Narcolepsy treatment with phentermine

Common Questions and Answers about Narcolepsy treatment with phentermine

narcolepsy

Avatar f tn When the doctor told me I had hypersomnia I asked if he was sure it was not narcolepsy. He told me one of the differences is naps help people with narcolepsy, but not those with hypersomnia. And napping never made sense to me, because it did nothing to relieve the tiredness. Also with hypersomnia you get really good sleep, but for some reason you need more of it. Hopefully you have a sleep study soon, so that you can get your answers.
Avatar f tn You are going to cause yourself to have heart problems do to the excessive amount of caffeine. Its bad enough that you run the risk of heart problems with Phentermine but adding energy drinks to that just adds to the risk. I took Phentermine for a while. I never drank energy drinks because I cant stand them but I now have heart problems because of the Phentermine.
4592241 tn?1359813138 I know this is an old post but am hoping that you get this message. I was just diagnosed with Narcolepsy also and I am a recovering Meth addict. My doc knows my history and I am struggling to get the appropriate help here.
Avatar f tn Hello, Lifestyle treatment of narcolepsy includes taking three or more scheduled naps throughout the day. Patients should also avoid heavy meals and alcohol, which can interfere with sleep. Drugs which have been used for narcolepsy are Modafinil (Provigil) or Armodafinil. You should try the lifestyle measures first before going in for medicines.
1397822 tn?1294279534 Phentermine is a sympathomimetic amine with pharmacologic activity similar to amphetamines. Actions include central nervous system stimulation and elevation of blood pressure. As with other medications in this class mood effects are quite variable. But there are case reports of mania and psychosis, so it probably does have somewhat of a "mood elevating" effect.
Avatar f tn i was wondering if i should be tested for narcolepsy, or if diagnosed with narcolepsy would they prescribe me to something similar to adderrall? if this were the case, being tested would not matter much if they would give me the same medications anyways. I just dont want to be misdiagnosed and on the wrong medication for the rest of my life.
Avatar f tn I had symptoms very much like yours but I had a doctor who refused to label it narcolepsy until I had been thoroughly tested with an overnight sleep study. Even after treating my sleep disorders (OSA & PLMD), the doctor requires that I am consistently getting more than 6 hours of proven quality sleep over a period of time before considering a diagnosis of narcolepsy.
Avatar f tn Does anyone here have experience with Phentermine? My doctor let me talk him into it for weight loss last June. It's supposed to be only taken for 8-12 weeks, but since I've kept losing weight and my blood pressure stays low, he's kept refilling my prescription. I take 37.5 mg once a day. I know this drug is a stimulant, etc. and it can become addictive. Every once in a while-- like today-- I don't take it, just to see if *not* taking it bugs me.
Avatar m tn Only the combination of phentermine with fenfluramine (also known as fen-fen or Redux) is associated with an increased risk of PH. And even then, the majority of those who used this diet pill did not develop the disease. So, I would not be worried if she used phentermine alone. But please heed my simple advice: She needs to be evaluated by a specialist and, if she has PH, she needs to be on appropriate treatment and followed closely by a PH specialty center. Dr.

Avatar n tn I'm in the process of switching to a new dentist and the new patient form I had to fill out asked "Have you ever taken any combination of the drug known as 'fen-phen'. This includes phentermine (Adipex, Fastin, etc) and/or fenfluramine (Pondimin)." What does it matter if I have taken this? I haven't taken fen-phen, but I have and do occasionally take phentermine?
1745492 tn?1320198340 My husband was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy about 5 years ago and the narcolepsy is under control with 200 mg of Provigil. He had hypnogogic hallucinations, body jerks when falling sleep, imaginary conversations with no one, talked in his sleep, fell asleep driving, talking and even in activities you'd never imagine a male would fall asleep. He appears to always have had it since about puberty but it got worse as his sleep apnea did.
Avatar f tn You need to find a sleep center with expertise in narcolepsy where you can be evaluated and treated. Dr.
Avatar f tn Usually low, key, happy person. Was diagnosed with Hypothyrodism 2 1/2 yrs ago. In August 2010, finally got my levels to be within normal limits. Was starting to feel better, but Dr. gave me generic Wellbutrin (125) because i couldn't stop crying. Felt like I was starting to go crazy. Went back in Dec 2010 and labs showed that my thyroid levels were completely out of whack. Dr. increased my levoxyl to 125 and generic Wellbutin to 300.
Avatar m tn After LOTS of tests I started doing my own research on sleep disorders because I was very tired during the day, but was also not sleeping well when I was asleep. I was finally diagnosed with Narcolepsy with cataplexy but my cataplexy symptoms have called down alot over the years.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with narcolepsy approx. 5 yrs. ago. I haven't gone for another sleep study since, nor has my doctor seem to ever remember that I have narcolepsy. I am his only patient with narcolepsy, and if I ever end up in his office, it seems like he always forgets that I have narcolepsy. I don't believe he has a good understanding of this. Any suggestions. I am in the process of trying to switch my doctor, but in the meanwhile, I have been more tired lately than usual.
Avatar f tn You see results the first day . But the thing was I kept going off and on with the phentermine pill . The detox was last result . I admit I was stubborn and wanted to lose weight. And every time I would go back on the phen pill the hives got worst. So please do the cleans diet . The paste. And the steroid pill. Never go back to the phen pill again . I did lose weight it was great but the side effects was totally not worth it even hives on my face !
Avatar m tn ) that you need to (pass/fail ... not sure how to put that) before getting diagnosed with narcolepsy. Did you have to stay after your overnight study and do another one that lasted into the afternoon where they ask you to nap over and over again? I personally think it might be worthwhile to inquire about whether you meet the diagnostic criteria for Idiopathic Hypersomnia. Nuvigil is a medicine used to treat IH as well as narcolepsy, so it would fit with what the doctor has prescribed already.
Avatar n tn m curious why more studies have not been conducted to study the correlation between phentermine and acne? Acne is not listed as a possible side effect of phentermine, but phentermine is considered a methamphetamine; methamphetamines are known to causes acne. I am a biology teacher and am frustrated that medical professionals are not confirming the overwhelming reports of acne being associated with phentermine. Is it a conspiracy????
Avatar f tn Hey Jenn I just saw your post. I too have a similar history of taking Phentermine with severe depression a year later. How are your symptoms now?
612876 tn?1355514495 t know if this same answer will fit, but I wanted to share in case this information could possibly help someone else who is experiencing this paralysis. Apparently, I have narcolepsy (with cataplexy); by taking a very detailed history all the way back into my early childhood, they were able to determine that I had the narcolepsy BEFORE I had POTS, but the cataplexy only showed up when I started having syncope.
