Neck pain ice or heat

Common Questions and Answers about Neck pain ice or heat

neck

1794411 tn?1321495731 I have a bed buddy for my neck and the heat seems to help, but there are times where the pain just feels like I need the ice pack...I have the pain in the back of my neck from a bulging disc in C6-C7, plus a lot of the headaches are always at the base of my neck. So I am just wondering what others find to work better. Thanks!
1380526 tn?1292839385 Well I can not use Ice...it makes me hurt more the colder I am...heat helps me...so a soak in the tub or a warm wrap on the neck or shoulder area that is bothering me is more helpful to me.....not everyone can tolerate ice as a means to help pain....so if it doesn't work do try heat...but always with either heat or ice....short periods of time only...no more then 15 mins.
Avatar f tn How many months post op are you? i'm six months and I'm still having pain in the neck. My recommendation use ice and heating packs as much as possible.
Avatar f tn If the knots go away, they are probably caused by muscle strain. If they come back, repeat the ice/moist heat therapy. [Do NOT put ice directly on your skin, and do NOT put a dry heating pad directly on your skin. Use only MOIST heat ... put a damp rag between the heating pad and your skin.] If this helps but the knots keep returning, find an Orthospinologist Chiropractor. Read up on them if you have doubts.
Avatar f tn I've had this problem for more than an year now. I was once studying at night and fell asleep on my study table. Woke up early in the morning and found my pain and back aching. Didn't seem much of a problem at that time. However the pain increased by afternoon. I didn't consider it any major thing and turned my head a bit sideways. It helped. Sort of. Momentarily. The pain became persistent and I again turned my head. This sort of became a habit and I've still been doing it!
Avatar m tn t tell if its in the brain or just below the skin. I have tried muscle relaxers, heat, ice, and rest. Sound doesn't seem to trigger it as much as movement. Should I be worried?
Avatar m tn Try icing your neck for 15 minutes once or twice an hour, and warm, moist heat at other times. Support your neck with a pillow or rolled-up towel until the pain passes.
Avatar f tn Just wandering how many use either ice or heat for your migraines? Does it work? Which one is best?
Avatar f tn I live in Las Vegas where the heat is unreal right now!! And my finances car ac just took a crap so the days he had to take me to see my ob or pick something up I got a huge cup full of ice to the top and tons of water.
Avatar m tn Otherwise, give it time and try ice or heat and gently try moving your neck if you have no history of neck or spine problems.
282936 tn?1587874198 t seem to know what to do or what it is, I would suggest you see a chiropractor, they specialize in neck pain and such, also, try putting some ice on it and alternating with heat, this might help.
Avatar n tn ve been applying ice now to my neck instead of heat which seems to be helping the neck issue. Thanks for your help!
Avatar f tn Now I use that when I have a flare, take Lodine daily, use ice and heat when need be and am going to the YMCA and using weights and exercising. Took me a while to build up to where I am but it helps a lot.
Avatar f tn In my experience, if this pain is nerve root pain from your neck, it may do no good to try and treat your hand or arm where you feel the pain, and OTC pain meds might not help as much as one would hope. Try applying ice or moist heat or both to your neck, instead, to see if this lessens the pain in your arm. I've also found that regular X-rays do not always show a herniated disk, but that an MRI is sometimes required.
Avatar f tn s been trying to de-stress with yoga, and ice his jaw/neck as well as apply heat. he also has tried sleeping with specialty pillows. nothing is working, and its frustrating both of us. is there anything out that maybe we haven't thought of? i can't bare to think he's just going to have to live on painkillers and muscle relaxers for the rest of his life.
1475344 tn?1287160429 I fell on my neck while trying to do a handstand and my neck clicked and ever since its been clicking and it hurts to tilt my head back and towards the evening it hurts to turn it left and right or if im leaning back on a surface it starts to hurt i went to the doctor andd he gave me ibuprofen and it does not seem to work i told him this but he told me its not a big deal but is it?
Avatar f tn Usually the pain causes the covering paravertebral muscles to go into a protective spasm to immobilize the injured joints to prevent further damage. You could try moist heat or ice application to relieve the muscle spasm along with NSAIDS prescribed by your physician according to your medical fitness. You would need a neurologist to examine you and a fresh MRI spine to check if there is any worsening of degenerative disc disease, clinically if you have any tingling and numbness.
Avatar m tn Are you still taking pain meds? I would call you NS and tell them about this. You don't need to be in pain. I would suggest heat and ice also. I know when I have HA's like this I put the heating pad on my head and put a pillow on top of it. For some reason for me it takes some of the pressure off. Try this and I pray it helps you also. Taking your pain med's in a timely pattern helps.
Avatar n tn You may have some arthritis, and putting a ice pack on in the morning, and some heat (hot towel or even a heating pad) for a short time before you go to sleep might help. Since you have had it for so long, I'd suggest a visit to your Internist to make sure it is not something more serious as the FIRST thing to do.
Avatar f tn Drink ice water, lay in front of a fan and put ice packs or cubes on your half naked body lol
