Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin substitute

neurontin

Avatar m tn I was notified by my provider it will no longer fill prescriptions for neurontin. I presently take 2,400 mg a day. Is there an acceptable substitute(s) for this medication. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Hi. It is usually advised to monitor the response to a combination of Xanax and Neurontin. In the elderly, it is advisable to keep the doses adequate enough to have the desired clinical effect. The concern is about a possible clouding of consciousness. Potentially harmful activities such as driving may be avoided, since they require sustained alertness.
479459 tn?1246742019 Hi there, I have posted in the past, but lately just lurking and reading all the great support here. I have had issues with alcohol for 20 years and am an alcoholic. Well, back in Dec I was trying to substitute pain pills, vikes and percs, for when I'd be abstaining. You can imagine what that led to. I got pretty addicted even though my scripts would run out. Went thru major WD a couple months ago but relapsed several times since. Luckily not enough for the big WD to set in.
Avatar f tn m not trying to be rude but I want you all to have the facts lyrica is not a substitute for NEURONTIN, But Gabapentin is a substitute for Neurontin. I only know this because I have been on it for years and it has some nasty side effects. id read about it and see if it could be causing problems you are having best of luck. I feel like a human test tube but learning a lot in the progress. Once again I'm not trying to be rude I just want you to have the correct information.
1041243 tn?1375230520 Even with this lower dose of zoloft the symptoms are still pretty bad, but can these meds be taken together? I am also on 150 mgs of trazodone for sleep and neurontin for anxiety.

Avatar n tn Gabapentin is not a narcotic and is not a substitute for opiates like Oxycodone. Opiates are still the best pain control medications available. Gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica) are similar medications that modulate pain transmission in the nervous system, but gabapentin and pregabalin utilize a different chemical pathway than opiates.
8496079 tn?1398412516 I have been on Neurontin since 1999. I remember when I first started taking it I would not remember at all what had happen recently. I lost my short term memory and every time we had to up the dose( because you get so used to it so fast it become ineffective), the same effect would happen. I am now on 3600mg/day. that's the highest it can go. But Neurontin has it long term effect.
Avatar n tn But if you still have anxiety maybe you should switch to klonopin, that what I did. 1200mg neurontin 1mg klonopin 20 mg lexapro, every morning and 600mg neurontin and 1mg klonopin in the eve. Neurontin has shown to be a mood stabilizer and good for anxiety. It helps...
3054791 tn?1360007908 if your reflexes are weaker and Neurontin makes them stronger could this show normal reflexes on a neuro exam? Same idea for the emg, as neurontin influences the neurotransmitters! Same for the bloodwork: neurontin can lower the leukocytes, if you have a higher BSE and Neurontin lowers it, could this result in a normal outcome of the BSE? Would a biopt of nerve tissue make any sense?
Avatar f tn Will Neurontin show up on a drug test? Took one last night and will possibly be taking a drug test tomorrow morning? Does anyone know for sure? Thanks a bunch!
Avatar f tn Please be careful with using Neurontin... my husband who is addicted to opiates has become addicted to the Neurontin as well. It may sound silly, and I don't have a ton of knowledge on drugs and such, but you can find and read countless forums with people talking about how they abuse the drug, and the horrible withdrawals they go through when running out of it.
Avatar f tn My doctor is starting me on Neurontin. Has anyone had any luck with it or had any side effects?
Avatar m tn I mentioned neurontin awhile back. There was a news episode where a clinic was using it as part of a detox plan. I went from taking around 200 mg of hydro to cold turkey. I've been through withdrawals without it so I know exactly how much the suck! I used neurontin and was able to go on with life. I still had the chills and some anxiety, but you was bearable. It really helped me the most with sleep. The only side effect I had from it was a tinge of a headache and a little fuzzy headed.
1855076 tn?1337115303 I'm just curious if anyone is hearing that Neurontin is being abused? I was given this for nerve pain but couldn't tolerate it as it caused serious slurring of my words to the point people thought I was intoxicated. I also had trouble word-finding on it. But I didn't think it was something anyone abused. (Though I slurred my words, I didn't feel high or intoxicated with it; I sort of felt locked in ... I knew in my head what word I wanted but couldn't get it out.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had an experience with neurontin? It was prescribed for burning hands and feet and I feel very wierd and crazy..and dizzy.
9704730 tn?1405741284 Hello I have a question about neurontin. I recently stopped taking tramadol after 13 years. I had a very difficult time doing so. I stopped Dec 6. My doctor put me on neurontin but I think I am now having withdrawal symptoms from neurontin. I have been taking about 900 mg a day since September. It gives me a lot of side effects such as drowsiness and the inability to think quickly.
Avatar f tn Do you feel that this is related to stopping Neurontin ??? Also, are Neurontin and Lyrica the same drug? I have been hearing this, but have not found anything to support this in my google search. Do you have any opinions about the use of Neurontin for opiate withdrawal? Nauty..........
Avatar f tn Hi j503, I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad that you have found this Forum. I nedd to let you know taht there are NO Doctors on this Forum ONLY CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with their own expertise and experience that they have gained from their own Pain issues. I'm sorry that you aren't getting any relief from your Neurontin.
Avatar f tn The basic question is - How long should it take to feel relief from taking Neurontin? I have been taking 3000Mg a day for about 3 weeks now and still haven't noticed any difference. A little background. I have been doctoring since April 1st for pins & needles/numbness/tightening/pain/tingling in both hands. Also, my arms and chest feel as if I have an extremely tight shirt on. The MRI revealed a spinal cord lesion at C3.
