963964 tn?1319145218 People with thyroid problems should avoid things that will aggrevate their thyroid. For example, lots of broccoli, kale, cabbage are known as goitregens. Meaning they can cause the thyroid to swell up and become a goitre. Too much soy can also interfere with the natural processes of the thryoid. So really it is best to avoid foods like the above when having thyroid issues. Those who have had a thyroid removed will not have this problem.
Avatar f tn ) or any of those types constipate me. I was hoping for a natural suggestion to talk with my doctor about. They are not very informed with natural treatments of things and said they would talk with another doctor and let me know what they want to try next. I figured since I am on here I might as well ask if you know of natural treatments for FM so that I have a list in case they don't!
441381 tn?1208595760 thanks for the comment - I was kind of suspecting that there's not much out there :-) Think you're right about the dosage, though, I will have to go get that checked. Take care and happy easter!
Avatar n tn I've been asked to try a new multi vitamin that has iodine in it and I take levoxyl for Hashimoto's thyroiditis. They told me that it shouldn't affect my medicine but I would like to know for sure. Is there a cut off for how much iodine you can take? Or should I not take it at all?
Avatar f tn Armour thyroid and Nature Thyroid are both made from animal thyroid glands and as such some might consider them "natural". Well they are still manufactured and manipulated. But are from a natural base stock I guess. The synthetic hormones are chemically the same but are strictly man made from scratch. The magic is to find the right dose in the right combination of T4 and T3 that will get you free of symptoms. I say magic because it is not as simple as it sounds for some people.

Avatar f tn Selenium is shown to lower TPO thyroid antibodies. A full thyroid panel is recommended - TSH, free T3, free T4 and thyroid antibodies - thyroperoxidase antibody (TPOAb) and Thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb). The following are supplements found to help with your conditions... Mitochondria are the cellular energy generators that supply virtually all the power your body requires for a healthy life span.
Avatar f tn Medication must be at a stable dose for the patient to get the most out of what the vitamins in are suppose to do. If your thyroid is not adequently treated for your specific levels - a vit package can help but won't be your only source to help.
Avatar n tn My daughter just received some lab results back and has been referred to an endcrinologist for abnormal thyroid results. Her TSH is 1.85, indicated as normal, but her TT4 is 21.9 and her T3 is 255, both indicated as elevated. I am a little confused as I am trying to research the possible causes of this and I cant find any cause for a normal TSH and elevated T3 and T4. Anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar n tn It is treatable and it can be controlled, but it is cannot be cured. In your case, supplements and vitamins may help, but natural remedies are not going to cut it.

Avatar f tn s thyroiditis is a progressive disease where the thyroid antibodies begin to destroy natural thyroid gland protein cells. Those with very high elevations of thyroid antibodies may see faster cell destruction and damage to the thyroid gland. Selenium has been shown to lower TPO antibodies in clinical trials so you might also see an improvement in TPO antibody levels. Labs for hypothyroidism include: TSH, free T4, free T3, thyroid antibodies - TPOAb, TgAb, reverse T3.
Avatar f tn If you are not producing enough Thyroid hormone from your own thyroid gland, then the ONLY way to get additional hormone for your body to use is by Dr. prescription medication. PERIOD. Some vitamins and supplements can help or if deficient have similar symptoms as low thyroid. For example Vit D3 and Vit B-12 is common for people to be deficient which results in fatigue symptoms. Also Iron and Ferritin. Selenium is said to aid in the proper conversion of T4 into T3.

932747 tn?1247616635 I had a extreamly large substernal thyroid goiter removed a few weeks ago. They found an incendental papillary cancer, and I'm scheduled for another surgery to remove the rest of the thyroid. When I asked the surgeon what caused this very large goiter, she said it was probably an autoimmune issue. Just wondering what the "issue" could be, and should I be tested for other autoimmune disorders. Thanks!
Avatar f tn They can be helpful for many things, but I strongly believe exercise should be a natural process, not one pushed by supplements. That becomes unhealthy too much of the time as you move to more and more unnatural supplements that can work but aren't good for you because you aren't satisfied with the slow results that natural processes produce.
Avatar f tn The Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for iodine is 150mcg daily. The RDA is not for optimal health but to prevent obvious disease states such as rickets, scurvy, or a goiter for instance. The Tolerable Upper Limit (TUL) of iodine intake is 1100 mcg. Most people can tolerate at least 1000 mcg of iodine daily without adverse effects but those with autoimmune thyroid disease may tolerate less than this. Too much iodine produces a condition called iodine induced hyperthyroidism.
Avatar f tn No thanks. So I am using herbal oil treatments and masks, eating well, taking Biotin and many vitamins. Any other suggestions would be welcome. My thyroid levels are normal. Thanks so much.
865758 tn?1285952904 Thanks to both for your responses. I thought I heard somewhere that too much was also harmful but I have a friend who has hypothyroid (was never tested for autoimmune but I gather she has it since she also has alopecia). Anyway she was very frustrated with her endo because she never has felt good and is currently on disability. She has found a doc who is by the way a psychiatrist who prescribes "natural" supplements for thyroid disorders.
