Common Questions and Answers about Narcolepsy drugs fatigue

narcolepsy

Avatar f tn I read somewhere that PCOS can cause major fatigue in women. When I was in highschool I was diagnosed with PCOS and Narcolepsy. I recently found my sleep studies and found that the doctor said my sleeping was characteristic of Narcolepsy but he didn't think I had it. I wonder now[ if it is the PCOS as noticed a big difference in energy levels after I stopped taking birth control. Is anyone else out there suffering from debilitating lack of energy.
959034 tn?1253671476 As AireScottie mentioned, many patients take stimulant drugs normally used to treat ADHD, or Narcolepsy to treat the fatigue associated with Dysautonomia. Stimulants such as Ritalin have the added benefit of being used as a vasoconstrictor thus raising blood pressure. You mentioned feeling better after saline IV's. Do you have a PICC, or PORT for home IV fluids? Are you currently taking Florinef?
Avatar f tn Modafinil is a drug for narcolepsy prescribed for MS fatigue. I am interested in knowing if you have narcolepsy or MS fatigue. Recently I have been experiencing extreme fatigue for which my neuro prescribed amantadine. It is working. The next step would be modafinil but I was told that many of their patients use Ritalin or adderall. Both are addictive so they start with the ones with least side effects first. So far amantadine has been helping get me through my day without crashing.

Avatar f tn I'm a limbo lander and my new genius neuro just dx'ed me with narcolepsy w/ cataplexy. He did this based on how I described my fatigue. He said I was tired not fatigued. I've since been researching narcolepsy & cataplexy. Most of us complain about being fatigued but we don't go into details. My new neuro thankfully asked for details.
Avatar n tn s Thyroiditis together with Neurally Mediated Orthostatic Hypotension and finally Narcolepsy. 100mg Oroxine, and Modafinil. I am happy to lie down and sleep and would have relief in never waking up. Any suggestions would be great.
Avatar f tn //www.sleepfoundation.org/narcolepsy/what-narcolepsy/are-there-different-types-narcolepsy She has a hard time staying awake during the day without medication. This is called type 2 narcolepsy as well. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/narcolepsy/symptoms-causes/syc-20375497 My sister in law as I said takes medication that allows her to be functional during the day and go to work and drive and all of that important stuff.
Avatar f tn I've had horrible fatigue for over two years now. I've had the million dollar workup- so far it's not shown anything conclusive. A few months ago, my Doctor started me on provigil, because I finally told him I was afraid my constant need for sleep would cause an accident at work. At that point, I had stopped driving. I HATE not driving!!! I finally had a sleep study D/T RLS, which I've had my whole life with no real problems.
Avatar f tn How can you stop fatigue. I am 7 weeks pregnant, 17 years old, and at the moment too ill to attend college. Any helpto relieve this?
Avatar f tn (I thought everyone did!) The way I described my fatigue is why the neuro says narcolepsy and not MS for the fatigue issue. I wake up refreshed and within 2 hours can fall right back to sleep. When I lie down for a nap I can sleep for 2-4 hours and still sleep normally at night. (Endocrinologist says my thyroid levels are normal and are not causing the fatigue.
Avatar f tn In the past 3 years I have had several surgeries and thought my increased fatigue was just my body trying to recover. Last surgery was 06/2009. This was my breast reconstruction with silicone implants. After that surgery my fatigue severely increased to the point I could not stay awake at work, in the car, In Sept. I finally was sent for sleep study and DX with severe sleep apnea and PLM. Cpap has helped this alot.
Avatar f tn Diagnosed with Narcolepsy. Have history of pituitary microadnoma high prolactin. PCOD historectamy 2002 On dostinex. Can something in my brain cause this. I am now on ritalin 20SR twice a day. Awake but body still tired. Also that thyroid medication had it irradiated a year ago Due to high levels. Is there any other answer for sleeping so much. Or am I just in denial.
Avatar f tn I have narcolepsy I was diagnosed about a year ago at a sleep clinic. My symptoms were all of a sudden I would get swetty my whole body would go numb and tingle. then I would (what I call ) pas out for about 10 minuntes. I have RLS which would maybe explain the leg jerkings but no chills and yes I have day time fatigue. The sleep dr put me on dexedrine which helps the fatigue but i still get the passing out.
789572 tn?1334424879 Provigil did it for me. 200 mg daily or when I need it (I don't need it everyday.) Hep C + for over 30 years, last biopsy 2003, under care of hepatologist, tried tx in 2004, waiting until VX-950 is available. Labs are stable.
Avatar f tn I am not diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, however I don't know what is wrong with me. I am tired ALL THE TIME. I am 20 years old I sleep for 8 hours a day waking every couple of hours or so. When I wake up I feel awake for about three hours and then I feel extremely tired again and usually end up falling asleep when I sit down for an hour or so. Then I wake up after three hours or so stay up for another hour and then go right back to sleep.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with Fibro (6months ago) , Lupus (16yrs ago), and ongoing testing for Nacrolepsy..Can someone tell me if they all fit together somehow? The lupus was not treated for many years, when I had flares (or what I thought were flares) I would take time off, get lots of rest and go see my primary doc who would prescribe the all curing Prednisone.
Avatar n tn When I was 10 it was thought that I might have narcolepsy. Although no doctor could ever diagnose this, I suffered for many years and eventually outgrew it. I am now 37 and realize my sleep issues are still affecting my life and are rapidly getting worse. I am not depressed. I do have stress and anxiety in my life, although most of us do. But no matter how much or how little sleep I get, I am never rested. I can take a hour nap at work around lunchtime and by 3pm be falling asleep again.
Avatar f tn You should continue taking prescribed medications until your doctor gives some other instructions. If you are taking stimulant drugs for narcolepsy such as Provigil, it should be discontinued only under the direction of your physician. Generally the doctors ask the patients to discontinue taking the medication approximately five to seven days before the MSLT.

Avatar f tn Yea I guess I don't have narcolepsy but I really feel tired and just wanna sleep. It's like fatigue but emotionally exhausted too.
Avatar m tn i am not on any medication or drugs. it is kinda of a good feeling if i was sitting around doing nothing. and at the same time it should not be happening. i do have narcolepsy and the reason i add this is because i know this in itself has a lot of symptoms ie cataplexy sleep paralysis.
Avatar f tn I have had narcolepsy (and sleep apnea) for a long time. I had had three bariatric surgeries over the past 14 years, and my drs have wondered if some of my meds are not being absorbed properly or at the right rate, yet no one has done any kind of 'test' to determine that. I have tried everything possible for my narcolepsy---the ritalin patches, elixir ritalin.......etc, provigil, other meds....and of course xyrem. I take dextroamphetamine daily, even though it does litte...
