narcolepsy

Avatar n tn Wow, this sounds EXACTLY like me. I've been dealing with exhaustion for the past 4 years and seen countless doctors. A lot of them try to tell me it's related to my depression, but I've had depression practically since I was in the womb--the fatigue I experience now is nothing like the kind of tiredness associated with depression.
Avatar m tn I had it with just sleepiness during the day and what looked like insomnia at night for probably about 15-20 years before I ended up with more serious symptoms of narcolepsy that actually included cataplexy (random muscle weakness that can either be isolated, or widespread).
Avatar m tn memory problems, insomnia symptoms, chronic pain, and twitchy feelings in muscles are actually very characteristic of narcolepsy with cataplexy, and it can be exacerbated by the hormone shifts that happen with menstrual cycles. In fact, often times, people don't have "Bells Palsy," but cataplexy. Viruses and some vaccines (namely the H1N1) can actually precipitate this, but it can happen seemingly in random fashion, too.
1745492 tn?1320198340 I have symptoms that some people say are consistent with narcolepsy. However, all I have seen are people with severe narcolepsy, and I'm not as bad as them. I do have very vivid dreams that can be stressful to me. I can write whole books on my dreams because they are so vivid. They are so stressful sometimes that I wake up sweating. I can fall asleep quick. As in I can take an short nap, say an hour, and still dream. I do not sleep well at night and have very interrupted sleep.
Avatar m tn Sometimes hypersomnia may be other sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, sleep apnea, and restless leg syndrome. Your symptoms may be linked to depression. You should consult a psychologist for a complete medical and psychological workup. Do keep us posted about your progress. Take care!

Avatar f tn I'm a limbo lander and my new genius neuro just dx'ed me with narcolepsy w/ cataplexy. He did this based on how I described my fatigue. He said I was tired not fatigued. I've since been researching narcolepsy & cataplexy. Most of us complain about being fatigued but we don't go into details. My new neuro thankfully asked for details.

Avatar n tn ve been have what I would consider to be symptoms of depression. I am a newlywed and honestly have nothing to be depressed about, but I don't feel like going out at night or on the weekends. I don't have the motivation to clean the house or do something productive when I get home from work or study for the GMAT again after bombing the first one I took (I'm actually an excellent student). I get upset pretty easy, I can't let things go and I'm hard on myself.

Avatar m tn I struggled for years to find an answer, and was misdiagnosed several times. I had it for probably about 20 years before I ended up with more serious symptoms of narcolepsy that actually included cataplexy (random muscle weakness that can either be isolated, or widespread). It manifested first in my face, as a sort of Bells Palsy, but when I paid closer attention I realized it happened to my other muscles, though it was very hard to notice. Get seen by a sleep center!

Avatar n tn As you have been investigated extensively, your symptoms of excessive sleepiness could be due to either narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia. Narcolepsy is diagnosed by the sleep onset REM episodes (SOREMs), wherein the person goes into the dream phase or REM cycle soon after sleep onset. This is evident in the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT). And idiopathic hypersomnia is diagnosed by exclusion. Treatment is based on the cause. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
