937837 tn?1285350385 I have now started the canadian desiccated natural thyroid "thyroid". I have only been taking it for 3 days now, so not too much of a change in symptoms, but I will keep you posted. How are you since you started they new drugs?
Avatar f tn I switched three months ago to the natural compounded thyroid meds. OH MY what a difference. No more highs and lows...no more headaches. It is the first time I feel normal in over 3 years... I do not care what the studies show and I am not alone. Funny how the testing always seems to prove the synthetic meds are just as good...even better...maybe this occurrs because the test are done by the group supporting the pharma?
Avatar f tn I have been on Synthroid for about 17 years --- I had a thyroid-ectomy when I was a teenager. my levels have never been consistant so my dosages changes rather often! I am now looking into one of the replacement hormones that has both T3 and T4 , that are all natural! Has anyone made the switch? and how did it work out for you?
Avatar f tn How many of you out there are taking Synthroid everyday for their thyroid disorders? How many on Levothyroxine? Notice any difference between the two?
Avatar f tn t convert the T4 to T3, you either need to take natural thyroid meds like you are doing or else supplement synthroid with a synthetic T3 med. Out of curiosity: does your primary doc instruct you to take the Natur_thryoid in a couple of doses (since the T3 in it are used by the body fairly quickly)? Also: since you have been having these recent problems, see if your primary can order thryoid blood test, specifically free T3 and free T4 in addition to TSH.
Avatar n tn I hear that natural thyroid or dessicated thyroid (one of the popular brand is Armor) is actually a much better medication that a T4 only medication like Ultroxin. I myself want to start with it, but am looking for a doctor who I can work with on this.
Avatar n tn I have seen many on the patient to patient thyroid community see dramatic differences from generic vs. brand-name. They may never know why. I believe to be consistent when you take your meds, how long you wait to eat afterwards, when you have your bloodraws taken and that the same mfg. makes the meds. Just my 2 cents as a patient on 75mcgs name brand Synthroid. Synthroid may give coupons/discounts on their website if that is helpful.
1107393 tn?1263417738 Last year, the FDA determined that generic levothyroxine sodium drugs can be replacements for Synthroid and other brand-name thyroid medications because they're "bioequivalent" that is, essentially the same as their counterparts The American Association for Clinical Endocrinologists and the Endocrine Society, emphasize that, in general, they support generic drugs and the discounts they offer consumers and health providers.
Avatar n tn Agree with birdie. If you have anxiety associated with physical ailments, we can support. Aging issues may be bothering you. 'Natural' remedies no longer effective with various problems.
Avatar m tn I am sorry to hear that your thyroid problem came back. But at least you could enjoy an 11-year period without synthroid. My point is that if it is even the smallest chance to have thyroid function return, the doctors should use it. And not just blindly put the patient on the unnecessary drugs.Thank you.
Avatar n tn .75 vs .50 synthroid. My Dr. changed my rx from .75 to .50 synthroid. Does this mean my thyroid is less active?
535882 tn?1396576685 0) never came down, When I started being treated by an Endo he explained that Levothyroxine ( A Generic) was not as consistant as a Name Brand (Synthroid) he put me on Synthroid 100 mg and within 6 weeks my Tsh dropped to 0.078, now I am on 75 mg and due back at the end of May for another blood work. Although everyone is different, some do better on some drugs and some do not.
Avatar n tn I agree that there is debate over the use of generic vs brand name. I actually did better on generic levo than I did synthroid, but everyone is different.
Avatar m tn There was also biochemical evidence that thyroid hormone action was greater after treatment with natural thyroid rather than the synthetic. Can there really be that big of a difference between natural and synthetic? You bet. I learned the crucial difference when I opened my practice in Sarasota, Florida in 1962. I put all hypothyroid patients I treated on Synthroid. The results were disappointing to say the least. Many patients did not respond.
Avatar f tn That is because the total serum thyroid hormone level is comprised of both natural thyroid hormone from the gland, as well as any thyroid med you take. As you start on med, the TSH will be reduced and natural thyroid hormone production also reduced. So many find that their symptoms don't improve until their TSH drops low in the range and they are predominantly dependent on thyroid med to maintain their levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4.
Avatar f tn I have been on Thyrolar all of those 36 years except for a short test period when I was put on synthroid. During the time on synthroid I had mood swings, a general ill feeling. Just didn't feel like myself. Today I tried to refill my prescription and found that Thyrolar is not available and I am unsure if it will ever be available. I have an appointment to see my internist on Monday and would like to go armed with good information. My pharmacist recommended Synthroid with Cytomel.
Avatar n tn 19. The doctor is not concerned at all and does not intend to increase my med (Synthroid). I have been at the same level (150) since June '08. I'm wondering if I should check with another doctor, or if this level is okay.
Avatar f tn re correct that Levoxyl and Synthroid are separate brands of thyroid medication. Levothyroxine is the active ingredient for both of them; the difference is the inactive ingredients (fillers/binders and dyes) they each contain. Levothyroxine is also the generic for all brands of T4 medications. Inactive ingredients in Synthroid are: acacia, confectioner's sugar, D&C Red No. 27 & D&C Red No. 30, FD&C Blue No. 1, lactose, magnesium stearate, povidone, and talc.
