Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I found out that i have worsening instability which may be the reason for the return of some of my symptoms. For those of you with CCI, or had a fusion for CCI, what was your neck pain like. My doctor wanted me to try physical therapy including cervical traction. I'm not sure if i slept wrong one day or not but I have a lot of neck pain when I turn side to side and look up. The pain seems to be at the middle and base of my neck and is very sharp.
Avatar f tn I too have an old (15 yrs) neck injury. Recently finished PT for a flare due to a fall and ended up having traction on a decompression machine after weeks and weeks of PT were only dulling the pain. . It was the BEST thing. I know have a home traction unit that is similar to the decompression machine only portable. Now I use that when I have a flare, take Lodine daily, use ice and heat when need be and am going to the YMCA and using weights and exercising.
Avatar n tn About 3 or 4 days ago I started getting pain starting on both sides of my neck, starting at my jaw line. It radiates down and into my shoulders. It's a kind of burning pain. Don't take any medications. When it happens it lasts a few minutes then stops but usually starts again right away, then stops totally.
Avatar f tn he said my neck was out and did a treatment.. during the treatment he pulled my head and neck at which time I had severe pain that radiated from the back of my head up and over and was severe to right above my right eyebrow...this did not help matters... 2 days later I saw the neurologist who did and mri which showed the Chiari malformation...

Avatar f tn After seeing my personal doctor, a chiropractor, a physical therapist, and an orthopedic surgeon, I still don't have answers to the chronic pain I have in my neck/shoulder area. (Bottom of my neck/trapezius area) It started out as just a sore neck, but over the years, it has worsened into feeling almost like a pinched nerve I am 19 years old and have had the same pain in my neck for the past 5 or so years.
1415563 tn?1281998836 After a period of traction range of motion exercises through the limits of pain are necessary. This seems contrary to common sense, because normally you think that "pain" tells me I will cause injury if I move my head in such a way as to induce pain. If you don't do this you will begin to "self-splint" and the range of motion you have will become increasingly limited.
Avatar m tn Other symptoms may include vertigo, nausea (dizziness) that you felt. Other symptoms are like neck pain and stiffness can be intermittent. It will be best that you consult a neurologist who would like to prescribe Pain killers, steroid and muscle relaxants. Other treatments could be cervical orthosis such as a soft cervical collar or stiffer neck brace to restrict neck movement. In addition, cervical traction may also be suggested by the doctor, if condition is severe. Hope this helps.
5619229 tn?1371051348 If there is no other cause and axial traction works movement through the limits of pain together with use of an axial traction device (about $35) is usually recommended. Generally this is referred pain along a dermatome. Usually, but not always it is due to nerve compression in the cervical area secondary to an incident a long time ago where the head was moved forcefully foward or backward. Pain medications won't work, however anti-inflammatories will.
Avatar n tn I have severe neck pain, shoulder pain and headache. I have swelling in my arms and legs.it has been very painful for me for quite a long time. I have undergone physiotherapy - 18 sessions of hot packs, electric stimulation, cold packs, massage etc. Now the doctor has suggested DRX9000 as there is very less improvement.
Avatar f tn m getting the run around. The neck pain I have lived with for years but the shoulder and gripping pain in my upper arm is really ugly. My shoulder hurts when I move it but the gripping pain around my upper arm (about half way between shoulder and elbow) feels live a red hot band squeezing my arm. It causes me to double over in pain and I have very little use of my left arm on most days. The hydrocodone does little to ease the pain.

Avatar n tn I have pain from the back of my neck to my head. i have chest pain and back pain.
Avatar m tn After a short period, prednisone, ibuprufin and intermittant gentle axial traction, and exercise through the limit of pain. Traction, traction traction. But not 24/7 traction. Five to fifteen minutes of traction ten to fifteen minutes initially, separated by appropriate intervals. Gabapentin sometimes helps, but it degrades mental performance. Avoid riding in a car or sit on an inflatable pillow to cushion the bumps. Then special exercises.
Avatar f tn for while now i have bad neck pain it seems to be coming from middle of my neck when the pain arrives it makes me very dizzy and can knock me of balance..its not very nice when this pain is hitting me...
Avatar f tn Generally pain/numbness in the arm, shoulder and back portion of the head originates from the neck problems due to irritation in the cervical (neck) spine since the nerves that supply these areas start in the upper cervical spine. Mostly, this kind of pain aggravates after turning head and typically occurs in patients with previous neck injuries that causes disc bulge and in patients with marked arthritis of the upper cervical spine.
Avatar n tn Other treatments could be cervical orthosis such as a soft cervical collar or stiffer neck brace to restrict neck movement until some relief. In addition, cervical traction may also be suggested by the doctor, if condition is severe. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn m sorry to hear about you neck pain...my surgeon is only giving two weeks of traction... I see the surgeon again on the 28th...my second traction has seemed to be a little better..but during the traction I got a horrible headache and my pt stopped the traction.. I'm feeling a little better today, but still have the headache, it's just not as bad... As far as the shoulder.arm pain, that's still there... I also have been questioned about my shoulder and arm pain...
Avatar f tn Hi, I Have had a very long history of migraine and terrible headaches all of my life then the pain at the back of my neck started and I went through an odyssey of doctors and heard everything from “you don’t have anything wrong with you-to go home in the waiting room are real patients”. In the end I at last by pure chance found a neurosurgeon that took me seriously and treated me as a real person.
