Narcolepsy medication dose

Common Questions and Answers about Narcolepsy medication dose

narcolepsy

Avatar f tn I understand being monitored and closely followed while taking this medication so that adjustments can be made as necessary. I requested to be on the lowest dose possible (2.25g). But really, at this point, follow-up is just about irrelevant to me right now because if I become physically, mentally imparied, in a coma, or die from taking this, follow-up is going to be useless! I am terrified!
Avatar f tn Sleep paralysis is associated with narcolepsy to some degree. I feel it can often be brought about by stress/panic. Try sleeping on your stomach instead, this may resolve your sleep paralysis completely. Personally, I didn't like the things I saw or felt, so I would wake myself up as fast as possible... God bless.
Avatar f tn I try very hard to deal with the problems of narcolepsy, but it seems like the worse it gets the more depressed I get. I take a large dose of Prozac every day, so I shouldn't be depressed. My doctor has not really told me very much about the narcolepsy...will it go away? I take Tysabri infusions once a month and I have told left due to drop foot then I am disabled. If I have memory problems, or problems with the narcolepsy, then I am treated like I am too stupid to have a job.
4592241 tn?1359813138 and wants to put me on a narcolepsy medication. I am terrified that I will become addicted to these meds. This will compromise my sobriety, and feel like Im screwed. Is this cheating or what??? Also wondering if my history of drug use and meth use for 10 yrs in my 20's had caused this to happen. I did not tell the doctor about my addiction history because I was afraid he would think I was just being a poser. I need help to fix this sleepiness problem but dont want to jeporadize my sobriety.
Avatar f tn You take the first dose right when you get into bed. You take another dose 2 1/2 - 4 hours later. It tells you to set an alarm, but I never have to. It is excreted mainly through your lungs as you breath. It isn't a narcotic. The only problem would be, you really sleep and might not hear storms, alarms, etc. (There is only about an hour of the total 4 that I think is difficult to wake me) PM me if there are other questions.
Avatar f tn He is not able to tolerate the Narcolepsy medication. throat clossed, tongue swale, stomach blew up, stayed in toilet. Can some tell me what to claim and how to show the severity?
Avatar f tn I am looking for alternative approaches for my chronic migraines, usually 2 migraines per week, 1 of which is completely debilitating. I tried a 5mg dose of Ritalin (1x day) for a week and it was a migraine free week (despite high stress and sleep deprivation due to work). I realize a week is not enough to make a judgement call, so I am looking for advice from those that have tried it for this purpose, or the medical community, before I talk to my neurologist.

729135 tn?1247495402 Regarding genetic testing for narcolepsy, positive test results indicate a susceptibility to narcolepsy but do not definatively diagnose narcolepsy. Positive genetic tests results are used to support a clinical diagnosis of narcolepsy. We recommend that you speak with your doctor regarding your symptoms and test results as well as to discuss the most appropriate course of treatment for your specific situation. We wish you the best.
Avatar n tn The combination of this study and my first MSLT nap study produced a perfect pattern for diagnosis of Narcolepsy. Has there ever been a study to look at the coorelation between the 2 diseases. Would many CFS sufferers be classified narcoleptic if they took the appropriate test? Narcolepsy leads back to hippothalmus and lack of production of hypocretin/orexin(?). Seems like all things lead to hippothalmus. Thank you!

Avatar n tn has anyone heard what vaccination is reportedly linked to narcolepsy? i saw a show yesterday about narcolepsy and they mentioned a vaccination was given to a 13 year old girl and 2 hours later she was experiencing cataplexly (a paralyzing catatonic state that is a symptom of narcolepsy) but they did not say which vaccination.
Avatar f tn Although the pt has RLS and PLMS, the arousal associated with these do not likely explain EDS- given a short overall sleep and REM latency, consider narcolepsy clinically. I had 156 arousals, 110 spontaneous, the rest due to limb movement. I also spent most of my sleep time in sleep stages 1 and 2, whith REM episodes scattered randomly. I had no time in stage 3, and when I had REM sleep it was from wake to REM with no progression through the other cycles.
Avatar f tn Do you know of anything that can be done to help a child with TS and possible Narcolepsy? They have taken him off ALL medication, so the Anxiety, OCD, and ADD is worse then ever. We all feel like we are in a holding pattern.
Avatar f tn Having a diagnosis of narcolepsy can bring some complications such as getting insurance, possible driving restrictions, etc. However, the truth is the truth and I personally would want to know and be treated specifically for it. But you may want to get your business in order first, such as know what the legalities are in your state, and have an insurance plan in place that is not temporary.
Avatar f tn This test is the standard test used rule out Narcolepsy and/or Idiopathic Hypersomnolence, as well as to detect sleep architecture abnormalities associated with narcolepsy. You should continue taking prescribed medications until your doctor gives some other instructions. If you are taking stimulant drugs for narcolepsy such as Provigil, it should be discontinued only under the direction of your physician.
871962 tn?1244730028 Think about adding medications, treatments and other issues relating to narcolepsy and hypersomnias to your sleep tracker. Insomnia and sleep apnea may be common sleep disorders, but not the only ones.
Avatar f tn did do it the right way and gradually increased the dose tho. The first dose she gave me was 100mgs., it did the same, so she reduced it to the lowest of 50mgs., I did fine, later she increased it to 100, at that time I was able to tolerate it then. You'd think by doing it that I should now be able to tolerate 200. Also my Dr. was giving me B12 inj. once a wk. which really helped w/ my chronic fatigue. Acc. to my blood test I did have a B12 deficiency. But now she has decre.
Avatar m tn lately i have had some kinda numb feeling in my body sometimes all over or just certain areas. i am not on any medication or drugs. it is kinda of a good feeling if i was sitting around doing nothing. and at the same time it should not be happening. i do have narcolepsy and the reason i add this is because i know this in itself has a lot of symptoms ie cataplexy sleep paralysis.
1704625 tn?1310708761 Well, according to what I have been reading from other posts and what you have written about narcolepsy, I should stop denying to myself that I have narcolepsy. I just wish that I could find some kind of magic cure! I have medication that my neurologist prescribed for me, which we had to change 3 different times and than adjust and re-adjust the dosage until we got it right. Right now I take dextroamphetamine in 10 mg doses up to 4 times a day.
Avatar n tn Severe depression can cause someone to be lethargic and stay in bed. Lastly, what about narcolepsy. There is typical and atypical. Both can cause someone to sleep inordinate amounts of time. My sister in law has atypical narcolepsy and she takes medication to keep her up for about 9 hours to go to work and then she is in bed the rest of the time.
Avatar f tn Diagnosed with Narcolepsy. Have history of pituitary microadnoma high prolactin. PCOD historectamy 2002 On dostinex. Can something in my brain cause this. I am now on ritalin 20SR twice a day. Awake but body still tired. Also that thyroid medication had it irradiated a year ago Due to high levels. Is there any other answer for sleeping so much. Or am I just in denial.
Avatar f tn This isn't true. I have Narcolepsy that is controlled by medication. & I am a very skilled Surgical Technologist assisting in surgical procedures & managing a department. I perform my job very well & always receive Outstanding performance reviews. Do not let Narcolepsy control your life. You should be able to do what you want. At times yes I have to go back to my Nurologist & have my medications adjusted but my doctor knows what I do for a living.
Avatar f tn i sent you a message I am just getting the hang of this and I have narcolepsy would definitely like to chat
