4592241 tn?1359813138 and wants to put me on a narcolepsy medication. I am terrified that I will become addicted to these meds. This will compromise my sobriety, and feel like Im screwed. Is this cheating or what??? Also wondering if my history of drug use and meth use for 10 yrs in my 20's had caused this to happen. I did not tell the doctor about my addiction history because I was afraid he would think I was just being a poser. I need help to fix this sleepiness problem but dont want to jeporadize my sobriety.
Avatar f tn I use to have heavy sleep paralysis issues.. its very difficult to narrow the problem though. My issues have waxed and waned over the years although I am happy to report no more sleep paralysis.. Sleep paralysis is associated with narcolepsy to some degree. I feel it can often be brought about by stress/panic. Try sleeping on your stomach instead, this may resolve your sleep paralysis completely.
12594947 tn?1426138835 For those that chose the path of medication, what sleep meds work best for you? What do and/or don't you like about the ones you tried?
Avatar f tn Is the methamphetamine for recreational use? Because then honestly, the length of time to "abstain" would be forever. I use a medication (prescription) for narcolepsy and they are letting me take it right up to the morning of my upcoming surgery. Surgery involves more than just the anesthesia. There is the pain management afterward and there are issues involved if someone is addicted to something like methamphetamine. It's like smoking.
871962 tn?1244730028 Think about adding medications, treatments and other issues relating to narcolepsy and hypersomnias to your sleep tracker. Insomnia and sleep apnea may be common sleep disorders, but not the only ones.
Avatar m tn lately i have had some kinda numb feeling in my body sometimes all over or just certain areas. i am not on any medication or drugs. it is kinda of a good feeling if i was sitting around doing nothing. and at the same time it should not be happening. i do have narcolepsy and the reason i add this is because i know this in itself has a lot of symptoms ie cataplexy sleep paralysis.
Avatar m tn Heart Palpitations - no medication (all OK from Chest X-ray, ECG and Echocardiogram) Asthma - Advair 250mcg inh od, Bricanyl Turbuhaler (0.5mg inh prn) Narcolepsy without cataplexy (Excessive Daytime Sleepyness) - Modafinil (100-200mg po od) Hiatal Hernia (GI) - 30mg lansoprazole po pd Recent tests: CBC and Chem Panel all within normal ranges.
Avatar f tn He is not able to tolerate the Narcolepsy medication. throat clossed, tongue swale, stomach blew up, stayed in toilet. Can some tell me what to claim and how to show the severity?
Avatar f tn I have had narcolepsy (and sleep apnea) for a long time. I had had three bariatric surgeries over the past 14 years, and my drs have wondered if some of my meds are not being absorbed properly or at the right rate, yet no one has done any kind of 'test' to determine that. I have tried everything possible for my narcolepsy---the ritalin patches, elixir ritalin.......etc, provigil, other meds....and of course xyrem. I take dextroamphetamine daily, even though it does litte...
589816 tn?1332976771 Does he have narcolepsy with cataplexy? Or is it without cataplexy? Xyrem is a drug approved for treating narcolepsy with cataplexy, and it's taken at night in two separate doses. It combats one of the most important symptom of narcolepsy, aside from cataplexy: fragmented night-time sleep. Just to give a bit more background in case I'm catching you off-base.....
Avatar n tn has anyone heard what vaccination is reportedly linked to narcolepsy? i saw a show yesterday about narcolepsy and they mentioned a vaccination was given to a 13 year old girl and 2 hours later she was experiencing cataplexly (a paralyzing catatonic state that is a symptom of narcolepsy) but they did not say which vaccination.
Avatar f tn Although the pt has RLS and PLMS, the arousal associated with these do not likely explain EDS- given a short overall sleep and REM latency, consider narcolepsy clinically. I had 156 arousals, 110 spontaneous, the rest due to limb movement. I also spent most of my sleep time in sleep stages 1 and 2, whith REM episodes scattered randomly. I had no time in stage 3, and when I had REM sleep it was from wake to REM with no progression through the other cycles.
Avatar f tn Do you know of anything that can be done to help a child with TS and possible Narcolepsy? They have taken him off ALL medication, so the Anxiety, OCD, and ADD is worse then ever. We all feel like we are in a holding pattern.
Avatar n tn How many hours of sleep you are putting in now? Have you been prescribed any medication for narcolepsy? Did your sleep study suggest any cause? I do understand how hard it will be to have a disturbed sleep cycle and disturbed routine daily activities. Keep physically active by doing morning-evening brisk walks, regular stretches and gentle massage. Frequent out door activities might ease narcolepsy as you tend to keep yourself active. Take care and share your thoughts.
Avatar f tn 00pm in about two years, my medication runs out around 4:00pm so I can't drive. when I had my first sleep study they said from the time I hit the pillow it took me 3 minutes to hit REM and I stayed there all night, you can imagine what I'm like when my meds run out.....LOL!! they also say that for a regular person to see what it's like to have narcolpesy, they would have to stay awake for three days straight, then try to function....that was a WOW for me..
Avatar f tn Having a diagnosis of narcolepsy can bring some complications such as getting insurance, possible driving restrictions, etc. However, the truth is the truth and I personally would want to know and be treated specifically for it. But you may want to get your business in order first, such as know what the legalities are in your state, and have an insurance plan in place that is not temporary.
Avatar f tn This test is the standard test used rule out Narcolepsy and/or Idiopathic Hypersomnolence, as well as to detect sleep architecture abnormalities associated with narcolepsy. You should continue taking prescribed medications until your doctor gives some other instructions. If you are taking stimulant drugs for narcolepsy such as Provigil, it should be discontinued only under the direction of your physician.
Avatar f tn The second study only consisted of 4 studies because they said it was clear I had narcolepsy and there was no use in doing the last nap. Now, I don't know how people with narcolepsy usually sleep at night, but once I am asleep I am pretty much 'dead.' I don't hear anything, I don't move around much, and I have an extremely hard time getting up in the morning. As my first sleep doctor said,"you are pretty much just knocked out.
Avatar n tn You might want to inquire about having a full sleep study to rule out sleep apnea and/or narcolepsy. The sleep paralysis, hallucinations, and daytime sleepiness are hallmarks of narcolepsy. Narcolepsy isn't just suddenly collapsing in a state of sleep. I tell you this not as a medical professional, but as a person with narcolepsy. Best wishes.
1704625 tn?1310708761 Well, according to what I have been reading from other posts and what you have written about narcolepsy, I should stop denying to myself that I have narcolepsy. I just wish that I could find some kind of magic cure! I have medication that my neurologist prescribed for me, which we had to change 3 different times and than adjust and re-adjust the dosage until we got it right. Right now I take dextroamphetamine in 10 mg doses up to 4 times a day.
Avatar n tn Severe depression can cause someone to be lethargic and stay in bed. Lastly, what about narcolepsy. There is typical and atypical. Both can cause someone to sleep inordinate amounts of time. My sister in law has atypical narcolepsy and she takes medication to keep her up for about 9 hours to go to work and then she is in bed the rest of the time.
Avatar f tn Diagnosed with Narcolepsy. Have history of pituitary microadnoma high prolactin. PCOD historectamy 2002 On dostinex. Can something in my brain cause this. I am now on ritalin 20SR twice a day. Awake but body still tired. Also that thyroid medication had it irradiated a year ago Due to high levels. Is there any other answer for sleeping so much. Or am I just in denial.
Avatar f tn This isn't true. I have Narcolepsy that is controlled by medication. & I am a very skilled Surgical Technologist assisting in surgical procedures & managing a department. I perform my job very well & always receive Outstanding performance reviews. Do not let Narcolepsy control your life. You should be able to do what you want. At times yes I have to go back to my Nurologist & have my medications adjusted but my doctor knows what I do for a living.
Avatar f tn My doctor has not really told me very much about the narcolepsy...will it go away? I take Tysabri infusions once a month and I have told this medication would help heal my brain. It has only gotten worse. How do you deal with this disease?
Avatar f tn i sent you a message I am just getting the hang of this and I have narcolepsy would definitely like to chat
1320739 tn?1274401573 HE NEEDS TO GO TO A SLEEP LAB AND BE TESTED FOR NARCOLEPSY. I HAVE A SERIOUS CASE OF NARCOLEPSY AND HAVE HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS SINCE ABOUT THE AGE OF 16. I AM NOW 53. WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, DR.'S WOULD TELL ME TO GET MORE SLEEP! THERE WERE NO SLEEP LABS AND SPECIALISTS IN SLEEP DISORDERS. I WAS 34 YRS. OLD WHEN I WAS NEARLY KILLED BY A TRAIN BECAUSE I FELL ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL WHILE DRIVING WITH MY 2 YR. OLD SON IN THE CAR.
