Common Questions and Answers about Narcolepsy symptoms stress

narcolepsy

1745492 tn?1320198340 I have symptoms that some people say are consistent with narcolepsy. However, all I have seen are people with severe narcolepsy, and I'm not as bad as them. I do have very vivid dreams that can be stressful to me. I can write whole books on my dreams because they are so vivid. They are so stressful sometimes that I wake up sweating. I can fall asleep quick. As in I can take an short nap, say an hour, and still dream. I do not sleep well at night and have very interrupted sleep.
Avatar f tn t mention it but the second most commonly associated symptoms of Narcolepsy is Cataplexy, this basically causes sudden loss of muscle tone, weakness and loss of voluntary muscle control. IF you don't have a specific medical explanation, it's 'possible' for you to also be experiencing mini cataplexic attacks to explain the muscle and foot lift/drop issues......I would highly recommend you consider consulting with a health care provider that specialises in Narcolepsy.
Avatar n tn When I was 10 it was thought that I might have narcolepsy. Although no doctor could ever diagnose this, I suffered for many years and eventually outgrew it. I am now 37 and realize my sleep issues are still affecting my life and are rapidly getting worse. I am not depressed. I do have stress and anxiety in my life, although most of us do. But no matter how much or how little sleep I get, I am never rested. I can take a hour nap at work around lunchtime and by 3pm be falling asleep again.
Avatar f tn I also have narcolepsy. I was diagnosed in 2005, but fought for 9 years to figure out what was wrong with me. My situation began in 1996, when I was 17 y/o and somehow got sick with mono. Since then, I've never been the same person. Yet, every time I explained to the doctors how I was feeling, it seemed like no one wanted to believe me or that I could be sooooooo incredibly tired/wanting to sleep all the time, especially because I was only in my late teens-early 20's.
Avatar n tn I had it with just sleepiness during the day and what looked like insomnia at night for probably about 15-20 years before I ended up with more serious symptoms of narcolepsy that actually included cataplexy (random muscle weakness that can either be isolated, or widespread). Onset is typically in teenage or early adult years but it can come later, too.
Avatar n tn Seeing or hearing things when you’re drowsy or starting to dream before you’re fully asleep Suddenly feeling weak or losing control of your muscles when you’re laughing, angry, or experiencing other strong emotions Dreaming right away after going to sleep or having intense dreams Feeling paralyzed and unable to move when you’re waking up or dozing off Circadian rhythm sleep disorders We all have an internal biological clock that regulates our 24-hour sleep-wake cycle, also known as our circad
Avatar n tn You need to get a second opinion for sleep apnea considering your symptoms. Have you checked your blood pressure and blood sugar? Day to day stress and strain can cause soreness of body. Short outings on weekend or family get-together can make you more active. Do morning-evening walk, stretches, have nutritious diet with lot of water or other liquids, have hot shower and listen to soft music before going to bed, these can be soothing to mind and body so it may be of some help.
Avatar f tn I am diagnosis with narcolepsy and have had symptoms for 5 years now. I have been taking 500 mg. of nuvigil for over 2 years. Plus, 60 mg of adderall a day. My symptoms have slowed down a little, but I have to take 2 naps a day and not drive anywhere. I have sleep studies twice a year and it seems to get worse each time. Its very aggravating to me! It seems like something would help. I see a team of specialists at Vanderbilt, but I need something else, but what? Anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar f tn The pain in the joints sounds like arthritis (I have ankylosing spomdalitis ) yes young people get arthritis!! too. A lot of other symptoms as a result of stress caused by poor health esspecially in someone young like you.Good luck ,keep seeking help, I tried a number of doctors over the years before getting on to one who seemed to understand me.
Avatar f tn -cataplexy (feeling weak/loss of muscle tone after strong emotion especially laughter) -sleep attacks (uncontrollable urge to sleep during the day) -hypnagogic hallucinations (intense dream like state on falling asleep or waking) -sleep paralysis (inability to move upon falling asleep or waking) -microsleeps (falling asleep for a split second, usually continue with whatever action you are doing without interruption)
1287446 tn?1313947638 Narcolepsy must have catoplexy in order to qualify as narcolepsy. Sleep studies are worthless. Doctors are worthless, clueless idiots that think spending enough money to put their children through medical school is the answer to every patient's problem, so you should just go get better insurance so they can keep charging more and more.
Avatar f tn Go to a neurologist specialing in sleep medicine. Frequent awakenings are a hallmark of several disorders, including sleep apnea and narcolepsy. If you find yourself waking up with headaches, having cold sweats or feeling out of breath, apnea is a real possibility. Try sleeping on your side and if you have a stuffy nose, get some afrin to use only at night. I have narcolepsy and had pretty much identical symptoms to yours. It's not like on TV. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn Do your symptoms match with peripheral neuropathy? I have narcolepsy, too, and I actually get some random numbness (not weakness) and tingling at times, but I have a host of other neurological symptoms that can be linked to a pineal cyst and two venous malformations. Narcolepsy is believed to be an autoimmune disease, although this hasn't been confirmed.
729135 tn?1247495402 Over time, diagnoses sometimes change when additional evidence or symptoms appear. Regarding genetic testing for narcolepsy, positive test results indicate a susceptibility to narcolepsy but do not definatively diagnose narcolepsy. Positive genetic tests results are used to support a clinical diagnosis of narcolepsy. We recommend that you speak with your doctor regarding your symptoms and test results as well as to discuss the most appropriate course of treatment for your specific situation.
Avatar f tn I've been dealing with a form of dysautonomia since 2006, it has now turned into pots. I'm scheduled for a pacemaker right before Thanksgiving. I wear the stockings, eat salt and massive water. I have extreme fatigue regardless of what I do...no anemia...take b12, vit d is ok..but the past 6-8 months I've experienced extreme sleepiness almost to the narcolepsy degree..my life which was already fractured due to the other horrible symptoms has pretty much come to a stand still...
Avatar n tn has anyone heard what vaccination is reportedly linked to narcolepsy? i saw a show yesterday about narcolepsy and they mentioned a vaccination was given to a 13 year old girl and 2 hours later she was experiencing cataplexly (a paralyzing catatonic state that is a symptom of narcolepsy) but they did not say which vaccination.
Avatar m tn Yes, narcolepsy can result in disturbed nighttime sleep. Narcolepsy can only be diagnosed with a multiple sleep latency test during the day (usually preceded by an all night sleep study). Dr.
Avatar f tn You may get lot more information regarding the cause, symptoms, necessary investigations and treatment of narcolepsy as you go through this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcolepsy Are you suffering from narcolepsy? Take care and share your thoughts.
Avatar f tn I was reading up about it and this lead me to read about Narcolepsy as Cataplexy is a unique symptom to this condition. I read about the symptoms and I am now afraid that I may be suffering from it. I have very vivid and sometimes lucid dreams and I wake up almost every hour of the night for short spans of time. Sometimes I cannot tell my dreams from reality and I often hear noises and see things during the night that aren't really there.
Avatar f tn It is entirely possible to have narcolepsy given your symptoms. The disease manifests differently from person to person, and it progresses with time (usually worsening, then improving in some).
Avatar f tn Sleep paralysis is associated with narcolepsy to some degree. I feel it can often be brought about by stress/panic. Try sleeping on your stomach instead, this may resolve your sleep paralysis completely. Personally, I didn't like the things I saw or felt, so I would wake myself up as fast as possible... God bless.
Avatar m tn Narcolepsy is a serious neurological disorder involving excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy (loss of muscle tone with emotions such as laughter), sleep paralysis and hypnogogic hallucinations. Although narcolepsy affects 1 in every 2,000 people worldwide, it's often misdiagnosed or goes undiagnosed for 3 to 15 years. When will health professionals WAKE UP to the REAL narcolepsy?
Avatar f tn Diagnosed with Narcolepsy. Have history of pituitary microadnoma high prolactin. PCOD historectamy 2002 On dostinex. Can something in my brain cause this. I am now on ritalin 20SR twice a day. Awake but body still tired. Also that thyroid medication had it irradiated a year ago Due to high levels. Is there any other answer for sleeping so much. Or am I just in denial.
Avatar m tn memory problems, insomnia symptoms, chronic pain, and twitchy feelings in muscles are actually very characteristic of narcolepsy with cataplexy, and it can be exacerbated by the hormone shifts that happen with menstrual cycles. In fact, often times, people don't have "Bells Palsy," but cataplexy. Viruses and some vaccines (namely the H1N1) can actually precipitate this, but it can happen seemingly in random fashion, too.
