729135 tn?1247495402 Over time, diagnoses sometimes change when additional evidence or symptoms appear. Regarding genetic testing for narcolepsy, positive test results indicate a susceptibility to narcolepsy but do not definatively diagnose narcolepsy. Positive genetic tests results are used to support a clinical diagnosis of narcolepsy. We recommend that you speak with your doctor regarding your symptoms and test results as well as to discuss the most appropriate course of treatment for your specific situation.
11941637 tn?1422287346 s or Lupus, has also been diagnosed with or shown symptoms of Narcolepsy. I have read recently that Narcolepsy has been determined to be auto-immune in nature, and wonder if the presence of one or both of these disorders in my genetics was the cause of my Narcolepsy. Has there been any research done on the subject?
807506 tn?1248649733 This has been a proven way of testing hormone levels more accurately than with blood testing. It was through a lab called Aeron. Here is their link: http://www.aeron.com/ I hope this helps you and if I were you, I would call my doctor on his incompetance on either not knowing or lieing to you about this.
4592241 tn?1359813138 I recently fell asleep driving on the freeway and that was the final straw. I saw a specialist last week and had testing..he diagnosed me with EDS...and wants to put me on a narcolepsy medication. I am terrified that I will become addicted to these meds. This will compromise my sobriety, and feel like Im screwed. Is this cheating or what??? Also wondering if my history of drug use and meth use for 10 yrs in my 20's had caused this to happen.
Avatar f tn Diagnosed with Narcolepsy. Have history of pituitary microadnoma high prolactin. PCOD historectamy 2002 On dostinex. Can something in my brain cause this. I am now on ritalin 20SR twice a day. Awake but body still tired. Also that thyroid medication had it irradiated a year ago Due to high levels. Is there any other answer for sleeping so much. Avatar f tn t been doing so well, having a hard time dealing with things... but, I was just wondering, if narcolepsy is a common thing with Chiari 1, or if any of you happen to have it? I have tried to do some googling on it but, I haven't found too much on it.. most everything I found is on apnea.
Avatar f tn He will collapse everywhere, when he does, he does not protect himself and he has gotten hurt. We had him in the hospital for 4 days for observation and testing. His heart checks out fine. The video EEG showed nothing. The MRI showed some spots that 'may' be consistent with MS, but the doctors made the decision that we would follow that up in six months with another MRI. They are now suggesting that his problem is narcolepsy and cataplexy.
Avatar f tn Not too noticeable, but I have read that Bells Palsy that is not complete should go away within a few weeks, mine has been over a month. When I went to an urgent care they would not recommend an MRI or any other testing (probably because I have no insurance). I am worried that this could be a bigger problem than Bells. Also my eyelid on the not-bells side has been twitching for three weeks, possibly from anxiety but should I worry about the twitch and the fact that the bells has not improved?
149081 tn?1242397832 t increase my meds because he does not believe my symptoms are thyroid. I also have Narcolepsy so symptoms of fatigue and brain fog do flow in a gray area for thyroid treatment. My latest labs are as follows: TSH - 2.15 range for this lab is .47 - 5.0 FT4- 0.58 range 0.64 - 1.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with Fibro (6months ago) , Lupus (16yrs ago), and ongoing testing for Nacrolepsy..Can someone tell me if they all fit together somehow? The lupus was not treated for many years, when I had flares (or what I thought were flares) I would take time off, get lots of rest and go see my primary doc who would prescribe the all curing Prednisone.
Avatar f tn I am diagnosis with narcolepsy and have had symptoms for 5 years now. I have been taking 500 mg. of nuvigil for over 2 years. Plus, 60 mg of adderall a day. My symptoms have slowed down a little, but I have to take 2 naps a day and not drive anywhere. I have sleep studies twice a year and it seems to get worse each time. Its very aggravating to me! It seems like something would help. I see a team of specialists at Vanderbilt, but I need something else, but what? Anyone have any suggestions?
1287446 tn?1313947638 Hi everyone. I am not familiar with Narcolepsy or sleep disorders in general but my sleep has always been different. Typically, I fight daytime sleepiness with caffeine. In prior years, the caffeine has been a lot but I’ve lowered it significantly.
Avatar f tn I have Narcolepsy- My vitamin B 12 level is 235- should it be higher for my condition?
Avatar f tn Although the pt has RLS and PLMS, the arousal associated with these do not likely explain EDS- given a short overall sleep and REM latency, consider narcolepsy clinically. I had 156 arousals, 110 spontaneous, the rest due to limb movement. I also spent most of my sleep time in sleep stages 1 and 2, whith REM episodes scattered randomly. I had no time in stage 3, and when I had REM sleep it was from wake to REM with no progression through the other cycles.
Avatar n tn The combination of this study and my first MSLT nap study produced a perfect pattern for diagnosis of Narcolepsy. Has there ever been a study to look at the coorelation between the 2 diseases. Would many CFS sufferers be classified narcoleptic if they took the appropriate test? Narcolepsy leads back to hippothalmus and lack of production of hypocretin/orexin(?). Seems like all things lead to hippothalmus. Thank you!
Avatar f tn i was wondering if i should be tested for narcolepsy, or if diagnosed with narcolepsy would they prescribe me to something similar to adderrall? if this were the case, being tested would not matter much if they would give me the same medications anyways. I just dont want to be misdiagnosed and on the wrong medication for the rest of my life.
Avatar f tn Well I checked back in with the genius neuro that dx me with narcolepsy & cataplexy. Today was the scheduled EMG of my legs. The EMG of my legs was normal. That is good. That means no obvious muscular or nerve disorder. And I used the time of the EMG testing to go through my long list of questions! The doc was impressed! (I had been scribbling notes on the back of evelopes. Now I have an excel file that I use to track my doctor appts.
535822 tn?1443976780 A new review published in the journal Public Library of Science ONE confirms that Pandemrix, a swine flu vaccine produced by drug giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is responsible for causing an up to 1700 percent increase in narcolepsy among children and teenagers under 17 years of age. Based on their findings, a cohort of scientists has determined that narcolepsy rates increased significantly following mass vaccination campaigns with Pandemrix.
Avatar m tn Yes, narcolepsy can result in disturbed nighttime sleep. Narcolepsy can only be diagnosed with a multiple sleep latency test during the day (usually preceded by an all night sleep study). Dr.
1745492 tn?1320198340 My husband was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy about 5 years ago and the narcolepsy is under control with 200 mg of Provigil. He had hypnogogic hallucinations, body jerks when falling sleep, imaginary conversations with no one, talked in his sleep, fell asleep driving, talking and even in activities you'd never imagine a male would fall asleep. He appears to always have had it since about puberty but it got worse as his sleep apnea did.
Avatar n tn has anyone heard what vaccination is reportedly linked to narcolepsy? i saw a show yesterday about narcolepsy and they mentioned a vaccination was given to a 13 year old girl and 2 hours later she was experiencing cataplexly (a paralyzing catatonic state that is a symptom of narcolepsy) but they did not say which vaccination.
Avatar m tn and at the same time it should not be happening. i do have narcolepsy and the reason i add this is because i know this in itself has a lot of symptoms ie cataplexy sleep paralysis.
