Common Questions and Answers about Narcolepsy medication interactions

narcolepsy

Avatar n tn I did have a friend who was on Adderall (same form of stimulant) for narcolepsy...it helped with that, but she lost massive weight and became paranoid. In low doses it may help with energy levels, but it is highly addictive. Here are two links that explain the precautions/warnings and also potential drug interactions. http://adhd.emedtv.com/vyvanse/vyvanse-warnings-and-precautions.html http://adhd.emedtv.com/vyvanse/vyvanse-drug-interactions.
11941637 tn?1422287346 s or Lupus, has also been diagnosed with or shown symptoms of Narcolepsy. I have read recently that Narcolepsy has been determined to be auto-immune in nature, and wonder if the presence of one or both of these disorders in my genetics was the cause of my Narcolepsy. Has there been any research done on the subject?
427801 tn?1203844562 well ive been prescribed nuvigil for my narcolepsy at 150mg every day. it worked for 2 days, but ive been on my own now for like over a month. im also bipolar, so the doc doesnt want to change meds without collaborating with my psychiatrist. however, my psychiatrist is like impossible to get a hold of. he only has an answering service, and you have to leave like 7-10 messages before he finally gets back to you...which is weeks later.
Avatar f tn Sleep paralysis is associated with narcolepsy to some degree. I feel it can often be brought about by stress/panic. Try sleeping on your stomach instead, this may resolve your sleep paralysis completely. Personally, I didn't like the things I saw or felt, so I would wake myself up as fast as possible... God bless.
Avatar n tn There's no known herbal interactions with this drug.
Avatar f tn Beside that grapefruit seems to be a biggy to stay away from when taking an onslot of many different types of medication.
Avatar n tn Usually when you have a new RX they will ask the Pharmacist to talk with you about the medication.
Avatar f tn Well I checked back in with the genius neuro that dx me with narcolepsy & cataplexy. Today was the scheduled EMG of my legs. The EMG of my legs was normal. That is good. That means no obvious muscular or nerve disorder. And I used the time of the EMG testing to go through my long list of questions! The doc was impressed! (I had been scribbling notes on the back of evelopes. Now I have an excel file that I use to track my doctor appts.
4592241 tn?1359813138 and wants to put me on a narcolepsy medication. I am terrified that I will become addicted to these meds. This will compromise my sobriety, and feel like Im screwed. Is this cheating or what??? Also wondering if my history of drug use and meth use for 10 yrs in my 20's had caused this to happen. I did not tell the doctor about my addiction history because I was afraid he would think I was just being a poser. I need help to fix this sleepiness problem but dont want to jeporadize my sobriety.
Avatar f tn He is not able to tolerate the Narcolepsy medication. throat clossed, tongue swale, stomach blew up, stayed in toilet. Can some tell me what to claim and how to show the severity?
Avatar m tn m sorry your having such a hard time. I too have narcolepsy. I disagree with your doc saying that narcolepsy cannot get worse- no one knows that until they have experienced this disabling disorder. How long before going back to work did you restart your meds? I wonder if the combo of provigil and ritalin is causing your hbp. I had a hard time while on provigil- It made my bp rise and made my sleep attacks worse. Did you ever consider acid reflux as the problem behind the mild apnea?
Avatar f tn carol, The other posters are right...with chronic issues like you have, you need to be followed by a doctor. It shouldn't be too difficult to find a new physician. Most health plans have a website that will help you either find a new doc, or make it possible for you to look up ones you may have in mind to see if they participate in your plan. As for the meds, a Pharmacist IS a great rescource. ALWAYS get all of your scripts filled at the same Pharmacy, where the info is in a database...
Avatar f tn i also take hormones and xanax...i read where alot of my meds have interactions...but pharmisits say its ok.............
12594947 tn?1426138835 For those that chose the path of medication, what sleep meds work best for you? What do and/or don't you like about the ones you tried?
708731 tn?1229049180 I would look at the birth control pill in relation to your thyroid medication and disease, and also the consequences of mixing the birth control and the Prozac. You may find that switching birth control will allow for treatment other than Prozac. Just a thought, but I think it has merit. Keeping up on your bloodwork and getting stable at the correct level is the best medicine. If Prozac helps short term, go for it. I'm taking xanax.
Avatar n tn has anyone heard what vaccination is reportedly linked to narcolepsy? i saw a show yesterday about narcolepsy and they mentioned a vaccination was given to a 13 year old girl and 2 hours later she was experiencing cataplexly (a paralyzing catatonic state that is a symptom of narcolepsy) but they did not say which vaccination.
Avatar f tn Although the pt has RLS and PLMS, the arousal associated with these do not likely explain EDS- given a short overall sleep and REM latency, consider narcolepsy clinically. I had 156 arousals, 110 spontaneous, the rest due to limb movement. I also spent most of my sleep time in sleep stages 1 and 2, whith REM episodes scattered randomly. I had no time in stage 3, and when I had REM sleep it was from wake to REM with no progression through the other cycles.
Avatar f tn Do you know of anything that can be done to help a child with TS and possible Narcolepsy? They have taken him off ALL medication, so the Anxiety, OCD, and ADD is worse then ever. We all feel like we are in a holding pattern.
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome to the site. You have come to a great place where we can offer you support and advice based on our own experiences. Finding the right medication can be a long process - unfortunately. I don't think there are many of us who have hit the "jackpot" first try, or second or third ...... I think you get my drift. Please don't be disillusioned by this - I personally didn't get on with Zyprexa either.
Avatar f tn Having a diagnosis of narcolepsy can bring some complications such as getting insurance, possible driving restrictions, etc. However, the truth is the truth and I personally would want to know and be treated specifically for it. But you may want to get your business in order first, such as know what the legalities are in your state, and have an insurance plan in place that is not temporary.
Avatar m tn Hello Jmoczy: Welcome to the pain forum. MedHelp has a forum called "Ask the Pharmacist" If you have further questions about your medication or future questions about any medication, I would contact that forum. You can find it at the top of the page under forums. Click on that and go to the right hand side of the page to find the Pharmacy.
