1764925 tn?1682604632 Hello, I recently had a sleep study done. I would like to know what it all means. I would be sincerely grateful if anyone out here can break it down for me. I am plagued with a voracious curiosity................Thanks :-) PSG Sleep Latency 3 Minute REM 410 Minute Stage I 14% Stage II 69% Stage III 12% REM remainder % 2 hypopneas no apneas index was 0.3; I had 3 limb movements and 106 spontaneous awakenings.
Avatar f tn s really a terrible thing to be diagnosed with this, since there really is no cure for it, so I really hope you find out it is something else that can be easily treated instead of narcolepsy!
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with seizures and Narcolepsy too. I am like you though I am really unsure if I have either. First though the Lamicatal will give you sever diarrhea, or at least it did it too me. It also made me depressed. I also have a severe case of periodic limb movement disorder. When I have a naroleptic attack as soon as I get to the point of falling asleep I will have a huge full body spasm.
Avatar m tn Narcolepsy is a serious neurological disorder involving excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy (loss of muscle tone with emotions such as laughter), sleep paralysis and hypnogogic hallucinations. Although narcolepsy affects 1 in every 2,000 people worldwide, it's often misdiagnosed or goes undiagnosed for 3 to 15 years. When will health professionals WAKE UP to the REAL narcolepsy?
Avatar n tn There is a chemical (orexin or hypocretin) responsible for wakefulness that narcoleptics lack, either from a congenital deformity or an immune response. It is not common for it to be genetic, but it is possible.
Avatar m tn Excessive sleepiness is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior. Also, Problems with breathing (Obstructive sleep apnea), certain medications, restless leg movements and sleep walking/talking could contribute to excessive sleepiness and tiredness.
Avatar f tn I have to do a sleep study next month to see if I have narcolepsy..... that is actually what introduced me to this site, I am doing a sleep journal. I did not realize until last night how many dang times I wake up at night. My doctor mentioned Ritalin. I am so worried about taking meds, I am so close to getting my 8 year old off Ritalin by going organic. I am also finding it oh so hard to keep up with 2 boys that are very high in energy.
1287446 tn?1313947638 In prior years, the caffeine has been a lot but I’ve lowered it significantly. I guess I am not sure what all I need to say… I work 8-5, and by 5:00 I’m exhausted and go home and sleep anywhere from 2-5 hours typically, waking up at night (usually) and staying up until anywhere from 2-4 am before getting another few hours of sleep. I’ve found this cycle works the best as far as getting me through the day and getting the most done.
Avatar f tn But, heat intolerance is not a problem with any nerve trouble, as the nurse said. It is specific to demyelination, as I understand it. I hope you get out of Limbo soon! And I hope to be right behind you! Limbo's a nice place to visit, but it's no fun to reside here long-term, that's for sure! Let's get outta here!
Avatar f tn When one has a MSLT- how long should one be off medications to obtain an accurate result? If the medicine is helping, is it worth it to to get a MSLT to have a proper diagnosis? I read that to have a MSLT, it's recommended to stop meds for up to two weeks, which whould shut me down for two weeks. In all honesty, I really don't care about a diagnosis anymore, I just want to be able to function normally again. I'm doing my best to practice good sleep hygeine.
149081 tn?1242397832 It's been a while since I've been here but I know I can count on this forum for some great advice and game plans. For those who don't remember or are new I had a TT in 2006 ( non cancerous hurthle cell neoplasms was the final dx). My latest labs show I am hypo again but my endo won't increase my meds because he does not believe my symptoms are thyroid. I also have Narcolepsy so symptoms of fatigue and brain fog do flow in a gray area for thyroid treatment.
Avatar n tn I fell asleep in all 4 of my naps and entered REM in 30 secs. on one of them. My average fall asleep time or sleep latency was 3.6 mins and average time to enter REM was 5.4 mins. This was my first time having MSLT, but my other 3 overnight sleep test pretty consistent. I get more REM than I need though, but no Stage 3 or 4. My 2nd sleep test was performed taking 4.5 ml of Xyrem at bedtime and again at around 2:00 am and I still got less than 5 minutes of Stage 3 or 4 sleep.
612876 tn?1355514495 narcolepsy please I need to know everything there is to know I cannot find all the answers to my questions on the Internet.
1704625 tn?1310708761 There is really no "diet” for kidney stones. If a person takes very high doses of vitamin C, kidney stones have been known to develop. To help prevent possible kidney stones is to drink the daily-recommended fluid amounts of 8+ glasses (8oz or more) of water so your body is properly hydrated. To eat healthy and help your narcolepsy, suggest your protein sources be meats and fish instead of beans.
427801 tn?1203844562 For me it has gotten so bad that if I take a drive on the highway longer than an hour I MUST get a 24oz coffee and an energy drink (I stay sugar free to prevent crash as well). But even then, Im still dosing off. It doesnt matter what time of day it is, how much sleep I got the night before, or how wide awake I was prior to the trip. Ive tried rolling the windows down in the dead of winter, blasting my stereo, turning off my stereo, slapping myself HARD in the face multiple times.
Avatar f tn Ideally you would have an overnight sleep study followed by an all day nap study to be assessed for narcolepsy. It is possible to have other sleep disorders that result in symptoms that mimick narcolepsy. That happened with me. I may still have a mild case of narcolepsy, but the worst of the symptoms have responded to treatment of the other disorders. I personally would want to know if I was in danger of having a sleep attack and hurting myself or someone else.
Avatar m tn s probably associated with narcolepsy. The only way to be sure is to have it checked out by a neurologist. They could order an EMG to evaluate nerve conduction in certain areas that you feel muscle numbness to see what's going on, or an brain MRI if necessary. Keep me posted if you decide to follow-up on this! And good luck with your narcolepsy. I know first-hand how rough of a disease it is to manage on a daily basis.
Avatar f tn I have Narcolepsy- My vitamin B 12 level is 235- should it be higher for my condition?
Avatar f tn I can sleep at amytime for brief periods but when I am sleepy I can usually control forced staying awake. Is it possible to have narcolepsy without that symptom. Or am I under a misconception about that? Thankyou very much for your time and concern!
Avatar f tn I went undiagnosed for about 15 years, until I finally saw a sleep specialist and she nailed the diagnosis right away. The vast majority of doctors have absolutely no idea what it is or what it looks like, and no routine lab tests, MRI, CT scan, x-ray or anything of that nature will detect it. 75% of people with narcolepsy never get diagnosed in their lifetime. It doesn't look the way you think it looks. Common misdiagnoses in adults are depression, epilepsy, and migraines.
Avatar f tn (Thinking to myself ... geesh is this guy a jerk .... this is like asking a parent to say what child is their favorite ... how can I possibly decide...) I have to give three .... Dr: I will only take one .... Me: (Thinking to myself ... geesh .... lazy dr .... but ok, top priorities (1) my legs don't work (2) my arms don't work (3) I'm so tired I can't do anything. Legs aren't as bad as they have been so knock those out of consideration.
Avatar n tn has anyone heard what vaccination is reportedly linked to narcolepsy? i saw a show yesterday about narcolepsy and they mentioned a vaccination was given to a 13 year old girl and 2 hours later she was experiencing cataplexly (a paralyzing catatonic state that is a symptom of narcolepsy) but they did not say which vaccination.
Avatar m tn I never randomly fall asleep during the day (but I am on ambien every night so that might be helping). Is it possible to have narcolepsy without falling asleep during the day? Thanks!
Avatar n tn It's hard to say without more specific details on your sleep study, but based on what you've relayed, it doesn't sound like you have any significant apneas. What is your AHI? It does sound like you have have a minor variant of sleep apnea called upper airway resistance syndrome. Both conditions (OSA and UARS) are caused by anatomic factors—mainly due to your mouth (jaws) being too small (unless you're severely overweight).
