427801 tn?1203844562 / the narcolepsy test is a series of 20 minute naps followed by 2 hour breaks where we must stay awake. as i understand it, if you fall asleep in any naps, you have narcolepsy, because its supposed to take a normal person 30-45 minutes (after falling asleep) to reach REM sleep. i managed to actually fall asleep 2-3 times and fell into REM sleep in undert 10 minutes 2 of the times.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with seizures and Narcolepsy too. I am like you though I am really unsure if I have either. First though the Lamicatal will give you sever diarrhea, or at least it did it too me. It also made me depressed. I also have a severe case of periodic limb movement disorder. When I have a naroleptic attack as soon as I get to the point of falling asleep I will have a huge full body spasm.
Avatar f tn I think I read somewhere that people with Narcolepsy should try to keep the levels above 350. But i am not sure.
Avatar f tn A night time sleep study followed by a daytime study would tell your certain wether or not you have Narcolepsy. Sometimes just having an actual diagnosis brings relief to the situation. Oh i have cataplexy - hey thats because I have Narcolepsy, then you can track what brings on the episodes and use caution during certain emotions. Some times something as small as frustration of someone throwing trash on the side of the road can bring on cataplexy.
Avatar f tn I have a friend who has narcolepsy. He has these hallucinations that he sees or hears something that aren't there. I experienced that one time, he was about to sleep but he suddenly woke up and asked me if I said something but I didn't. Hope you find the best cure for that. Because he? He still has it.
Avatar n tn The combination of this study and my first MSLT nap study produced a perfect pattern for diagnosis of Narcolepsy. Has there ever been a study to look at the coorelation between the 2 diseases. Would many CFS sufferers be classified narcoleptic if they took the appropriate test? Narcolepsy leads back to hippothalmus and lack of production of hypocretin/orexin(?). Seems like all things lead to hippothalmus. Thank you!
1287446 tn?1313947638 Hi everyone. I am not familiar with Narcolepsy or sleep disorders in general but my sleep has always been different. Typically, I fight daytime sleepiness with caffeine. In prior years, the caffeine has been a lot but I’ve lowered it significantly.
Avatar f tn Although the pt has RLS and PLMS, the arousal associated with these do not likely explain EDS- given a short overall sleep and REM latency, consider narcolepsy clinically. I had 156 arousals, 110 spontaneous, the rest due to limb movement. I also spent most of my sleep time in sleep stages 1 and 2, whith REM episodes scattered randomly. I had no time in stage 3, and when I had REM sleep it was from wake to REM with no progression through the other cycles.
Avatar f tn Having a diagnosis of narcolepsy can bring some complications such as getting insurance, possible driving restrictions, etc. However, the truth is the truth and I personally would want to know and be treated specifically for it. But you may want to get your business in order first, such as know what the legalities are in your state, and have an insurance plan in place that is not temporary.
Avatar m tn First of all, I'm sorry the doctor who ordered your testing didn't go more in depth in explaining the results to you. The information I'm going to give you here is based strictly upon the diagnostic criteria for different conditions; doctors use a combination of test results and diagnostic guidelines AND clinical expertise to reach diagnosis and treatment decisions, so there is no guarantee that this information pertains to your case in particular.
535822 tn?1443976780 A new review published in the journal Public Library of Science ONE confirms that Pandemrix, a swine flu vaccine produced by drug giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is responsible for causing an up to 1700 percent increase in narcolepsy among children and teenagers under 17 years of age. Based on their findings, a cohort of scientists has determined that narcolepsy rates increased significantly following mass vaccination campaigns with Pandemrix.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much, He has an appointment in July.
Avatar m tn Yes, narcolepsy can result in disturbed nighttime sleep. Narcolepsy can only be diagnosed with a multiple sleep latency test during the day (usually preceded by an all night sleep study). Dr.
Avatar n tn t have sleep apnea but it was narcolepsy. He never told me what I needed to do about it. Do you also know if people with this disorder have periods of sleep walking. I have walked in my sleep from time to time since I was a child but it seems to have suddenly multiplied in the last few years. I am now 56 and have had some very life changing events in my life during these last 3-4 years. I am wondering if these traumatic events could have caused the sleep walking to increase. I stay exhausted.
Avatar n tn You might want to inquire about having a full sleep study to rule out sleep apnea and/or narcolepsy. The sleep paralysis, hallucinations, and daytime sleepiness are hallmarks of narcolepsy. Narcolepsy isn't just suddenly collapsing in a state of sleep. I tell you this not as a medical professional, but as a person with narcolepsy. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn Some doctors hesitate to give you a diagnosis of narcolepsy because your driver's license may be revoked if the condition is severe enough.
Avatar f tn At 16, my daughter finally had a sleep study. She met the criteria for narcolepsy. What I find puzzling is that her sleep problems were already there in infancy. She did not sleep excessively at first -- just very erratically, in short pieces of time. Even at 6 months old I could put her on her back and she would suddenly be asleep for 5-15 minutes (in the middle of an activity). 1- Can a BABY have narcolepsy?
11941637 tn?1422287346 s or Lupus, has also been diagnosed with or shown symptoms of Narcolepsy. I have read recently that Narcolepsy has been determined to be auto-immune in nature, and wonder if the presence of one or both of these disorders in my genetics was the cause of my Narcolepsy. Has there been any research done on the subject?
