Stress can cause the falling out.. narcolepsy.. and she's already had the brain surgery a few years ago w no relief.. looking at another surgery.. we'll know for sure the 31st.. she is a fighter like all of you.. but the chronic pain is at it's peak.. it never goes away are their any non habit forming drugs that can help w that... and when she is not having narcolepsy... she can't sleep at all... any suggestions?? Just want to help my baby sister...
Hi, welcome to the forum, the modalities to improve narcolepsy symptoms are not much but available drugs can help your symptoms. If you are on high dose of modafinil then next you can be put on other drugs which can be helpful in this condition.
Having regular nap for about 20 min during day will help to prevent sleep attacks.

Classical narcolepsy constitutes of Hypnagogic hallucinations, Sleep paralysis and Cataplexy (emotionally triggered muscle paralysis resulting in partial or complete collapse).

Causes of excessive sleepiness are sleep-wake cycle disorder like in night shifts, sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing disorders, psychiatric disorders like depression and schizophrenia,diabetes,obesity,restless leg syndrome,use of drugs or alcohol and narcolepsy(Abnormal sleep disorder leading to excessive daytime drowsiness).
You should consult a sleep specialist and get all these causes ruled out.

You should continue taking prescribed medications until your doctor gives some other instructions. If you are taking stimulant drugs for narcolepsy such as Provigil, it should be discontinued only under the direction of your physician. Generally the doctors ask the patients to discontinue taking the medication approximately five to seven days before the MSLT.
i am not on any medication or drugs. it is kinda of a good feeling if i was sitting around doing nothing. and at the same time it should not be happening. i do have narcolepsy and the reason i add this is because i know this in itself has a lot of symptoms ie cataplexy sleep paralysis.
Having a diagnosis of narcolepsy can bring some complications such as getting insurance, possible driving restrictions, etc. However, the truth is the truth and I personally would want to know and be treated specifically for it. But you may want to get your business in order first, such as know what the legalities are in your state, and have an insurance plan in place that is not temporary.
m also always fatigued, sleepy and low energy, but I keep myself moving and motivated. I have been seeing a sleep specialist who diagnosed me with Narcolepsy (Polysomnograph and MSLT both suggestive of narcolepsy i.e. 4 SOREMs with mean latency of <8 minutes)

24 years old white male, fair skinned with dark blonde hair, 6''0", 195lbs, in shape and athletic (work out and jog 5-6 days of the week). University educated and work in government policy, 9:00-5:00.
I was diagnosed with narcolepsy approx. 5 yrs. ago. I haven't gone for another sleep study since,
nor has my doctor seem to ever remember that I have narcolepsy. I am his only patient with narcolepsy,
and if I ever end up in his office, it seems like he always forgets that I have narcolepsy. I don't
believe he has a good understanding of this. Any suggestions. I am in the process of trying to switch
my doctor, but in the meanwhile, I have been more tired lately than usual.
ve already been diagnosed with Thyroid Hoshimotos, and on top of that Narcolepsy, the most commonly associated symptom of Narcolepsy is excessive daytime sleepiness, which probably why you been dx with Chronic Fatigue as well, the constant level of fatigue could genuinely account for the cognitive issues you've been experiencing.

Classical narcolepsy constitutes of Hypnagogic hallucinations, Sleep paralysis and Cataplexy which is not seen in your case.
If this has been ruled out, the excessive daytime sleepiness could be due to other disorders like narcolepsy. Adderall is used to treat narcolepsy. It could also be due to idiopathic hypersomnia. Please check with your doctor to rule out these conditions.

I have narcolepsy with cataplexy. Cataplexy is rare in the absence of narcolepsy, but I believe it is possible. You may want to get a referral to a sleep neurologist to rule out narcolepsy w/ cataplexy, even if you're not sure you have symptoms of it, especially if these attacks are bothersome to you.
The other thing you could be experiencing is presyncope, which can be accompanied by a loss of muscle tone as well as the sensation of almost passing out.
Hey ,1 month back i got disease "Bells Palsy" on right side of my face.I went to doctor they give me antiviral drugs,they didn't tell me any specific reason why it happens(may be due to cold exposure)this reason seems to be possible for me .
they asked me whether i am diabetic or not,They took my MRI brain scan test,but they didn't found anything.
Now it is completely gone within 2 weeks.
Narcolepsy is a CNS disorder and is thought to also be caused by an autoimmune disorder.
Causes: current thinking is that a group of cells in the brain responsible for sleep-wake behavior is damaged or absent. (gosh do you think the MS lesions might also damage this area for people unlucky to have both!)
Tests: The spinal fluid of most patients with narcolepsy shows the neuroprotein lacking or deficient. The neuroprotein is "hypocretin".
I wasn't sure where to ask this question so if it's in the wrong forum I apologize, but I have a question reguarding adderall. I don't have add or adhd, and i understand the problems doctors have had with adderall abuse. Despite this fact, I have used another person's perscribed adderall a few times. What im wondering is if adderall is only used to treat adhd and narcolepsy. I have always had low self confidence, so low that I would barely talk to anyone.
