535822 tn?1443976780 A new review published in the journal Public Library of Science ONE confirms that Pandemrix, a swine flu vaccine produced by drug giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is responsible for causing an up to 1700 percent increase in narcolepsy among children and teenagers under 17 years of age. Based on their findings, a cohort of scientists has determined that narcolepsy rates increased significantly following mass vaccination campaigns with Pandemrix.
Avatar f tn Although the pt has RLS and PLMS, the arousal associated with these do not likely explain EDS- given a short overall sleep and REM latency, consider narcolepsy clinically. I had 156 arousals, 110 spontaneous, the rest due to limb movement. I also spent most of my sleep time in sleep stages 1 and 2, whith REM episodes scattered randomly. I had no time in stage 3, and when I had REM sleep it was from wake to REM with no progression through the other cycles.
Avatar n tn I have walked in my sleep from time to time since I was a child but it seems to have suddenly multiplied in the last few years. I am now 56 and have had some very life changing events in my life during these last 3-4 years. I am wondering if these traumatic events could have caused the sleep walking to increase. I stay exhausted. I don't have a problem falling asleep but I have a serious problem staying asleep more than an hour at a time. I can fall asleep any place any time of any day.
Avatar f tn Over the last year I have had a serious problem waking up in the morning. I can sit the alarm clock beside me and have even tried sitting it across the room so I would have to get up out of bed to shut it off. The problem is I don't hear it. The alarm goes off for hours before I even hear it. I have even tried going to bed at the same time every night and still nothing has changed. People have tried to yell at me and shake me awake and I still don't wake up.
Avatar n tn I have recently been diagnosed with narcolepsy. For years, I have suffered from EDS muscle weakness that has become worse as I have aged (mid-40's). In the beginning, I blamed it all on being single and burning the candle at both ends (20's); then being a new parent (30's) and then being a single mom to a child with narcolepsy and a preteen (now 40's). I was told I have mild cataplexy.
11941637 tn?1422287346 I began developing symptoms of narcolepsy in high school, however, due to a lack of understanding at the time, it was not diagnosed until I was 23. My grandfather on maternal side had Parkinson's as long as I can remember, and I recently learned of a history of Lupus on paternal side; including grandmother, two aunts and my father himself. As a child, I always remember my grandfather, with his tremors, being prone to falling asleep any time he sat down.
Avatar m tn I would describe the pain as deep (feels like it is in the bone), sharp/stabbing (Severity a 7-9 on a scale of 10 - where 10 is excruciating pain) and short in duration (lasts 3-10 seconds). It occurs frequently throughout my day and randomly in different places on my body (i.e. ribs, shoulder, upper and lower arms, fingers, upper and lower legs and sometimes my head). I'm also always fatigued, sleepy and low energy, but I keep myself moving and motivated.
Avatar f tn I read somewhere that PCOS can cause major fatigue in women. When I was in highschool I was diagnosed with PCOS and Narcolepsy. I recently found my sleep studies and found that the doctor said my sleeping was characteristic of Narcolepsy but he didn't think I had it. I wonder now[ if it is the PCOS as noticed a big difference in energy levels after I stopped taking birth control. Is anyone else out there suffering from debilitating lack of energy.
Avatar f tn Do you know if it is fairly common to have both conditions of epilepsy and narcolepsy for an individual? It seems to go hand in hand on these postings. We have changed is meds several times since August and his levels are showing to be fine, at this point. The 24 EEG should be a good test to help clarify his condition. I would also like to get a sleep study done, as you mentioned. I hope we can get this under control before the nice weather gets here.

Avatar f tn symptoms disappeared with some quality sleep over time. A diagnosis of narcolepsy can radically affect your life in regards to driving license rights and insurability. I wouldn't accept that label until there's nothing else to do to help your symptoms. Then after that, it is what it is.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CFIDS in 1994. Narcolepsy in 2005. I get basically no stage 4 or Rem sleep at night. Its no wonder why our mind and muscles can't heal themselves. I can go into almost instant dreaming during day (MSLT naps). I haven't been able to get anyone to help me figure out how to correct my sleep cycle. If you get any ideas, let me know. (I am on meds to help sleep and keep me awake at the right times, but it hasn't helped the sleep cycles.
1287446 tn?1313947638 Hi everyone. I am not familiar with Narcolepsy or sleep disorders in general but my sleep has always been different. Typically, I fight daytime sleepiness with caffeine. In prior years, the caffeine has been a lot but I’ve lowered it significantly.
1704625 tn?1310708761 Which sent me into the second sleep study, all night and all day study, which came back extremely high for narcolepsy. It seems that I can fall asleep in less than 7 minutes, I begin dreaming quickly and much more frequent than normal in extended intervals. I believe that I have been asleep when I was really awake and awake when I was really asleep. However, unlike, the 15 minute naps being completley refreshing, they are not always.
Avatar f tn I am diagnosis with narcolepsy and have had symptoms for 5 years now. I have been taking 500 mg. of nuvigil for over 2 years. Plus, 60 mg of adderall a day. My symptoms have slowed down a little, but I have to take 2 naps a day and not drive anywhere. I have sleep studies twice a year and it seems to get worse each time. Its very aggravating to me! It seems like something would help. I see a team of specialists at Vanderbilt, but I need something else, but what? Anyone have any suggestions?
2018891 tn?1329003897 Hi everyone I was diagnosed in 2010 with Narcolepsy & Cataplexy. One thing that I've been wondering, does anyone here get a severe headache after a cataplexic episode/sleep attack? I was in the hospital for a week in october because I kept "passing out" although that's not what I called it. I would feel strange, fall over, and be completely limp for 30ish seconds. Then I would get up and sometimes have trouble walking and a few hours later I would get a MASSIVE headache.
Avatar f tn Diagnosis is relatively easy when all the symptoms of narcolepsy are present. Two tests that are commonly used in diagnosing narcolepsy are the polysomnogram and the multiple sleep latency test which are usually performed by a sleep specialist. The drowsiness is normally treated using amphetamine-like stimulants.
Avatar f tn Take a look at this forum. You might have the same symptoms as many of these people and there are a couple suggestions. I found it interesting to know others had the same sensations and all around the same age. I was 17 or 18 when mine started. Still not sure what it is but have much better idea about possibilities I never even considered which is great since it's gotten much worse in short time.
Avatar f tn I have Narcolepsy- My vitamin B 12 level is 235- should it be higher for my condition?
Avatar m tn Your history is suggestive of narcolepsy. In this condition there will be excessive daytime sleepiness. But in your case it seems milder form of it. In this condition there will be “automatic behavior" such as driving past a highway exit or go into sleep or writing off a page, with no memory of the previous few minutes. Classical narcolepsy constitutes of Hypnagogic hallucinations, Sleep paralysis and Cataplexy which is not seen in your case.
Avatar n tn I am a 24 year old healthy female. About three months ago I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy. After explaining to my doctor that I am always sleepy, never feel rested, little energy or motivation, lack of concentration and irritability I did a day sleep study. I took four 25 minute naps an hour and a half apart. On the average I fell asleep within 4 minutes and reach REM sleep on three of the four naps. Since then I've been taking 200mg of Provigil/day, but not feeling better.
807506 tn?1248649733 I m concerned that its affected me. Ive read that prednisone has eliviated eds in narcolepsy, and I tke codeint to stay awake. Im thinking certain levels may have been affected. My Dr. said these things cannot be tested. I know how to spell all of the words in this but I cant remember some of them. I want to know where I can get more info about this.
Avatar f tn I wouldnt leave your child with him if he drives her around in the car ..tell him to get checked out ...
Avatar m tn Yes, narcolepsy can result in disturbed nighttime sleep. Narcolepsy can only be diagnosed with a multiple sleep latency test during the day (usually preceded by an all night sleep study). Dr.
