Neck and shoulder pain while cycling

Common Questions and Answers about Neck and shoulder pain while cycling

neck

Avatar n tn Certain sports will make the pain worse because of neck positioning. Bowling require neck extension and will typically aggravate this pain. Other sports such as swimming, cycling, and volleyball have components of extension inherent, which will also cause momentary shoulder and arm pain. The follow through in the golf swing and the serve in tennis require momentary neck extension that can cause a “jolt” of pain during the maneuver. I hope this information will help you.
506259 tn?1228788619 Hi, for a few months I have had severe pain that is in my chest, back and raidiates to hands and feet, neck and head. I have hand swelling, fluid retention. The pain starts slowly and worsens over a day or two, is around for a few days then magically disappears. I have gained alot of weight with this. I have fluid in my lungs after laying down for awhile, however it clears within minutes of being upright.
Avatar n tn You mention cycling, sitting in a hunched over and neck bent back position is very, very, bad for your neck by the description you wrote. Unfortunately you need to lay off the bike for a while. Describe you pain? Is it local to the neck? does it shoot down your arms, shoulder? Do you hurt between the shoulder blades? Numbness, tingling in hands?

1534233 tn?1523388856 I had a worrying pain in the left side of my neck about 10 months ago. Doc said was probably ok but could be heart related. If anything it would go away with exercise. I stopped smoking and have now lost 56lb. I did a lot of cycling, one day in July my heart rate raced away for no reason while gently cycling, got up to 174. Went to hospital and they said 'transient rhythm problem', something similar happened 2 months later, hospital gave me omeprazole and gaviscon!
Avatar m tn I wonder if it was a mis-diagnosis or half-diagnosis, and it makes me question whether the nerve pinching issues is actually at the shoulder RATHER than the neck. Regardless, the issue is no longer in my neck and shoulder, but in my neck, shoulder, and back. It's difficult to even pinpoint the pain. It's like one big, sore clump spawning from mid-back to shoulder to neck. DIFFICULTY SPEAKING: One of the red flags I'm experiencing is difficulty speaking.
Avatar n tn It starts and goes through my collar bone area and up the side of my neck. It happens 50+ times a day, and is really interfering with my life. I can find no trigger for it, or anyway to get it to stop. Although each instance only last maybe a few seconds, it feels like forever, and happens often. I dont know if the back and shoulder pain are related, but because both are on my left side, I thought they might be. Has anyone experienced these symptoms, or know of anything they might be?

Avatar m tn ve since recovered, sometimes when I do exercises that involve shoulder and neck movement, the injury comes back. There's pain in the exact same spot and my shoulder starts to sag. Other times, the injury doesn't come back, but I feel like there may be a nerve snapping about around my shoulder blade. Can any give me insights on how I can go about fixing it?
Avatar m tn In the last year or so, I have developed pain wiht typing. The pain occurs in the my shoulder, my neck and my upper back, especially in my shoulder blades and under my arms in the rib area. Also the pain seems to be worse on my right side from the side of my neck down to my right shoudler and shoulder blade. I also get a knot in the middle of my back. I have tried PT to strengthen my back, but with no help. The pain kept returning. I have tried antiinflammatories and muscle relaxers.
Avatar n tn In addition, if u have EDS in addition that is hypermobile joints...and ur joint may pop in and out and that may cause the pain and inflamation in that area also....do u notice shoulder pain when lying on ur side to sleep? Most of us tend to have issues with bulging disks and DDD so I guess it is possible that some of it could also be a form of arthritis. May I ask is ur dr a chiari specialist?? Maybe u would want a second opinion if ur dr is not hearing ur concerns.
Avatar n tn I also have been suffering with shoulder and neck pain, and even upper back. I was wondering if the two could be related. I was tested for hormonal problems, thyroid problems, myalgias, and anything else they routinely test for when they take your blood. I was given a low dose of antiepressant to help me sleep at night so I am not awakened with the pain. This helps at night, but I am getting weary of the constant ache.
Avatar f tn I was in a car wreck it caused whiplash and a head contusion in 2008 and I just had surgery for Herniated Disc I had pain and numbness in my right hand and fingers, in my arm numbness in my elbow pain in between my shoulder blades and across my shoulder, neck stiffness pain in my neck loss of motion in neck and major and many headaches I also had dizzy spells and major sinus problems form it. I tried PT and chiropractors they were a temporary fix and that was it.
358304 tn?1409709492 My brother who is a massage therapist, massaged me and said I had lots of knots in my shoulder blades that can cause referred pain and further spasms. While his deep tissue massages felt good, it was only temporary, but between him and a few visits to my chiropractor, I was feeling better again. Now I just keep cycling with these 2 issues. RIGHT NOW, it's my shoulder blades again.
Avatar m tn Have you been on the computer for a while. Your neck could be very tense leading to neck pains. Just try to exercise your neck muscles lightly.
Avatar n tn The thing I can not understand is I have little to no pain in my neck. I do however have tremendous pain in my right shoulder blade and down my right arm into my hand. This has been going on for about 3 months and when I cough I have sharp pain in my shouder blade. Is this a normal sensation for a compressed nerve?
Avatar f tn Well I'm 37 weeks, and my neck and my back(up top) are really messed up.. like it hurts to turn my neck or move my right shoulder. Is there anything they can do while I'm pregnant or do I just need to wait to go after the baby's born? Since this pain came I have a knot on the back of my head now too..
Avatar m tn It only hurts when I breathe in, sneeze, cough, and even burp. As soon as I do one of those things, it sends shooting pain down my neck, and through my right shoulder. Nothing else hurts. I don't know what this could be!
1501419 tn?1289308044 also I have two minor budlging discs in neck. the pain in my neck never goes away! Also the pain in my mid back and under my shoulder blades is horrible. i had steroid and botox injections done about two weeks ago with no help to me. also i get a prickly sensaition in my mid back? i am going back to my doctor next week, but thought maybe I gcould get some adice and help. the muscle spasms are very bad and sometimes i cant get of the couch or move.
1530144 tn?1291940314 The most likely explanation is that you have injured your shoulder and later your neck at some point. With MS, pain is either a result of spasticity/spasms or paresthesia (phantom pain.) I remember that I had the worst neck pain about two weeks after I had a car wreck. I woke up one day and could not move my head because it hurt so badly. I think injuries like that take a while to show up, because the body hasn't quite caught up to it yet.
Avatar m tn it runs along the thoracic spine but controls the right arm and shoulder and chest. I had neck surgery and damaged this nerve by getting into a car accident while wearing my neck brace. It hurts like the dickens and takes a long time to heal but if the therapy you are receiving is not targeting this and you do have this problem it will never get better. It is a particular little bugger.
Avatar n tn hi i had been suffering with constant pain like yours for over a year i googled in stretches for neck and shoulder pain and by god they really helped it all tension and doing the stretches for a few days days really worked also i used hot and cold packs hope you try this
Avatar n tn The tingling is now gone, but I still have upper back/shoulder blade pain and arm pain. The pain ususally starts in my upper back, then under my armpit, then my upper arm feels tight and starts to hurt and the pain then radiates down the front of my arm, under my wrist and sometimes into my hand. And I still feel as if my arm is weaker. Last night I had some muscle twitches in my shoulder and when I lean back to stretch my upper back my shoulder does hurt some.
