When the doctor told me I had hypersomnia I asked if he was sure it was not narcolepsy. He told me one of the differences is naps help people with narcolepsy, but not those with hypersomnia. And napping never made sense to me, because it did nothing to relieve the tiredness. Also with hypersomnia you get really good sleep, but for some reason you need more of it. Hopefully you have a sleep study soon, so that you can get your answers.

You are going to cause yourself to have heart problems do to the excessive amount of caffeine. Its bad enough that you run the risk of heart problems with Phentermine but adding energy drinks to that just adds to the risk. I took Phentermine for a while. I never drank energy drinks because I cant stand them but I now have heart problems because of the Phentermine.

I know this is an old post but am hoping that you get this message. I was just diagnosed with Narcolepsy also and I am a recovering Meth addict. My doc knows my history and I am struggling to get the appropriate help here.

i was wondering if i should be tested for narcolepsy, or if diagnosed with narcolepsy would they prescribe me to something similar to adderrall? if this were the case, being tested would not matter much if they would give me the same medications anyways. I just dont want to be misdiagnosed and on the wrong medication for the rest of my life.

I had symptoms very much like yours but I had a doctor who refused to label it narcolepsy until I had been thoroughly tested with an overnight sleep study. Even after treating my sleep disorders (OSA & PLMD), the doctor requires that I am consistently getting more than 6 hours of proven quality sleep over a period of time before considering a diagnosis of narcolepsy.

Does anyone here have experience with Phentermine? My doctor let me talk him into it for weight loss last June. It's supposed to be only taken for 8-12 weeks, but since I've kept losing weight and my blood pressure stays low, he's kept refilling my prescription. I take 37.5 mg once a day. I know this drug is a stimulant, etc. and it can become addictive. Every once in a while-- like today-- I don't take it, just to see if *not* taking it bugs me.

I'm in the process of switching to a new dentist and the new patient form I had to fill out asked "Have you ever taken any combination of the drug known as 'fen-phen'. My husband was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy about 5 years ago and the narcolepsy is under control with 200 mg of Provigil. He had hypnogogic hallucinations, body jerks when falling sleep, imaginary conversations with no one, talked in his sleep, fell asleep driving, talking and even in activities you'd never imagine a male would fall asleep. Did you have to stay after your overnight study and do another one that lasted into the afternoon where they ask you to nap over and over again? I personally think it might be worthwhile to inquire about whether you meet the diagnostic criteria for Idiopathic Hypersomnia. Nuvigil is a medicine used to treat IH as well as narcolepsy, so it would fit with what the doctor has prescribed already.

m curious why more studies have not been conducted to study the correlation between phentermine and acne? Acne is not listed as a possible side effect of phentermine, but phentermine is considered a methamphetamine; methamphetamines are known to causes acne. I am a biology teacher and am frustrated that medical professionals are not confirming the overwhelming reports of acne being associated with phentermine. Is it a conspiracy????

Hey Jenn I just saw your post. I too have a similar history of taking Phentermine with severe depression a year later. How are your symptoms now?

t know if this same answer will fit, but I wanted to share in case this information could possibly help someone else who is experiencing this paralysis. Apparently, I have narcolepsy (with cataplexy); by taking a very detailed history all the way back into my early childhood, they were able to determine that I had the narcolepsy BEFORE I had POTS, but the cataplexy only showed up when I started having syncope.
