infection re-occurrence in Rituxan but no contraindication. I need to research this - My Rheumy needs approval from my Hepatologist in order to start it.
Avatar m tn However, in applying these findings to the clinical setting, physicians should take into account that patients in these protocols were treated with weight-based ribavirin (800-1400 mg/day or 1000-1200 mg/day) rather than the standard fixed-dose ribavirin (800 mg/day) approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of patients with HCV genotypes 2 or 3. Personally, I like the idea of starting with higher riba knowing you can always cut back if it's not tollerated.
131817 tn?1209532911 I think he is a buddy of my GI and said he agreed with him that I go 48 weeks. He said anything else is NOT FDA approved and I will have a hard time getting approval for scripts. After awhile he said, he may consider letting me extend and said I was a very special patient. He said he has never heard anyone WANT to extend. I said I don't, but with that 10 week PCR plus Dr.
Avatar n tn Although your symptoms were severe for hypothyroid-induced GI problems, your warning is a good one for anyone with unexplained digestive problems. I was dx'd with IBS and had high cholesterol which probably caused a gallbladder packed with stones. After that surgery, symptoms continued and I finally developed a goiter which alerted the need for thyroid testing.
Avatar n tn Many of you say your doctors were not aware of this possible adverse reaction to scopolamine. I suggest you file a report online to the FDA through Medwatch. If the manufacturer and FDA aren't notified, there will never be any research into this side effect. Without research there will never be anything in the literature to make doctors aware of it.
Avatar n tn cipro and levaquin drugs is pretty dangerous and has last year gotten an FDA warning (2016) USE ANYTHING ELSE unless there are NO other options
