nexium

757597 tn?1315801812 The profound hypochlorhydria induced by proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) may impair the gastrointestinal absorption of nonheme iron, a process that is dependent on an acidic environment. The interaction was suspected in two patients with iron deficiency anemia due to gastrointestinal blood loss that were unresponsive to oral iron replacement therapy, even after the bleeding had apparently stopped. Both patients had been on omeprazole for six months while being treated with ferrous sulfate.
Avatar n tn hypothyroidism and scurvy. In both of these situations, by the time SF falls below normal, the subject has anemia and other clinical features suggesting the diagnosis. Low SF levels can be found in GI bleeding (esp. due to gastric malignancies). It is also important to rule out these conditions. Pls consult a physician and get yourself thoroughly examined and investigated to find out the diagnosis as treatment depends on the same. Take care and do keep us posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn For this reason, Japan has risen the lowest level of B12 to 550pg/mL. Nexium causes vitamin B12 deficiency (and plenty of other deficiency states) as it lowers stomach acid essential to release instrinsic factor needed to bind to vitamin B12 for absorption in the gut. A more accurate test for vitamin B12 deficiency is a urinary methylmalonic acid test. (UMMA). Methylmalonic acid rises just 10 days after a vitamin B12 deficiency starts.
Avatar f tn I have had gerd plus a hiatal hernia for years. I take nexium and have for at least ten years. Now I am told I have iron defiency anemia. Reading through the insert that comes with nexium it appears this drug could cause the anemia. Has anybody experienced this?
Avatar f tn It worked very well, but eventually the iron deficiency came back, and they put her on an iron supplement called Chromagen, which also worked very well as far as bring her hemoglobin and ferriten levels up. However, she then developed constipation problems, severe stomach pain, acid reflux and constant nausea. She has already missed a day of school in just the first week!!
4205995 tn?1351169508 Neutralizing stomach acid means you ability to absorb nutrients is impaired. Warning in particular for nexium is magnesium deficiency on the FDA website - seen within 3 months but on average about a year after starting. Magnesium deficiency causes so many symptoms including acid reflux ironically. Magnesium is essential for proper heart rhythm. Calcium contracts the muscles, magnesium relaxes the muscle. The most important muscle in the body is the heart.
Avatar m tn I have also recently had low folate and iron. I went back to the doctor in February, they changed my medication and said it was a gastritis flare up, well I have had gastritis for a while and never had these additional symptoms, just the same ones I had for GERD. The new medicine is not helping any and I am miserable. I hate to wake up in the morning because I am constantly in pain and uncomfortable and I hate going to work because of the burping and how I feel.
Avatar n tn If you are in grade 11 and studying in school, really your parents should be taking care of you and your diet! For your iron deficiency you need to eat plenty of dark green vegetables. The best thing for it is liver (lambsfry), although it is an acquired taste and many people don't like it. Anaemia - iron deficiency - can definitely cause lethargy, a pale complexion etc. I think the problem may go deeper than just diet and I think you should see a doctor.
Avatar m tn Got the results today and Im anemic, the iron deficent one. I was anemic aswell about 3 yrs ago. Im on Galfer FA tablets. They worked before so I hope they do this time to.. Hoping the anxiety will go away shortly now. I had the implanon contraception in for 2 yrs which messed round with my periods etc.I think this is all linked! If nothing has worked for you try Galfer FA! If your feeling better let me no cos I tink im goin mad now!
Avatar f tn I dont eat red meat and so I have low iron. My doctor prescribed me iron tablets and ive been eating plenty of spinach and broccoli. My baby is actually measuring bigger than the average 32 week baby so providing your iron levels aren't too low, your baby shouldn't be developing slower.
Avatar f tn Some people also just have certain medical problems that can cause a problem absorbing iron. And as I said, most iron supplements are not made in a form that is well-absorbed. I would say that if this continues and you're not getting any answers from your child's doctor, it might be time to see a different doctor for another opinion.
Avatar f tn My ferritin levels came back several weeks ago at 10 ug/l (down from 17 last year and after three months of iron therapy. The norm is between 20 and 200). My GP gave me a script for more iron tablets plus some tranexamic acid tablets. I feel like rubbish and I want to be able to push myself harder with my running. Are there things I can do to help replenish my iron stores? I am trying to add more red meat plus have vit. c with that and avoid caffeine either side of a meal.
Avatar f tn hi, for the past week, I've been having headaches and nausea and i went to my doctors and they told me i have below normal iron levels and they gave me supplements. 2 days after taking the supplements my headaches have improved massively but i have been experiencing lightheadedness and the nausea is still there. i was wondering if anyone else had experienced these problems? how long did your lightheadedness last for you to feel your normal self again? i just want to be better!
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing a lot debilitating symptoms but have recieved a diagnosis as of yet. My symptoms are extreme fatigue, lightheaded, difficulty breathing, poor sleep, tingling and poor peripheral circulation, cracks at corners of mouth. I have read about all kinds of nutrient deficiencies and it seems like iron most resembles my symptoms. However my blood count came back "normal". I have not had my serum iron or ferritin checked yet but my B vitamins came out normal.
Avatar n tn You need to supplement immediately. The iron count is probably your ferritin levels which is your iron storage. Your haemoglobin is normal because that's what's circulating in your blood because it's taken from your stores. Your count is very low. It depends on what lab did your test but the last one I had here gave normal levels as between 30-200 (not sure of the units). Mine were 35 but although they looked normal I felt ****.
Avatar n tn my son who is 2 years was diagnosed with a iron deficiency 4 months ago, he is currently taking a iron supplement and I have changed his diet but he seems to be getting weaker by the day. his skin is really pale he does not want to play and want to be carried all the time. any advise on this?
Avatar n tn If you can't stand to take iron, eat iron-rich foods. But if you don't mind your iron supplements, begin to take them now. You will need the iron when you are breast-feeding, and you can use it now also.
Avatar f tn With folic acid deficiency, it is possible for iron and Vit B12 deficiency to co-exist. Hence if B12 is normal, test for iron. Also once you start Vti D and folic acid supplements it will be sometime before you really feel normal again. You can take Vit B12 supplements or a multivitamin B12 supplement and see. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn All your symptoms can be due to iron deficiency and associated Vitamin C or B deficiency. You must find the cause of your anemia. Do consult your physician regarding this. Iron tablets, capsules and syrups are freely available in the market. For people who cannot tolerate oral iron, injectable iron preparations are there. Here is a link for you to go through for a complete list of iron rich food. http://www.loveyourbaby.com/iron-rich-food-list.html Hope this helps.
1373488 tn?1325148631 Thanks Barb135 and goolarra, I forgot to say that I have iron deficiency anaemia, my hgb is 9.6 gm/dl and my ferritin and iron levels are both low, my Vit b12 is normal and RA normal too. I do also had peptic ulcer and am on nexium 20 mgs daily and I discussed with my Doctor re the possibility that nexium is interfering with the iron supplements. I do take my treatment in different times, so they won`t interfere with one another.
Avatar f tn I had severe magnesium deficiency for 2 years, moderate deficiency for 6 years and early magnesium deficiency symptoms going back before the year 2000. I had to diagnose myself and have a calcified mitral heart valve as a memento.
Avatar m tn Hi...many of the meds for GERD/acid reflux deplete our system of the vitamins and minerals we need....they can also make it difficult to absorb them in a natural way or by supplementation..... But, u should be looking to ur PCP to do blood labs to make sure all levels r where they need to be. Magnesium and vit D go hand in hand and many times the drs will say vit d is low but not too many will say u also need the magnesium.... So ask what dose might be good for u to add....
Avatar n tn If you have had a vagotomy, taking Nexium is not advised, A vagotomy reduces acid production and the Nexium also reduces acid production. My advice, having gone through the same surgery ,is to stop taking the Nexium, which by the way is not recommended for use more than 14 days. Take a fiber supplement mixed with water and a teaspoon of cider vinegar before every meal . If you should have occasional acid stomach symptoms, take regular Tums.
