Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin and heart disease

neurontin

Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed it for my neuropathy, I remember trying to take it in the past and having trouble but I thought I'd try again for him. I also take Tramodol for pain but doc cut me way back on that, thus my problem. I have Hep c, cirrosis, heart disease, diabetes, CAD< PAD, neuropathy, and I suspect either fibro or arthitis, I still go to work everyday so I need to be alert. My tramodol was working just fine for ten years but then got a doc who wanted to mess with things!
Avatar f tn I have tried multiple meds such as antidepressants and Gabapentin... always have had multiple side effects. Things like heart palpitation's, anziety and vision troubles. I can take xanax and Soma with no problems. My question is "could it be the Armour Thyroid that I take that causes the trouble?" I also have a movement disorder labeled as tremors/non-epileptic seizures which also gets worse with antidepressants.
Avatar n tn I don't know if it's expensive or not. I have insurance and it's $20. I haven't noticed any side effects. When I increased the dose I did feel sort of like a foggy feeling the next morning but it only lasted for a few hours and one day. Anxiety wise I don't know if it's helping or not yet...I have a heart condition as well and it's hard for me to determine whether it's my heart or the anxiety.
217229 tn?1192762404 Hi there, okay I have taken Neurontin and Cymbalta together. Neurontin is similar to Lyrica, but is a lot cheaper. I could not tolerate the Cymbalta at all. It made me sick with vertigo, nausea, and it didn't help with the pain. I was prescribed this when they first thought I had fibromyalgia and then later found out it was Still's. I have friends that take Lyrica, a lot of them are on the MS forum here and they had little luck with the med itself.
Avatar f tn s (sometimes up to 4 at a time), I also take other meds for heart issues (coronary artery disease, 1 heart attack and 1 stent, as well as tachycardia including svt at times) as well as numerous GI problems including multiple ulcers and a history of GI bleed. She said that they never put patients on Lyrica and Neurontin together, and certainly never at these high of dosages. I've been taking them at these dosages for at least 5 years.
Avatar m tn I am a Viet Nam vet and have agent orange disease. I was notified by my provider it will no longer fill prescriptions for neurontin. I presently take 2,400 mg a day. Is there an acceptable substitute(s) for this medication. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn HI AHHH a man after my own heart I grew indoors for yrs....neurontin is a funny drug and reacts differently in everybody....I was given it for chronic pain and it not only dident work but the side effects where awful ....
Avatar f tn Hi, I am a 32yr old female who has been on pain meds since 2008 from a terrible accident. I'm currently on Percocet 10/325, 30mg Oxycontin CR, 1200mg Neurontin 3x day and Zanaflex. I was recently diagnosed with Graves Disease which is an autoimmune disease associated with ur thyroid. I have noticed that I'm needing more pain meds than normal to relieve my pain. My question is, does this disease affect the relief I am supposed 2 be receiving from my normal dose?
630344 tn?1280104983 I'm taking the generic form, just recently resumed but have used it in the past. Neurontin is Rx-ed for nerve pain as an "off label" use, that it, treating nerve pain is not the function for which it was designed so it's not listed as a use on the manufacturer's label. It is actually an anti-seizure med, but it was found to also reduce neuropathy in patients. It is my understanding that Lyrica works much in the same way, and is a newer medication by the same company.
Avatar f tn These include metabolism errors, exogenous toxins released by virus, autoimmune disease, leukodystrophy, demyelination, and radiation effects. Spasticity, muscle weakness, paralysis, hyper-reflexia and movement disorder may be the clinical features associated with white matter disease that need to be evaluated thoroughly.
Avatar f tn I am still testing to figure out the cause of the lesion - tumor/MS/transverse myelitis/something else. A doctor prescribed Neurontin starting at 300MG/day and then increasing up to a possible 3600Mg/day.
1490607 tn?1288379690 Has any one heard of or experienced being on Cymbalta and/or Neurontin and where the side effects suddenly became MS like symptoms after being on them for a year?
Avatar n tn I am experenced in all areas and more. I used neurontin many years ago, and had no ill effects. I use cymbalta now for diabetec neuropathy....When you are in trememdous pain, and terrible health you will take anything they give you. I am on 18 different prescriptions a day for heart, diabetes, asthma, emphasema, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, a back that spasms so badly the muscle sticks out over an inch.....oh well etc etc etc....don't just say don't take it....
Avatar f tn I have a huge family history of heart disease. For two generations all 24 parents, aunts and uncles who are blood related have died of a heart attack or stroke. Including my Mom's brother and father after who both died of sudden attacks at 47 y.o. On top of my symptoms, I now have indigestion that feels like I have a giant lump of bread stuck in my throat. Every now and then it spasms and it really hurts down to my breastbone.
Avatar f tn Hi Dear The long term effects of Neurontin are still not known completely. However, Neurontin is a relatively safe and effective treatment for pain. Many patients with painful neruopathy have used Neurontin for many years. Typically the side-effects include somnolence, dizziness, and imbalance. Since you have been using Neurontin for 9 years, there does not seem to be a problem continuing it, even at a slightly increased dose.
Avatar f tn I was also put on neurontin 1 1/2 weeks ago for headaches and wonder if that could have anything to do with it. I just feel so tired and breathless. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
1831849 tn?1383228392 I take gabapentin as well and am in the same boat as Ess when it comes to lyrica. I look at it and gain weight as well as get stupid. ;) I've had no issues with gabapentin and it works terrifically to turn off the horrible nerve pain in my hands and legs, and feet. I cannot imagine living without this drug! I've been on it now for 4 plus years. There is a sweet spot, the dose at which the drug is totally effective and that dose is totally individual.
Avatar f tn S, she studied all my meds, their effects, and the consequenses if any of them had gone allergic or toxic in my body, etc. And low and behold, a toxic level of NEURONTIN does give a fever, does raise heart rate and give palpatations and does cause some of the other symptoms i had. Of course, not all my symptoms were mentioned in her book about the 'adverse reactions to toxic levels of certain drugs' because the Neurontin portion of her book was sorely lacking information.
612205 tn?1225594910 s not a narcotic. I have MS and, as HelpinUtah alluded to, Neurontin is prescribed, in general, for nerve pain. My neurologist has had me on Neurontin for MS related pain in my legs, and I can tell you it's not habit forming. I presume you have some type of similar symptoms for your doc to prescribe it (?). I hope this helps ..
Avatar m tn I had the piece removed and have had the same symptoms since causing me to move to 2 different pain management clinics and this surgeon is the third I've seen. Now this new guy armed with the MRI that should have been done with contrast puts me on Neurontin (Gabapentin) working up to high doses for a month with instructions to come back if it dosen't fix the problem.
Avatar f tn She has had chronic leg pain related to a surgical issue decades ago, and has been on Neurontin for this, up to 900 mg per day, but she has cut herself back to 600 mg/day unless her leg pain is very severe. She always feels as if floating, even if she is lying in bed. She has to ask someone in her presence if she is moving her head because she can't tell herself if she is. She lists to the right, and now she has episodes of speech impairment, almost an expressive aphasia.
1100837 tn?1267668675 Now wants me to get off of Elavil 25mg and Adderal 15mg. Doctor says take the Neurontin for sleep. The Elavil works best for pain, but I can hardly get up in the mornings and it has made me gain 10 plus pounds and counting. I take Clonapin 0.5mg twice a day. Getting off the Elavil, I am having cold feet and hands and a very unsettling feeling and absolutley no energy. Is this withdraw and how long do i suffer?
1207048 tn?1282174304 The problem many people have with Neurontin and meds like it is they start at two high a dose and increase too fast. That maximizes the sides effects and they stop it, when it might have worked wonders. Then it goes on their *bleep* list. Neurontin is not used for sleep unless the problem with sleep is with neuroapthic pain or paresthesias. We had a pain management doc visit us a while back and he wrote a couple Health Pages for us. You might be interested in both.
934553 tn?1275274379 She said the depression was from the disease process and we needed to get me feeling better and the provigil and neurontin would do that. She did not want to do DMDnow as that actually would make me feel worse at present.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist is thinking about it for my anxiety, since nothing is working since a terrible and weird and untreated Paxil withdrawal four years ago. And to the poster, she says it's okay to take with klonopin, if that's any help, since I'm on klonopin and asked her about that.
Avatar m tn My rhuematologist prescribed me Neurontin 100mg, Vitamin D 5000 units and Tremedol Hcl 37.5 mg-325 acetinophen. I took neurontin on thursday. Friday i took Tremedol. Six hours later I took my vitamin D. The next day I took 2 tremedol pills. ON sunday I took one. I stopped on MOnday because i wasn't feel right. I had three panic attacks this week. I went to the ER and was given Xanax. it helped with my anxiety but not my heart. I'm 19 years old-no drug history.
