Common Questions and Answers about Neck pain relief at home

neck

Avatar n tn It must be so frustrating. Have you been to a pain clinic at the local hospital or medical center? Have you been to a sleep clinic? One or both of these places might have some answers for you. I wonder if you could position pillows in bed so that you could sleep without rolling over to lay on your arm? I hope you can find some answers. Please let us know how you are doing. If there's anything we can do for you, just ask.

1672915 tn?1335220598 I am 5 mnths post op and still have unbearable pain in my neck, left shoulder that sometimes go down my arm, low back and right hip pain. Last mnth I had Mri's done and my surgeon said they look good. I went and saw a pain Dr. and he put me on a muscle relaxer that's supposed to help but so far it hasn't. I am having more pain now then I did before surgery and I am becoming very depressed. I am worried that when I go back to the pain Dr.
773646 tn?1239225659 With all I'm going through my worst or most annoying symptom is pain. In reading about ms (I'm still undiagnosed) It wasn't thought of as a painful condition. But I am dealing with worsening pain. Mostly in my feet and legs.I'm wondering in everyone's personal opinion What is more helpful? I've been prescribed opiates but I'm afraid of dependency and feel you build tolerance to them.
Avatar f tn I have an anxiety problem when it comes to health related issues. I am the type of girl who gets a little pain in the back of my neck and automatically assumes it is meningitis. So, needless to say, my muscles were not relaxed at all for at least a 5 day period. Then it was time to travel back to my school once the holiday was over. I went back by train, and I figured the uncomfortable feeling was something to do with my muscles or nerves.
1554181 tn?1294328303 With the rizotomy I still have all the other symptoms, the discomfort in neck and head is the worst of them, but at least no pain. This gives me quality of life I otherwise would not have had. My neurosurgeon prefers not to operate unless it becomes critical to do so. In South Africa not many cases of ACM is seen. I am lucky to be at a NS who has knowledge of it and is careful in his treatment. It does not take away the ACM or change the progression, only controls pain.
Avatar f tn t have time to see a doctor, and I was hoping someone could help me with some ideas on how to cure my neck soreness at home. I know what caused it, and it's a little embarassing. Yesterday I fell asleep on my couch, and I was sitting upright so I wasn't resting my head. I was exhausted and I woke up somehow with my head tilted WAY back (and yes, my mouth wide open) after about two hours. Yikes! I'm in a lot of pain. Can anyone help me?
Avatar f tn NS said he didn't find anything unexpected, and I don't think he was looking for anything in particular. He was also surprised at how quickly I noticed improvement in my breathing. I tire easily and my head/neck hurt constantly, but it's great to be at home! At least at home I can manage my own pain meds -- I didn't have a pump, so had to beg for meds all the time when pain got bad...then had to WAIT for pharmacy to send up my flexeril. So lame!
Avatar n tn I know there is no cure, but is there anything we can do at home to give relief? I usually give him back rubs and just recently have been doing hot stone therapy on his back, and hamstrings. This only gives temporary relief and mostly is just muscle relief.
Avatar n tn I have been having server head (back of head) and neck pain for about 4-5 weeks. I have had no relief of pain. I was hospitilzed in Feb for 3-4 days, and they say that I just have a cluster migrain. I keep telling tell that this is not my tiypical mygrain! it is different! I have sever head pain that sometime runs to my shoulder. I have to go to the hospital about every two weeks or so, just to get relief.
Avatar f tn Hi, I Have had a very long history of migraine and terrible headaches all of my life then the pain at the back of my neck started and I went through an odyssey of doctors and heard everything from “you don’t have anything wrong with you-to go home in the waiting room are real patients”. In the end I at last by pure chance found a neurosurgeon that took me seriously and treated me as a real person.
2034897 tn?1329505648 Hello and Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am sorry to hear about your unmanaged pain. What is your diagnosis? Knowing why you have pain can help in controlling and treating it. Have you had an Cervical MRI? If not it may be a good idea to look at the structure of the neck area. If not contraindicated alternating between heat and ice sometimes can reduce your Obviously OTC, NSAIDs can also be benifical... but this should be discussed with your treating physician.
Avatar f tn I've recently been experiencing severe neck pain. Its unbearable to even sleep at night. Any suggestions on how to subdue the pain? It'd be greatly appreciated!
2118452 tn?1340976428 m 7 weeks post-op today and still have some pain in my head and neck. It took about 5 weeks to start feeling better at all - and that was after I saw my doctor and he switched my medications. I was on dilaudid & percocet (rotate) and he gave me vicodin and valium instead. The difference has been tremendous. I know it is is rough! I also have 3 kids - all natural, no meds. And 2 previous back surgeries.

Avatar f tn I was hoping that someone would be able to suggest some type of pain relief other than acetametaphin or ibuprofen. I am really struggling with the pain in my neck & base of the head. My new Cine-MRI is not until Feb.8 & followup neurosurgeon appt. on Feb.14...started with numbness & tingling under my right arm today & the "foggy",dry, inflammed feeling in my eyes has gotten worse over the last couple of days. Can someone please help me???
Avatar n tn I, too, am so sorry to hear of your mother's suffering. I know as her child, you feel helpless and just want to get your mother relief. Lulu's post is right on. It's time for the palliative care that a hospice center could give her. This doesn't mean that you are sending her there to die. This just means that these people are better able to help get a grip on her pain. They are not afraid to try every drug possible to relief your mother's pain.
1960024 tn?1355014582 I have had pretty severe Pain in the back of my neck that radiates into the back of my head for about 5 months now. I've seen my Dr. and at first he said a pulled muscle then when it did not go away he tried PT, still no relief so he tried these shots that numbed the area for a couple hours, but that was it. There's also lumps now, at my hairline and in the mid neck close to the spine, I decided to see another Dr.
Avatar f tn I use it for my neck, it works amazing at relaxing the neck muscles for me and actually helps relive tension headaches i get from my neck issues. As for muscle relaxers, (just in my case) flexeril didn't help at all, but baclofen works great. Hope that helps and good luck to you.
Avatar f tn Has anyone found any tips or tricks to help relieve some of these symptoms? Head pressure, neck pain, and balance problems make everything so difficult. I'm a newbie here and don't see the neuro until April. I haven't been given a dx yet but my gp says that my MRI shows that the base of my brain is extending down into my spinal column. It really looks to me like I have chiari and I just want some relief!
Avatar n tn He is badly swollen and bruised on his right, upper thigh amongst a few other bruises and friction burn. Anyone know of some home remedies to ease the pain and healing process. He doesn't want to go and get checked out.
Avatar f tn Thanks for replying. I thought that was breakthrough pain was. It almost doesn't apply to me as the pain is so high and so constant. I get up in the morning and it's really high and it gets worse as the day goes by (and this can be with me simply sat or led on the sofa - any kind of movement (slightly turning my head, moving my arm, just any very slight movement really) increases it.
Avatar m tn The treatment they prescribed was getting cold injections to the nerves in neck and head. She received three treatments over the past year with some short term relief of pain but always come back. Beside this treatment she been doing a routine of physiotherapy, deep tisse massage, water therapy with some relief but not enough. She is going to start acupunture soon.
