589816 tn?1332976771 t be easy at times, but the advances in our understanding of the disease as well as the treatment options have been phenomenal in the past few decades. As long as he finds a medication regimen that works and makes a few lifestyle changes, he should have no problem. There's a great narcolepsy community and forum on the Narcolepsy Network site (just search for it on Google; you'll have to register a username to comment).
Avatar f tn I hate not knowing and trying to find ways to make it through the day. Also you might want to look at narcolepsy. I thought I might have Narcolepsy, since I have the hullicinations sometimes. When the doctor told me I had hypersomnia I asked if he was sure it was not narcolepsy. He told me one of the differences is naps help people with narcolepsy, but not those with hypersomnia. And napping never made sense to me, because it did nothing to relieve the tiredness.
Avatar f tn Hello, Lifestyle treatment of narcolepsy includes taking three or more scheduled naps throughout the day. Patients should also avoid heavy meals and alcohol, which can interfere with sleep. Drugs which have been used for narcolepsy are Modafinil (Provigil) or Armodafinil. You should try the lifestyle measures first before going in for medicines.

612876 tn?1355514495 Hey all, I have a question for those of you with experience battling gastroparesis. I am just having a miserable time with my stomach. The Ensure Plus shakes, even with only drinking half of one (4 oz.) at a time, are still leaving me feeling MISERABLY bloated and full, sometimes for several hours afterward. Of course, I'm still taking in my fluids in the meantime, and I think that's sloshing around in there too to be honest. It's hard to explain to a healthy person how 4 oz.
871962 tn?1244730028 Think about adding medications, treatments and other issues relating to narcolepsy and hypersomnias to your sleep tracker. Insomnia and sleep apnea may be common sleep disorders, but not the only ones.
Avatar f tn I am 46 yrs old I have been Dx with EDD/narcolepsy and following recent sleep studies with central sleep apnoea. I have been on modofanil for 12 yrs . I am now on maximum dose of this and while it makes life semi bearable I have days where I am so tired it is difficult to describe. I have no idea wht to do next , whether to go back to sleep clinic or go see the neurologist or just soldier on . Seems to be the end result of most interventions anyways.
Avatar f tn I would like to see Narcolepsy added to at least one tracker. I have been unable to find any resources for this other than the sleep tracker, and the options for entering medications are limited to ones for sleep. There should be a tracker that allows you to input symptoms of narcolepsy (which seems to be somewhat of an unknown disorder) that lets you input symptoms such as cataplexy, automatic behavior, medications (such as Ritalin), and scheduled nap times.
Avatar m tn Today I saw my doctor who was quite refreshed from rest at home. He recommended two treatment options, one is injection once a week and the other is baraclude by mouth once daily. Because the former has side effects that may cause me (the bread earner of my family) to stop working, I immediately chose the latter, which costs $2200 per 90 days. Would appreciate your sharing your experience if you have used baraclude before. Thank you.
1135532 tn?1265056071 Interferon in combination with ribivirin is the current standard of care (SOC) for HCV treatment. Research goals are to find a different treatment than interferon but that is probably many years away. If patient tested positive to antibodies for HCV but a PCR test to detect RNA of the virus in the blood comes back negative, no treatment is necessary.
