Nasal bactroban for mrsa

Common Questions and Answers about Nasal bactroban for mrsa

bactroban

Avatar m tn I presented with only one sore at my cheekbone and was given clindamycin orally for 14 days and Bactroban ointment for topical use. The sore was believed to be an early indication of MRSA. I quickly developed cellulitis and swelling near, but not touching, the apparent abscess, as well as blisters in my nose. I used the mupiricin.(Bactroban) to keep the nasal blisters moist. Now diagnosed with post-herpetic neuralgia, but I still have blisters in my nose treating with Bactroban.
1666982 tn?1445198395 ve had MRSA for almost ten years now. Originally I had over 50 boils, and no doctor had a clue. I saw like a million doctors and specialists, no one had a clue. I finally diagnosed myself and forced them to culture me, and it was positive.
Avatar m tn The doctors informed me that I am a MRSA carrier and I have to take antibiotics a week before and after any surgery. As for why the cysts always get infected, typically when the cyst is located at a high friction area like your groin or hips, it inflames the gland. Hope this helps. As far as preventing them, I haven't found anything that works. The doctor said I'm prone to them and will continue getting them for the rest of my life. It *****, but at least they're not cancerous.
974371 tn?1424653129 Next day the one on my arm was filled up again so called my PCP. He did a culture, prescribed generic Bactrim and generic Bactroban. I did as instructed and just finished the Bactrim. ( good thing I took it! I hate taking meds). Anyway, doctor called me this evening to say it was Staph/MRSA and the Bactrim was the right antibiotic. Scared the hell out of me ( ESP with all the news coverage of that poor girl).
Avatar f tn I have had 4 FESS over the years and was just diagnosed with MRSA in my sinuses. My MD started me on Bactrum 800 mg BID for 3 weeks and Bactroban nasal solution. I do sinus washes often and have increased recently. Any other suggestions?
Avatar f tn I have been to 3 different ENTs, one tested me for staph - came back moderate staph (not MRSA) and took Keflex for 10 days-no improvement. Tested again 5 days after last culture and came back negative. Said I should use Bacitracin for a year as Bactroban burned. (I am allergic to all antibiotics but 2 and most other drugs-happens over time) 2nd ENT said Bacitracin irritates and easy to get allergic to it. Already allergic to Neosporin.
Avatar n tn BUT THIS HAS GONE ON FOR TOO LONG NOW I WAS SCARED OF THAT , I WAS IN A LOCAL BAR AND THIS GUY CAME IN AND SAID , HE HAD JUST GOT OUT OF THE HOSPITAL FOR THE SAME THING MRSA ,HE HAD A CUT ON HIS FINGER , SO I JUST WOUNDER IF I CAUGHT IT FROM THERE ? Avatar n tn ( Do you know anything that will help me rid myself of this mrsa mess!!! I will be going in to the Dr. tomm to see about bactroban for my nose. I use dial regularly & keep a clean & disinfected home! ***** but I'm not gonna let it ruin my life. I have 3 beautiful sons & a loving Husband. All gifts from God! Avatar n tn Now, I am left scared about my children being infected by me, concerns for my eyes which after 9 days on Bactrim 4 per day for 10 days and a 5 day round of bactroban are really red and feel dry. I am scared the infection is in my eyes. Also, my blood pressure and pulse rate are great.. Sounds good but not what is customary for me. It was 115/65 - and 55 pulse. Normally I am around 125/80 and 80.. It is just scary that the change is occuring now. Can you please advise.
Avatar n tn This complicated problem has no easy answer. Among the questions I would have is are you a carrier of MRSA (i.e. have you had a nasal culture for staph, do you have any ongoing open wounds that might harbor staph). Your massive weight loss immediately says that the quality of your skin and underlying tissues is not normal or necessarily healthy. An infectious disease specialist might also be a resource to consult with about prophylactic antibiotic coverage.
Avatar n tn My daughter who is just graduated high school has had 4 cases of MRSA in the last 12 months. She was last treated with a nasal antibiotic; twice daily for 5 days. While cleaning her room I found 3 unused doses... will this make the treatment less effective & can the MRSA return? She also wants to get her belly button pierced which I think is unwise given her recent health history. Am I overreacting & what are the potential health risks?
Avatar f tn Mupirocin is the same as Bactroban. It is a nasal compound that my ENT has mixed for sinus infections. The eye is sore today. I have little vision in the eye. However, its pressure has risen, in the last few months, from from about 0 to fifteen. I will call my retinologist. Thank you.
Avatar f tn my baby had swabs and has been given anti biotics which is a nasal gel and a body wash... It is for mrsa... does that mean he will have re occurring mrsa forever or is it just that he has some of the bodies that are found in mrsa on him? Any advice please? Also surely if he has mrsa here is a high chance like myself and partner now also have it?
Avatar m tn I had a nasal swab test done four years ago which came back positive for staph aureus, though doctors did not mention MRSA. Over the next few years I went to other doctors and a dermatologist, given such medications as bactrim, clindamycin, doxycyclin, mupirocin ointment, etc. None have worked. I went to a primary care doctor last week who performed a general bacterial culture on one of the sores I squeezed and sent of to the lab.
Avatar n tn I have to go and have swabs done for MRSA tomorrow, has anyone had them? If so, where did they swab?

Avatar f tn Since you are negative for MRSA then doctornee has provided appropriate advice. If the infection is bacterial - and not viral - there should have been remission within four days of treatment. Unfortunately bacterial infections often piggyback on viral infections. The only suggestion I would have is to take grapefruit juice with the antibiotic, which will lengthen the half-life in the system. I didn't mean to get you scared, but the nasal swab in hospitals is primarily for MRSA.
Avatar m tn If those things are not the problem you may have resistance to the antibiotic they gave you. The treatment for community acquired MRSA (if you have that) is now daptomycin plus tigecycline. Otherwise, you can get resistance and the staph grows back. Also, once they treat you bleach down the sink and wash bedding and clean any areas that might have come in contact. Even disinfect your bike seat and don't go to the gym. You can get it there unless you are very careful.
Avatar n tn My friend is still in Hospital undergoing tests for MRSA waiting for 3 negative swab results before his bypass can be carried out, as recommended by the first surgeon he saw who has since gone off sick. He has been told today by yet another Doctor that he does not need a bypass! As a bypass normally only lasts 10 years on average and his first bypass was 14 years ago, and his symptoms are the same as before, just what is going on!
Avatar n tn The variety of strains, and treatments though are what I am not fully sure of. Currently I got a prescrition for Bactroban ointment. Per my request to my doctor, I don't know if it will work or not. But I know Bacitracin Ointment should NEVER be used on wounds with staph in them, as that is the type of stuff the staph is resisting and learning how to resist.
Avatar m tn ENT said I had some colonies in nose soUsed Bacrtoban for 3 days and slight pain in my nose went away per ENT. I stopped the bactroban after 3 days because I was not sleeping but I was also using Nasocort and maybe that was the culprit. Cold gone sinus not infected but having some pain that feels like a tooth ache and slight tickle or sting in nostrils when breathing. Left septum is a little enlarged.
Avatar f tn I continue with pain in the left buttock muscle, as well as most of my other joints. I tested positive for MRSA (nasal swab) and also tested positive for MRSA on my right ankle "rash". I finished 14 days of Doxycycline, the rash is somewhat better. The sores on the buttock were cultured and showed enterococcus faecalis (normal per the ID doc)...I'm at the end of my rope because nobody can give me any answers to my situation....fibromyalgia?
Avatar f tn Follow the package insert. And see if they go away. Mupirocin (Bactroban) topical will also kill MRSA (I think this is prescription only). So there are lots of topicals that can kill it if you actually got it. They probably would give you an oral pill if you are not allergic to sulfa drugs Bactrim works and many other antibiotics. So try not to worry just because it could be MRSA. I think you just have pimples.
1712590 tn?1352392772 Am looking for a ENT in my area to see if it is related to MRSA in the nares or from allergic reaction. This has only happened five times over last three years. I have been on a lot of antibiotics and meds that seem to have caused this reaction, but only after being diagnosed with MRSA.
Avatar m tn MRSA? I am 65 and live alone. I don't have illnesses [arthritis & hypothyroid]. Pre-surgically [for knee replacement] I had a nasal swab for Staph. IT WAS Positive!?! It was "colonized" or whatever. But between knowing this and never in my life ever having surgery caused me debilitating anxiety. I was given ointment to apply intra-nasally 2X a day for 5 days. I cancelled my left Total knee. My family is shunning me. I feel like a leper.
Avatar n tn For a very long time, a medicine called vancomycin has been the treatment of choice for infection with Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Now, other medicines seem to be more effective, including teicoplanin and linezolid. You might want to discuss this with her doctors and ask if consultation with an infectious disease specialist might be appropriate, given that this may be a recurrent Staph infection.
