Neupogen vs epogen

Common Questions and Answers about Neupogen vs epogen

neupogen

Avatar f tn Thanks for the reply Mike....that's what I thought! I don't know why my NP would tell me such a thing. I'm wondering if my HGB being at 9.8 is much of a problem...also how low can it get before someone would need some helper meds pronto! best wishes...
Avatar n tn The medication he is on is Epogen 40,000, Neupogen singleject 480 mg and also ribavirin. That is all I know of. Can someone please just help me to understand what these medicines are supposed to do for him. I feel so lost in all of this and have no where else to go for some understanding? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I had absolutely no problems with epogen whatsoever. I took 40,000 two times a week and it got my HGB up to 10.5 or so and kept it there. You do not want to get higher than 12 that is where the black box warning comes in. But as for real side effects, I've never ever heard of anyone having any and I've been here for over six years!
Avatar f tn start with neupogen as sometimes just this alone makes people feel better. Any input from all you experienced people is always greatly appreciated!
1382010 tn?1279643604 Does anyone have info on the neupogen shot? Have you had to have the injections due to low neutrophils from HepC treatement? Do yiu usually have to continue the shots for the remainder of tx or do they go back up and stay there???
Avatar f tn Jan are you getting neulesta neupogen, or Epogen and or procrit... big difference.. as you know one is for white blood cells..( neulesta neupogen) and the other that is for red blood cells.. Epogen and or procrrit... My oncologist gives me neupogen for white blood cells but would not touch the other at all.. She believes that is causes more problems than it is worth including faster tumor growth...
419309 tn?1326503291 The stuff is expensive, but I had zero co-pay. Although I did a cost comparison for neupogen vs. neulasta, I did not do the same for Aranesp vs Procrit. Aranesp worked well for me since the dosing corresponded with my hemo visits which got less frequent as treatment cycle wore on (went from evey 2 weeks to every 4 weeks after about week 12.
Avatar f tn t know about neuts and neupogen either but with the Procrit (I was on epogen) once a week did not work for me so we had me doing twice a week (which finally started to raise it too high) and then we backed it down to every 5 days. This kept me in the 10.5 range which believe it or not isn't that bad. On the way going DOWN it's much much more terrible but once you get it up over 10 it's ok.
Avatar m tn Last week my platelet was dropped to 71000 from 156000, WBC was at 2590, HGB was at 10.9 and Neurophils at 38%. So I had 2 shots of Neupogen and Mircera 100 (Epogen) as asked by my Dr. My yesterday's bloodwork came as HGB 11.5, WBC 27830 (Range 4500-11,500) , Neutrophils 88 (Range 50-70) and Platelet at 156000. When asked about the abnormality my Dr. Rx antibiotic for 5days as the reason for both WBC & Neutrophils extremely high is due to an infection.
Avatar f tn I have been taking the Neupogen for the entire nine months. I take Neupogen 3 times a week (tues, thurs, sat) and my counts are still low. My most recent (2/19/08) lab results are as follows: WBC 2.0 ANC 520 RBC 3.54 Hemoglobin 11.7 I am also taking Procrit every other Friday. My lowest WBC count was 1.8. I agree with nygirl, your numbers seem ok. My doctor would have put you on the Neopogen bases on your WBC and ANC. Let your doctor know that you are concerned about your numbers.
Avatar f tn Dec. 10, 2009? In the grand scheme of having your body's systems turned completely inside out by interferon, that's not very long off of the drugs. A LOT of weird, transient things pop up in the first 12 or so weeks following end of treatment (EOT) and sometimes even later. The jumpy legs was restless leg syndrome and is a good illustration that indicated nerve damage that you did not really have.
Avatar f tn You are able to take Neupogen for the entire treatment if needed. I started taking Neupogen in week 6 and took 1 shot a week untill week 48. I also took Epogen starting week 20 untill week 48. I also stopped all meds twice and lowerd meds when needed to keep blood counts at a safe level.
1658980 tn?1330711550 Does your trial give your doctor leeway to determine what comes first, the neupogen or the dosage reduction? If yes, you can ask your doctor to go with the neupogen first, stating you don't want a dosage reduction. Adherence to dosages in the first 12 weeks are particularly important. If the trial does not allow your doctor that leeway and it strictly requires dosage reduction at 750 ANC and neupogen at 500 ANC, you'll have to follow trial mandates.
Avatar f tn Hi Crigger: I was on Epogen (Procrit) for 6 weeks before experiencing bone pain in my lower left left. Since the big leg bones produce most of the hemoglobin, I suspect the pain was due to the production of Hgb. My bone pain was modest and resolved itself in a few days. Bone pain can be a severe side effect and should be reported to your doctor. Good luck!
695002 tn?1228147995 Probably the most significant advances in managing side effects have been the introduction of Epogen/Procrit (for managing anemia) as well as Neupogen (for managing neutrophil production). These drugs can help a patient maintain full compliance with interferon treatment without dose reduction, increasing the chances of clearing the virus permanently. For a good primer on HCV, take a look at the following site: http://janis7hepc.
Avatar m tn Doctor says no interferon on my regular injection day. I am now on Neupogen to try and bring my ANC back up to over 1000 so I can go back on full dosage in a few days. Since all this happened with the first 3 shots the doctor does not think I have a good chance to make it through 24 weeks, but taking week week to week. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar situation and what was the outcome ??
Avatar n tn This is my second try at beating this dreaded virus and I was on neupogen for close to 40 weeks and my insurance covered that.
1467213 tn?1304214305 You are pretty close to needing a transfusion. You made no mention of taking epogen (procrit) although you are taking neupogen which is for low neutrophils. Why aren't they putting you on epo? I am not familiar with this study. Have you treated before? IF so, how were your counts then? I ask because I wonder if the blood drops are from the study drug of the interferon and ribavirin. You must feel awful with HGB at 7. I hope they resolve this for you soon.
2062505 tn?1331089288 Of course, follow your doctors advise on whether or not to space apart the pegylated interferon shot and the Procrit shot. When I was taking Epogen/Procrit, I was not concerned with separating the shots.
Avatar n tn Nonblack patients in SPRINT-2 who had ≥ 1 log decline in their HCV RNA after 4 weeks of pegIFN/RBV alone had SVR rates of approximately 82% vs 29% to 39% for patients who did not achieve a 1 log response during the lead-in period. Similar results were seen in black patients but with lower response rates overall. http://www.clinicaloptions.com/Hepatitis/Annual%20Updates/2011%20Annual%20Update/Modules/DAA%20Naive/Pages/Page%206.
