Avatar f tn Hi there, I'm not Grace but....have been doing quite a bit of reading on this subject with great interest. I'm assuming that the woman you're talking about with the 2 children with CP has HSV 2. As far as I understand, CP is not connected to neonatal herpes--it's a separate condition altogether. The CP is most likely a result of something else...not herpes. Isn't it linked to a lack of oxygen at birth? That is not herpes.
Avatar f tn Effects on the fetus It should be considered that the child born of a mother who is receiving benzodiazepines may be at risk of developing withdrawal symptoms from the drug during the postnatal period. Also, neonatal flaccidity and respiratory problems have been reported in children born of mothers who have been receiving benzodiazepines. Labor and delivery Alprazolam has no established use in labor or delivery.
Avatar n tn ve encountered a case in which a 5-day old puppy was brought in the clinic with hemoptysis, I concluded that it was aspiration pneumonia because the puppy was only been nursed by the owner... We immediately administered antibiotics and wasn't able to put on IV fluids due to the small size of the puppy, we tried administering oral fluids, but it doesn't work well.... after an hour, the puppy died and coughed a lot of blood....
Avatar f tn Thank you, Terri. I really appreciate your insight, and believe me, I was livid! After seeing him, I went to planned parenthood and met a gem of a clinician. She looked at mom's and my results and asked me a few questions. I told her about the sores and that I was hospitalized for the first 3 months of my life with pneumonia. I didn't think that was an important thing to mention, but to her, it almost sealed the neonatal infection deal.
Avatar n tn Am not a doctor, but this sounds like pneumonia. I use to work in a nursing home and seen people with this problem..u need the hospital...please go straight away...
Avatar f tn Adverse events associated with the neonatal withdrawal syndrome included hypertonia, neonatal tremor, neonatal agitation, and myoclonus, and there have been reports of convulsions, apnea, respiratory depression, and bradycardia. Talk to your Doc and have a specified treatment and counseling done.Keep me updated.
Avatar f tn Hes battling alcoholism but for the most part has treated me a lot better since getting pregnant. Im 18 weeks and had pneumonia. My mom had surgery and wasn't home to help me. I haven't seen him in a week. The last two weeks hes been distant but sober. Says he has to focus on himself to get his mind right. I just could use a lil support. This isn't fair to me. Whenever he needs me im there. My whole pregnancy, I've been stressed worrying about him.
Avatar f tn My family and I are at a loss. My dad had his aortic valve replaced (elective/scheduled) on 12/15/22. The Dr. said he lost a lot of blood and they had trouble controlling his blood pressure during the surgery. He was never extubated after the surgery, never followed commands. They did a CT scan 4 days later, that's when it was discovered he had a stroke. Later that week he had a trach and g-tube put in.
Avatar f tn Babies with spina bifida also have many other challenges, and you should try and deliver at a hospital that has neonatal intensive care, pediatric neurosurgery and a spina bifida care program if possible.
Avatar f tn Tramadol hydrochloride should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Neonatal seizures, neonatal withdrawal syndrome, fetal death and still birth have been reported during post-marketing. Labor and Delivery Tramadol hydrochloride should not be used in pregnant women prior to or during labor unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Safe use in pregnancy has not been established.
Avatar f tn I know ed is right about this....you carry this, you don't get rid of it. It lies dormant in your system. Nursing homes are rampant with it. There was a time that Dr.'s weren't supposed to admit residents to nursing homes if they were carriers. Hospitals hardly ever test any more for it because it is so rampant. There is even crossover from the animal population. I know because my daughter, a Registered Vet Tech, got it from the animal surgical center where she works.
Avatar n tn [28] Tramadol causes serious or fatal[citation needed] side-effects in a newborn, including neonatal withdrawal syndrome, if the mother uses the medication during pregnancy or labor. Use of tramadol by nursing mothers is not recommended by the manufacturer because the drug passes into breast milk.[28] However, the absolute dose excreted in milk is quite low, and tramadol is generally considered to be acceptable for use in breastfeeding mothers.
Avatar f tn Question for moms/dads or any specialist doctors that want to weigh in For those babies that have acquired neonatal hsv what did the pediatrician/infectious disease tell you to expect in terms of future outbreaks, if they had disease localized to the CNS will they be able to transmit the virus via skin? Or only if there is an outbreak. There is literally not research on then prognosis or outlook.
Avatar m tn My father is 79 years old, he was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia, upon exams they discovered he had a couple of arteries blocked. I think they said 40% blockage in one and not sure of the blockage in the other one, not sure what arteries are blocked. The cardiologist is recommending Bypass surgery, all the information I have read states that blockage of this type can usually be treated with medication.
Avatar f tn Inhaling a mouthful of fecally contaminated water instead of air is profoundly dangerous. Not surprisingly, as the popularity of waterbirth has grown, the number of neonatal deaths directly attributable to it has grown as well. A new paper in the American Journal of Forensic Medical Pathology discusses the tragic case of a term newborn who died of Pseudomonas pneumonia and sepsis as a result of waterbirth.
Avatar f tn And busy? I'm roughly 6+5 with my second and I'm in school full time as well. It's doable you just have to prioritize. Set a schedule and work hard to maintain it. You and your husband are a team you both have to agree on your individual responsibilities. Maintaining steady and calm communication is fundamental to your relationship and your sanity as mom.
Avatar m tn ll my dad had lacunar stroke on right side of brain Oct 17 2013 . He is paralyzed on left side. He was walking with walker nov 2 2013 but nov 27 he got pneumonia and his heart got irregular. He had a critical troponin result that day. Now he has a half inch bed sore and he is kinda giving up. Dec 17 the rehab center suggested hospice plan ideas. Disappointing.
Avatar f tn My father had a brain stem stroke five days ago. The doctors told me it was very bad from the beginning. He had a blood clot and it is still there. We chose not to have a thrombectomy done to remove the clot because it had a 90 percent failure rate and seemed very risky...yet I wish we had done it. My father has very low response. He can hold our hands (firm grip) and moves his eyebrows when you say his name but that is about it. he is pretty much unconscious.
672586 tn?1280933658 My father is 91 1/2. He has Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus with a shunt, and apparently he also has some degree of Alzheimer's Disease. At this point he is completely immobile, and the caregivers in the nursing home say he's getting weaker, can no longer stand by himself even while holding on for support because his legs give out. Recently he started breathing heavily and sounding congested. An X-ray ruled out pneumonia, and he has been on lasix for a few weeks.
Avatar f tn I found one of my 1 day old puppys, lifeless this morning after her mom had layed on her, it hadn't been to long before. I began rubbing her vigorously, swinging her down as though trying to bring her to life after a c-section. She coughed up milk, thank goodness she was alive!! Milk came out her mouth and nose, I cleared it the best I could. Now almost 12 hrs later, you can't even tell it happened. She's nursing, sleeping, acts the same as all the rest of her siblings.
Avatar f tn He also took her off of her lasix, because this contributed to kidney failure. He would only release her to a nursing home and would not write an order to resume the blood thinner or the lasix. We were told that without the blood thinner she would develop blood clots around the valve and it would either stop working all together causing a heart attack or it would throw clots causing strokes and this could cause death, paralysis or a coma like state for years.
4444857 tn?1383325813 ) nd then after i graduate from this my plan is to get a job in this field, work fur a lil bit, nd then go back to nursing school for neonatal nurse! :) but that could always change cuz who knows i could actually fall in love doin wat im already doin nd not wanna change out of it...
Avatar m tn he barely talks, but can talk sometimes with few words. he also caught pneumonia of pseudomonas spp. which is very difficult to treat. he is also severly immunocompromised. he needs 24hr care such as ng tube feeding, diaper change, physiotherapy etc. he is 61 years old and has been bedridden for 5 months now. Currently he is in his native country but we are thinking of bringing him to USA for better treatment. He is a US citizen and has insurance here. he was out of USA while he got sick.
Avatar f tn 12 months ago I made an emergency trip back east to have my elderly parents placed in a nursing home - they hade been living in their house but my mom had alzheimers and my dad parkinsons. My dad had an accident and had to be put in the hospital and that is when the drs.said he could not go back home - it was a blessing in disguise because I had been trying to get him to agree to leave the house.
