A new review published in the journal Public Library of Science ONE confirms that Pandemrix, a swine flu vaccine produced by drug giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is responsible for causing an up to 1700 percent increase in narcolepsy among children and teenagers under 17 years of age. Based on their findings, a cohort of scientists has determined that narcolepsy rates increased significantly following mass vaccination campaigns with Pandemrix.

It can be caused by viruses or certain vaccines (for example, H1N1 vaccine was notorious for causing a swath of narcolepsy cases in children). I believe I am genetically predisposed and contracted narcolepsy after either my MMR or my T/D vaccine when I was a young teenager.

Have you heard of many cases of children getting optic neuritis and bells palsy at such a young age? Am I at a higher risk for MS or any other nerve condition because of my history of having these conditions when i was younger?

Thank you for your reply. Well, according to what I have been reading from other posts and what you have written about narcolepsy, I should stop denying to myself that I have narcolepsy. I just wish that I could find some kind of magic cure! I have medication that my neurologist prescribed for me, which we had to change 3 different times and than adjust and re-adjust the dosage until we got it right. Right now I take dextroamphetamine in 10 mg doses up to 4 times a day.

This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior. You will need to consult your primary care physician, who may schedule you for a polysomnogram (sleep test) to rule out sleep disorders and initiate appropriate therapy. feeling I have also had enormous trouble with sleep-which has just been diagnosed as Narcolepsy with Cataplexy, which could explain some of the fainting spells. I have had 5 lumbar punctures, which have indicated elevated incracranial pressure (ranging from 19-24 opening pressure), but the CSF fluid all came back clean-0 cell count in the fluid). The headache was temporarily relieved following the spinal taps, but only for about 24 hrs.

Hello, I recently discovered friable, breaking asbestos pipe insulation in my basement. We are going to have air quality testing done, and have considered dust wipe testing as well. I am extremely concerned for my family's health, including very young children, and would really appreciate any help you could provide! We stored the a/c units in the basement uncovered for at least one year, and covered for 2 additional years, using them in the summertime.

I know children are curious but is this normal for children at his age to talk about this? We only have 2 bdrms so that is why they share a room. We are both in shock and don't know what to do or how to handle it. Any advice would be great!

This is my 4th and I'm 42.. this has been by far the hardest pregnancy. I'm 32 weeks pregnant. My other children didn't phase me. Of course I was very young when I had my other children. background info: I'm a 21 year old female who has Acid Reflux and Narcolepsy. I stopped taking birth control recently because the medicine for narcolepsy makes it not work - I had been on it since I was 15 because of my heavy bleeding. When I was a baby I also had problems using the bathroom and I would become severally constipated. Recently, I have been having bright blood in my stool and streaking the paper and sometimes sharp pain.

As I got older, my sleep problems got worse. I still experience severe insomnia and problems calming down before bed. Now I'm suspected to have developed narcolepsy. I was diagnosed with narcolepsy approx. 5 yrs. ago. I haven't gone for another sleep study since, nor has my doctor seem to ever remember that I have narcolepsy. I am his only patient with narcolepsy, and if I ever end up in his office, it seems like he always forgets that I have narcolepsy. I don't believe he has a good understanding of this. Any suggestions. I am in the process of trying to switch my doctor, but in the meanwhile, I have been more tired lately than usual.

So my 8 year old son has had 4 sleep study been diagnosed with sleep apea, with narcoleptic symptoms. He sleeps all the time and has cataplexy episodes. He is over weight (142lbs) and eats healthier than most children. He is always tired so he don't do too much active stuff though I am constantly encouraging him to go ride his bike or got to the park. He has been on a cpap machine for 6 months with no improvement.
